This video will make me also think about the Effortless Mastery book, by Kenny Werner (another great player!)
Sure mind is important, but also a great time spent at practicing, listen, playing is very important.
Maybe Kenny wants to say that you must do all that work with a relaxed mind (and that's obvious, although today's life is sooo stressful). Anyway, i love both, Richie and Kenny!!
Sorry for my bad english, I'm italian

Buongiorno brother. Regarding 'Effortless Mastery' etc : I don't know if you've read it, but Miyamoto Musashi's "Book Of Five Rings" is the original and the best regarding the process of fusing mind and body (& spirit) in personal development of an art form. Although a manual for martial art, written by a deadly seasoned warrior, it crosses all boundaries, and Musashi makes several references to music and the playing of it to make his points.
By the way, I believe you're right to say "Sure mind is important, but also a great time spent at practicing, listen, playing is very important", because it is actually that time spent practicing, listening, and just playing which will establish and fortify 'mind'. If the practice is correct and well intended, the mind should grow in awareness, clarity, and wisdom because of that (which is what Richie is basically saying at 43:00, and why he disapproves of Werner's book).
Arrivederci, and all the best from Australia.

    Great Richie Beirach.
I've done a transcription of his piano solo version of Autumn leaves for my piano exam.
Was he a student of Lennie Tristano? Maybe i am wrong..
