Kensington Philadelphia Drug & Crime Problems
Violent crime and drug abuse in Philadelphia as a whole is a major problem. The city’s violent crime rate is higher than the national average and other similarly sized metropolitan areas.1 Also alarming is Philadelphia’s drug overdose rate. The number of drug overdose deaths in the city increased by 50% from 2013 to 2015, with more than twice as many deaths from drug overdoses as deaths from homicides in 2015.2 A big part of Philadelphia’s problems stem from the crime rate and drug abuse in Kensington.
Because of the high number of drugs in Kensington, the neighborhood has a drug crime rate of 3.57, the third-highest rate by neighborhood in Philadelphia.3 Like a lot of the country, a big part of this issue is a result of the opioid epidemic. Opioid abuse has skyrocketed over the last two decades in the United States and Philadelphia is no exception. Along with having a high rate of drug overdose deaths, 80% percent of Philadelphia’s overdose deaths involved opioids2 and Kensington is a big contributor to this number. This Philly neighborhood is purportedly the largest open-air narcotics market for heroin on the East Coast with many neighboring residents flocking to the area for heroin and other opioids.4 With such a high number of drugs in Kensington, many state and local officials have zoned in on this area to try and tackle Philadelphia’s problem.
I watch this and my heart breaks. This is someone’s daughter, son, uncle, sister, mother, dad, cousin. This is awful.
You do understand that I am certain their mother, son,aunt, sister, brother have spent countless attempts to help them. I'm sure these families have been lied to, stolen from and worse many many times over. These addicts have put their families thru absolute hell. Trust me I know. Its time to quit sorry for these addicts and hold them accountable. They ended up in Kensington "because of the cheap heroin" as one addict stated on another channel. Its a choice.

I‘m from Germany and was recently in San Francisco and saw such situations similar in Tenderloin. AbsoluteIy shocking! I wish the United States all the strength it has to overcome this epidemic. poor people. Young people. Sad.
This problem is growing in many countries, sadly. In Frankfurt we now have streets where it looks similar to this. I was shocked.
Some say, this is not a problem in China and other Asian countries but this is also untrue. In China and Korea you also have streets that look like this.
People are desperate and drug abuse spreads because it's like an infection... Parents and neighbours use drugs, you grow up like this and your chance of becoming an addict rises...
I wish we could find a solution. So many issues at play here.

I am so happy you are free from this. My eyes are filling up as I write this. My brother was an addict. Fortunately, he didn't wind up here because I was able to take him in. God performed a miracle and healed him of all of his addictions. He didn't even go through withdrawal. It was a true miracle because he was taking T, LSD, lots of alcohol and cocaine.

Pennsylvania Governor Wolf toured this Kensington, Phila area Thursday (16 September 2021) to see for himself the opioid epidemic impact. Afterwards, the Governor, a Phila Senator, DA, and other officials met with concerned citizens, rehab/recovery agencies, and others to discuss solutions. Many ideas and promises were put forth.... I suspect videos such as these have prompted many to bring this area's problems to the attention of the Governor, which caused his concern and visit... If so, these videos are helping.... Thank you!

Who can afford rehab?.. the cheapest is 30;000.00$ a month! Most expensive 400,000.00 a month!

This is a typical political stunt. The governor did not just find out about Kensington. Also he did not have to 'tour' the site to 'see for himself'.
In Pa., we have a program that will pay for rehab if you can't afford it. I believe its called " voucher program" . Also free Healthcare to those who can't afford it. But these rehabs only work if someone wants help.

The governor and mayor def needs to do something about this. They should mandate rehab or get them instutionalized in a hospital or sober living group home. If alzheimers patients and people with mental disabilities can get 24 care in a facility, why cant they. They are clearly sick. No human should live like this. This is a prison camp that will go on and on. In my state a fund for millions of dollars allotted for the homeless crisis was returned back to the state because the problem is now so huge city officials are at a loss of where to begin. The attempt made did little. What is bothersome for me is instead of falling apart with emotion as I have, it's becoming invisible. For this i worry.

I ran the streets of Kensington for many years in my addiction and never saw it like this. When did the police throw in the towel and stop arresting people? The park is called Needle Park for obvious reasons but you couldn't sit there for very long before a cop would come around and make you move. And laying around on the avenue itself absolutely would never have happened. Those people are not high from heroin, that much is obvious. It is definitely something cheaper that they are throwing in a bag and calling heroin. I watch these videos to remind myself of what my life would be right now if I hadn't gotten clean. I left Kensington in late 2007 and have been clean ever since but I know that there aren't many people like me who made it out after a 20 year addiction. Watching this makes me even more aware of that. I pray that some of these folks can get out someday but this is even beyond my nightmares. Sadly these videos are probably watched by parents who are trying to find their children. I don't wish this nightmare on my worst enemy.

The courts won’t take the child because that woman isn’t an addict she is just poor and lives in that area the corner store is literally what they are standing in front of with the bus stop two feet away . Наркоманы в России есть, но их мало, их постоянно преследует полиция, если ловят с наркотиком, то такие наркоманы попадают в тюрьмы за распространение.
