How to Plant California Native Plants - and November 2023 Central California Native Garden Update

I show you how I plant native California plants in my central Sierra Nevada foothills garden. California native plants are ideal for anyone who wants to beautify their landscape while also practicing sustainable gardening techniques that enrich the local ecosystem, supporting local pollinators, and are low-water and drought tolerant. My garden, in particular, has an emphasis on deer-resistant native California plants.
Every month I provide an update on this garden which was originally planted in December 2022. Now exactly one year later, I'm planting more plants to replace the ones I lost last summer, and to fill out some of the spaces where more plants were needed. I learned a lot in the last year - and hopefully I can help others get a head start - especially anyone struggling with deer, gophers, clay soils, and poor soils!
