Scentless Apprentice is about a book Kurt read. “Perfume: The Story of a Murderer” by Patrick Süskind. If you read the book, everything will make sense. Also, the main riff was composed by Dave Grohl, a rare occasion when Kurt allowed a song by Dave.
I read that book, but I already knew the song Scentless Apprentice. One day after I had read Perfume i was listening to that song and made that connection. Another connection i made in a similar way is that Pink Floyd's album Animals was based on Orwells book Animal Farm.
i'm left handed so when i wanted to buy my first guitar, i went to a shop that specializes in lefty gear saying that i wasnt sure but i expected to be a left handed guitar player. the guy asked me to do the motion of air guitar, saw me do it, and told me "get the hell out of my store, you're right handed"
I've always wanted to see the look on a right handed guitarist's face if they were to walk into their local guitar shop, and every last guitar in the store was left handed. And to make matters worse, the part time salesman/comedian says "Sorry, were out of right handed amps too! 😂 As George Thorogood said "Everybody funny, now you funny too".
Finally! I've played on and off for almost 30 years (poorly) but have learned more from your videos in the past 3 weeks than in my first 5 years of playing. Lefty guitars were almost nonexistent when I first started playing and most teachers didn't know how to deal with a lefty (other than trying to convert them to righty). Your videos have been extremely helpful and gave me the impetus to buy a lefty PRS.
The Scentless Apprentice riff was actually written by Dave Grohl. An especially fun fact imo because it sounds more like a Foo Fighters riff than any other Nirvana song but of course with Cobains vocals. Definitely one of my favorite Nirvana songs.
Ambidextrous here and started lefty as a kid (strumming seemed more natural lefty on dads old acoustic strung upside down) learned both ways for about a year and when we went instrument shopping I quickly switched to strictly right handed instruments because I like having more than three choices.
Being a left handed guitarist...it takes a lot...especially when the rock/metal culture is real underground one in your locality/country. From the pain of 'not able to play any guitar and start playing' to not able to find a single guitar in small/big centres. The struggle is real. Thats why many lefties start playing guitar right handedly. But I chose the natural way and still facing the struggle. But going strong and on.
@@rowenlampe7426 Well in India they are...since in the northern part the rock/metal scene is pretty much restricted to few cities. Although I have heard of few other people from different countries facing the same situations but it maybe on a different parameter.

Tony Iommi is my favorite lefty player. I’ve seen him play live twice. The first time I saw Sabbath, Ozzy lost his voice, so Tony started shredding over all the classic Black Sabbath riffs! Other people in the crowd were disappointed with the show, but I thought it was amazing. How often do you get to hear one of your favorite guitar players get turned loose?

I met a lefty mechanic who could play a right-handed guitar without restringing the guitar, basically upside-down, as described towards the end of this video, and I was always amazed that he could play a guitar lefty, whether it was stringed correctly or upside-down. He was VERY talented. He was a heroin addict (surprise, surprise) and not a particularly good person or friend or father (his son was a good friend of mine, a righty guitarist who was also very talented), but when he picked up a guitar, literally ANY guitar (lefty, righty, upside down, regular, you name it), he could play it, and play it VERY well. I don’t know how people learn to play a guitar normally, then say: “hey, these strings are completely backwards, but I have the skill, talent, and practice to play either way. It doesn’t really matter whether the low E is on top or on bottom, I’ll play just as well either way.” For me, I’d have to spend MONTHS and possibly YEARS practicing both to become proficient enough not to suck at playing upside-down stringing. I guess some people have enough talent to do both. He mainly played on a guitar that was stringed normally, but he could do the upside-down stringing exactly the same and as well as regular. Again, I don’t know how this is possible, I don’t think he practiced or played as much with the upside-down stringing, but it sounded just as good when he was around a bunch of right-handed guitarists (90% of the world), and that was all that was available without spending an hour or so restringing the damn thing.
This video was doubly weird initially because I had the speed at .75x when I clicked and when I switched back to normal speed I was very confused as to why I was having a stroke

Also, the song is in a half step down tuning, but the d sharp is a C sharp. With the main riff you just bar the 4th fret and open frets instead of the 2nd fret power chord to the 5th fret. (thank you for the sweet nirvana mention)
I play upside down I like the way you can flick/upstroke the thick E string with the the flat nail of your thumb and it makes geographical sense because the lower strings are physically lower on the guitar I'm happy to know that there are successful guitarists that play like I do. Thank you Tyler.
I write lefty, play guitar righty, play ping pong lefty, tennis righty, hockey righty, throw righty, ambidextrous with a hammer, skate goofy/can ride switch. What the hell am I?
Caius Cosades I am a lefty that plays righty... I contend that it makes more sense to do this because as a lefty, my left hand is better at fine motor movements like the ones needed to fret notes.
In scentless apprentice He was singing about a character from a book called perfume. His name was "jean-baptiste" he had no body odour but had a heightened sense of smell. He worked for a perfume shop. And was asked to make his own perfume, he killed a virgin girl and took her scent and created perfume from it. He was incredibly rejected and Kurt felt he could relate to him.
I am righty but i play guitar left handed because I find it more comfortable playing with my left hand than my right hand.I don't have any problem finding left handed guitar because my only favorite guitars are fender strat, tele and les paul and they are pretty easy to find in any guitar stores.I live in Florida btw.
I heard about Jimmi playing a flipped righty guitar when I was just a boy learning the guitar....since that day I have quite often flipped my guitar to play like him....it really pushes the boundaries of your concentration...as well as I often find myself playing things that are just incredibly strange but sometimes quite good....its like learning a whole second instrument and i swear it opens pathways in your brain for a whole new play style ya never knew ya had....give it a try!!!

Not true. Dave wrote the main riff; the one that uses power chords. Kurt wrote everything else in that song
Bruh Bruhh no Dave Grohl wrote they intro and the power chord riff. There’s multiple videos of Kurt and Dave sayin he wrote scentless apprentice
nope kurt wrote the intro. read up on it. thrres an interview where he says it
Bruh Bruhh Dave wrote intro.
Gregory mackintosh from paradise lost is my all time favourite left handed guitarist
Any other lefties that just learned right handed to avoid paying more for gear?

I just realized this video came out the day I got my first electric guitar, and I'm a lefty. Wild.
You played scentless apprentice wrong. It’s in e flat drop d and he plays the power chords F and D flat.🤙
