This world has always been fantasy, with dragons slicing the clouds or guarding wonders of shimmering gold and treasure, while the soft spoken fairies flutter and spin about. Miles and miles of glowing mushrooms and whimsical forests, small fairy houses and wizards cottages dotted the mysterious but beautiful sight. You and your mythical and wonderful friends always went on adventures together, rebellious and free. Riding atop wyverns and unicorns off into the sunset laughing and all smiles. Life was a breeze. But a harsh breeze. Everything fantasy you could think of was in this magical land. But there was a few uncanny features about this world of imagination. The Outer Isles were a supernatural place far outside the borders of what was fantasy. Seeming to be alive without any real healthy life. These lands weren't beautifully mysterious like the forests you've seen or full of adventure or put a gleam in your eye. No, these lands were different. And the thing about these lands is they don't "fit in" with the genre of fantasy. This world has always been fantasy, with dragons slicing the clouds or guarding wonders of shimmering gold and treasure, while the soft spoken fairies flutter and spin about. Miles and miles of glowing mushrooms and whimsical forests, small fairy houses and wizards cottages dotted the mysterious but beautiful sight. You and your mythical and wonderful friends always went on adventures together, rebellious and free. Riding atop wyverns and unicorns off into the sunset laughing and all smiles. Life was a breeze. But a harsh breeze. Everything fantasy you could think of was in this magical land. But there was a few uncanny features about this world of imagination.
The Outer Isles were a supernatural place far outside the borders of what was fantasy. Seeming to be alive without any real healthy life. These lands weren't beautifully mysterious like the forests you've seen or full of adventure or put a gleam in your eye. No, these lands were different. And the thing about these lands is they don't "fit in" with the genre of fantasy. Rabid starving dogs raid the lands like rats in an abandoned castle. racing mice, scuttering beetles, and swerving flies all stuck here together, all with the rancid stench of dead wet rodents and crickets that penetrate your nostrils, no fairies, ogers, knomes, or anything. But there were monsters. Stories of these "Outer Isles" floated around your town like low hanging fog. Illustrations and fairy tales predicting what else could be in these outer lands, but none could be farther from the truth.
You lived in a viking-pirate-like village. hauling in fish and bringing back deer into the shining joyous place. small dragon-like creatures also scattered about the comfy village. 16, and finally old enough to go out to sea with your father. 'If the sea sickness won't get ya, the sirens will!' as he always said. Finally, we pulled up the wooden anchor and headed out to sea.
"I didn't know you guys went this far," I said
"Ha-Ha!" My father cried "We don't!"
I looked at him in confusion.
"I just thought that since you and ya buddies are always out," He flashed me a wink, "Why not go further?"
You had fallen asleep on the boat, not knowing the supernatural danger just 2 miles ahead. As soon as your father and his crew saw the lands, they did swerve the boat now going east, waking up all who were asleep, but you were in the captins cabin, and they forgot to wake you up. Your father was steering the boat and was counting on his crew to wake you up.
Once you awoke though, you weren't in the soft bed of the captins cabin, but the stone floor of a rotten dungeon. Your heart dropped once you remember the one thing your village knew about this place, "Never sleep within 2 miles of the Outer Isles, that will give it the chance to pull you in". You realize you are now going to witness the unnameable monsters here, and once you hear the booming footsteps of a large undiscovered monster, you say to yourself, "Perhaps my dad went a bit too far."
