  • Here's the document that goes into greater detail on the SULEV warranty: www.kiesmotorsports.com/blogs...
    -----
    Hey Everyone,
    In today's video, we're answering a huge question... what happened to the cheapest F30 in the country?!?! Well, as you may remember in our first video ( • WE BOUGHT THE CHEAPEST... , we bought a BMW F30 328i (n26) with the timing chain failure. We initially thought that we would do a cool motor swap on it, BUT we talked to our local dealer to see if they had any input on any quick fixes and found out about the SULEV warranty that got us a new engine, turbo, and radiator!
    Keep in mind that the SULEV is EXTREMELY limited on what it covers and where you live, so this will not apply to everyone, but if you live in this area, you should certainly talk to your dealer about possible coverage for your car!
    Here's the part number for the timing chain that typically fails: Build Date Up to 01/2015 - 11317584084
    This timing chain is normally okay: Build Date After 01/2015 - 11318648732

    Not sure how you got so lucky Brian. My 2013 328i with 109K N26 engine just had the exact same thing happened. Vehicle is registered in Vermont so definitely has SULEV coverage. Towed it into dealer and BMW is denying coverage under SULEV because Oil Pump, Oil pump chain, Timing chain, timing chain guides are not among the parts listed, which makes since to me. I think maybe they hooked you up because you go there a lot or they wanted some free publicity on your CZcams channel. For those of you who after watching this video are banking on keeping your N26 till the engine grenades from a timing chain related failure DON'T DO IT because you are going to be out of luck. Sell the car immediately if it is still running and count your blessings you dodged the bullet.

    SAINT BRIAN! This is the news I needed! I have a 2013 f30 N26 with 60K! I am loving this video, brother! Thank you for finally addressing this massive BMW lawsuit problem. They are SILENT about the California warranty! And I'm very happily a citizen of the great state of NY, north of your location. My Albany dealership NEVER mentioned this. And I've been toying with selling my mint sapphire black metallic with red interior and never seen snow. Now I can sell with a warranty! Love you guys. Such a service.

    Great to know... but BMW should have helped out all N20 owners... they knew it was a problem, made an anemic gesture to extend the warranty to 70K or 8 years and many of us are left with a $3500 repair bill. It cost BMW my future business.

    CJ, I just reviewed and watched your awesome comments on this free motor. I must thank you big time as I just came from my dealer and had to walk out with just the diagnostic fee because I simply can’t afford the cost of replacing the turbo which BMW told me the failure was. At a cost of 6K geez I thought that would be an engine, but just the turbo. Let me tell you I got a quick education. So I started researching to make this a diy project and save the labor cost. I’m not new to BMW by any means but with sever arthritis at age 64 it’s all I can do just to spin a wrench. . That cost at the dealer for replacing just the turbo alone is 6K. I hope I’m I taking in your info correctly when I assume they will replace the turbo only seeing that was listed in the
    warranty paperwork you scrolled through in this video. So in regards to those warranty paperwork notes, how do I download the information paperwork that you scrolled though and I must stress the emphasis on my turbo which was is my issue. I believe I meet all of the requirements. I’m in Connecticut
    and this state covers and rollbacks to 2007 as noted in your video of that paperwork And I do have the ultra low emissions ULEV. I hope to hear from you soon. Please and thank you.

    If your bmw has a check engine light caused for whatever reason, bmw has to fix the root problem, at least in california. Great Video Brian. Looking around since my 2013 F30, with 105k miles, gave me an Low Oil Pressure error this morning and was recommended not drive it anymore. One shop I called said that I should get ride of the car as its about $11k to fix it. Not sure if SULEV would cover it.

      Did you ever figure out what caused the low oil pressure to come on?

    I bought my daughter her first car a 2011 bmw 328i only 94k miles in great condition. Sulev in California, car was running great but Service engine light came on, the codes stated 2 cylinders with misfires.. so I took it into my local BMW dealer for them to check out. They replaced both catalytic converters, vanos, cylinder head, valve cover, spark plugs, coils, o2 sensors and probably some im forgetting. All covered by warranty, service associate said it was $19k in parts alone.. awesome warranty

    Mines build date is 5/19/16. N26 engine. So the bet is it's got plenty of spunk left! Only ~53k miles so far. Not in one of those states though unfortunately...
    I would love more videos regarding the N26 engine and insight if any on the newer ones like my '16. Most of the the timing issues and other issues the N20 had were "fixed" is what I find in forums but they are never verified or talked about much...

    Man this it great. I wish I would have found out about this 6 months ago. I had a 12 328i that the timing chains were shot and the oil pump chain with the tensioner. They quoted me $7k to fix it plus there was leak coming from something. Long story short got screwed into getting a 17 330i xdrive and got every warranty I could so if it happened again I'd be covered

    1/20/23. This is a real thing!!! I'm in Connecticut, and bmw of North haven just honored it on my 2013 328i xdrive with 110,000 miles. While it wasn't a brand new engine like the video states, they did replace all the parts, free off charge that were on the list that pertained to my make and model. Saved me thousands!!! Definitely look into it if you're in a state that has these laws.

      @naterscool1 Před 3 lety

      Yes, Its a interference engine so if the chain stretches too much(usually by 140k) the teeth on the gear will skip, causing the piston to slam into the intake valve and destroying the engine. The dealer estimate is over 20k to replace so its better to pay 2500 now vs totaling your car.

  • @milesowen270
    @milesowen270 Před 3 lety

    Wow, I wish BMW would just change my timing chain for me. I have a 2013 328i (N26 SULEV) as well, xDrive! Yeah, I'm getting ready to do a LOT of work to change this thing with that front differential in the way. My engine's still good but when I pulled the valve cover, I noticed part of the chain guide has already broken off. Geesshh. I am dreading it too. By the way, it has 108,000 miles and we live in Texas and bought it at Carmax. Love the car though, it handles superb.
