this song sounds perfect in 1974, and also in 2023 and 2058
Again, not a single weak point on this record, one of the greatest records of all time (my personal top 10) and the finest work by Genesis in my humble view. The Lamia is one of the the greatest rock songs ever made.
I read your comment, and agreed with every word 😉
@@keithjones6023 Thank you buddy cheers 👍🏾😉
@@MostafaTamer89 This song never fails to give me goosebumps.... within the first few seconds of opening.
@@spaketticarbonada9651 same here. Simply amazing.
Did you ever see The Musical Box perform this (or better yet, Genesis :-) )? I appreciate this tune even more since I saw that. Chills, tears...sheer power.
50th year and still just as magnificent as in 1974
Oui c est vrai
The Lamia is simply a perfect song! 🎸🎶🎧❤️
This band is gonna make it big since they release songs every week
Surely.
Lol.
WHAT ! ....
Nah, the lead singer just quit. He was the real genius behind things. It'll never last...
@@TheBanMan I hope they find a good replacement for him...
This may be my favorite of all Steve's guitar solos.
1:08 gives me goosebumps every single time. Never has melancholy been so perfectly captured in a song. Peter's voice in particular really sells it.
Yes, that vocal delivery, the chords and drum fill is just beautiful melancholy.
Goosebumps EVERY single time also...and when he sings
"Silent sorrow in empty boats"
The poetry of this song takes your breath away.
I could listen to it for all Eternity
5:25 gives me goosebumps. One of Gabriel’s greatest vocal moments
Rmi 368 x with organ mode and a phase 100 does indeed do that
Can a story so captivating be better told than this?!?!!?Lyrically, musically, emotionally - this is perfection that only a name would stain!!
Possibly my favorite song on The Lamb, which is my favorite Genesis album. Nothin like Genesis.
Still gives me goosebumps after all these decades. One of, if not the best track from The Lamb.
When Tony Banks & Peter Gabriel got together to write a song, they would create such beautiful music as The Lamia, my favorite song on the album. Hackett's electric guitar that closes out The Lamia is sublime!
I think the great thing about this particular song is that there's something for every band member here. Excellent keyboard textures from Tony, great rhythms for Mike and Phil, a guitar solo that Steve still speaks highly of, and utterly fantastic lyrics from Pete.
I quite like the song as well! 😊
Absolutely! ❤❤❤
The lyrics and vocals are both outstanding
Yes they are!! ❤
Musicianship at it's finest
🎶 The Lamia 🎶 Thanks Genesis For This Excellent,
Awesome & Fantastic Masterpiece, You're The Best!!!!!
GENESIS FOREVER!!!!! 🎤🎹🎸🥁🎸🎼 🎤🎹🎸🥁🎸🎼 🐑
E a marzo a vendere i The Musical Box a Brescia
Come sempre sarò a Roma il 28 .Parco della musica, non posso mancare.
Amo i Genesis da 50 anni, con i Musical box ritorno indietro con molta commozione, fino alla mia fine.
Timeless masterpiece ❤🎶
This is one example of a great group in the hall of fame. They earned it
I love the opening piano progression so much. This album is indeed one of the best things ever heard
Super underrated song
This is a classic masterpiece. It’s amazing that the band didn’t agree
GENIUS best band ever
Sweet beautiful Song! I love you Genesis!
« Oh Lamia your flesh that remains... »
There we feel like flying away with the sound of Mellotron !
As a young man there was a raging debate with Lamb obsessed friends which of the 4 "sides" of the Lamb was the best. Hard to compare near perfection, but side 3, and the Lamia, is the one that brings tears for me. Great guitar solos "speak", but I can't quite say what the "words" are, including in this one, only the emotions. Maybe that's most important. An extension of the brilliant and unsurpassed lyrics of the song? My brain spins with, "...Only a magic that a name would stain".
The Lamb is an excellent Album created by GENESIS!!IT'S Brilliant ALL the way through!! ❤❤❤❤
Absolutely right 👍
@@keithjones6023 Thankyou
This is the one I've been waiting for! Even the greatest albums have their stand out tracks, this for me is the best. It's just beautiful, Genesis at their very best.
Maybe it's that I'm just hearing this for the first few times but to me it's so perfect. I'm astonished by how beautiful it is. Amazing
@@miscellaneousetc.4280 You are right about the song being perfect, I've thought that since l bought the album nearly 50 years ago! 😒
This song is my personal favourite from The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway. Soulful vocal from Peter, beautiful guitar solo from Steve, sad and atmosperic piano from Tony, strong rythm section from Mike and Phil.
The piano makes me cry.
The lights are dimmed and once again the stage is set for you...
A beautiful song, excellence in every second of it.
"We all have loved you, Rael." Shivers down my spine. And "only a magic that a name would stain". Beautiful.
One of my fav Genesis songs ever!! I love the Steve's guitar solo in the closing section!
The closing section much better on Steve's live recording czcams.com/video/BC2IoAlSlPc/video.html
👍 🎹 Tony Banks rocks! 🎹👍
Lyrics:
The scent grows richer, he knows he must be near,
He finds a long passageway lit by chandelier.
Each step he takes, the perfumes change
From familiar fragrance to flavors strange.
A magnificent chamber meets his eye.
Inside, a long rose-water pool is shrouded by fine mist.
Stepping in the moist silence, with a warm breeze he's gently kissed.
Thinking he is quite alone,
He enters the room, as if it were his own,
But ripples on the sweet pink water
Reveal some company unthought of
Rael stands astonished doubting his sight,
Struck by beauty, gripped in fright;
Three vermilion snakes of female face,
The smallest motion, filled with grace.
Muted melodies fill the echoing hall,
But there is no sign of warning in the siren's call:
"Rael welcome, we are the Lamia of the pool.
We have been waiting for our waters to bring you cool."
Putting fear beside him, he trusts in beauty blind,
He slips into the nectar, leaving his shredded clothes behind.
"With their tongues, they test, taste and judge all that is mine.
They move in a series of caresses
That glide up and down my spine.
As they nibble the fruit of my flesh, I feel no pain,
Only a magic that a name would stain.
With the first drop of my blood in their veins
Their faces are convulsed in mortal pains.
The fairest cries, 'We all have loved you Rael'."
Each empty snakelike body floats,
Silent sorrow in empty boats.
A sickly sourness fills the room,
The bitter harvest of a dying bloom.
Looking for motion I know I will not find,
I stroke the curls now turning pale, in which I'd lain entwined
"O Lamia, your flesh that remains I will take as my food"
It is the scent of garlic that lingers on my chocolate fingers.
Looking behind me, the water turns icy blue,
The lights are dimmed and once again the stage is set for you.
😋
just love that Mellotron coming in at 1:09.. then the choir sound at 4:48 or so... spine tingling and so perfect..wow!
Its not a mellotron its a Rmi 368x with organ mode and a phase 100 my friend
The Mellotron comes at 1:50
On of the most perfetc songs of Genesis, so one of the most perfect songs I ever heard.
What can you say? This tune is excellent, a five-star tribute to musicianship. Composed by people who know all the chords etc 🎵🎼🔊🔊👍😎
PETER GABRIEL the Best. Maravillosa, Preciosa OBRA !!!
Pezzo strappalacrime, inutile neanche a dirlo ,Genesis GOAT
I would be happy if this song will be played on the upcoming tour.
That's very unlikely to happen. Steve Hackett's tour is a better bet. He's performed it with his great band in recent yrs.
One of Genesis' best. Great drumming from Phil. I really love it when Peter sings "the bitter harvest of a dying bloom"
This was always my favorite part of the album. From "Anyway" to here."The Lamia" is such a punctuating masterpiece that folds it together. But honestly, their is no bad spot on this album, it's all woven together masterfully. Up there with the all too famous Dark Side of the Moon for me. One of the greatest albums ever made
Best song of The Lamb, period!
There's so much to learn from in this track. The fills at 6:25, 6:34, and 6:40 are a perfect illustration of what makes Phil one of the most brilliant drummers. He doesn't trouble himself with laying down a pattern -- he plays _along_ with the song, as if it's an independent, disembodied spirit moving through the air that the musicians -- as all musicians should -- just grab ahold of and join in with.
Yes, yes and yes lol
2021...and 'The Lamia' still one of my absolute fave Songs of all time. Hands down.
Grazie Genesis ! Grazie Peter !! 🙏🏻👏🏻🙏🏻
The lamia, es la vida. Es el amor, la añoranza. La despedida ,el adios. The Lamia es tu propio segreto.
Uno dei brani più affascinanti dei mitici Genesis in senso assoluto!
Siiiii!!😃👍
One of the best songs from the best album ever!
Can't argue with that 😏
Great Album, yes, indeed! Chamber of 32 doors and Carpet Crawlers are awesome too but the best ever is Selling England by The Pound.
Awesome. Timeless masterpiece!!! ❤
Great song 😍😍Genesis for EVER!!!!
Meravigliosa,
Ancora dopo 45 anni meravigliosa lirica,
La voce di sublime
IMHO, One of the best moments of the Lamb
No doubt about that 👍
Best of the Best.
No one will never be like Genesis...epic....makes me speechless....Genius ❤
❤
This is an amazing piece of History Total Bliss
Steve Hacketts guitar solo is outstanding on this 👏
I am blown away by this. Possibly one of the best lyrics in the history of lyrics. Such an amazing song. Wow.
Beautiful song for sure
For sure!
There's a mix of this track, otherwise the same as this, that lets that guitar solo play out another progression. Includes more of the flute, and a couple more stabs from Phil.
*I WANT THAT ONE.*
Unequivocally YES
Their music is a miracle
Magic Happens!
No band tests Genesis, music of the gods.
Saw genesis doing this album 1975 at hipperdrome in Birmingham from that day I was hooked never saw a concert like it nor since it was a play not a concert went on to see genesis on every album tour after up till Duke after Duke it got a bit poppy still my faverite band to this day never forget this concert saw Floyd supertramp king crimson zeppelin 79 knebworth yes so many bands genesis still couldn't touch em wish I had a time machine I'd go back to may 75 to see this concert again still got the programme happy days 🤘
Per me la miglior Band dell’universo
Really love this song, so peaceful and beautiful
A masterpiece
Amazing talent for our listeners for life. It’s like going to an art gallery and viewing the paintings. All band members with their best talents on display.
One of the most beautiful Genesis songs ever written, IMHO. It was not a single and probably not played live since Peter left. Love the lyrics, melodies, chord progression, piano accompaniment, interludes, guitar solo, vocal, drumming...
This song feels sort of like the quiet culmination of all that Genesis had done to that point. Still sad that Peter decided he had to leave the band after this album, but he definitely bowed out when they were at their peak.
I Love this Song everything is perfect and makes me cry all time I hearing. I still ask me Genesis found many ideias and imagination too. My heart and my soul with yours. Helena Brown/ Brazil
Been listening since I took the wrapper off the cover off in '73. Tears still come every time I go back home to this!
Guys feel how deeply this goes and they just hate admitting that it's so beautiful that they cry. I have no problem with that, I relish it.
One of the best songs from this very good album.
Good Lord...this tune is so Freaking Good...
Ennesimo capolavoro immortale
Pure poetry.
L'assolo finale di Steve è da brividi 🙏❤
This extraordinary song anticipates the sadness, melancholy and unease that began to become so evident in the mid-70s...and that today are an undoubted certainty...

🙏🏽💖
Remarkable song and lyrics, and brilliant musicians who never fail to deliver.
A beautiful song from a great band, music from a wonderful era, the 70's!
Always magical ! Thanks !
Always loved Pete’s voice, the way it goes from sweet to sinister in a beat.
That's a nice love song, great Peter and also Genesis
That's Phil Collins
Yeah Peter too
Absolutely magnificent.
From the 2007 interviews...
Peter Gabriel: To try and keep everybody happy, there would be parts of [the album] where we'd be discussing lyrics and throwing some of the words around for different bits. So, "The Lamia", which was Tony's musical piece, or "Supernatural Anaesthetist" which Steve had brought in - so then, they would discuss some of the lyrical stuff with me because they'd got the "writer's ticket", but I was pretty anal about hanging on to some lyrical throw-through and being able to put a stamp on it, I really wanted a tougher edge to this record than we'd had previously, and I didn't think there was anyone else in the band that was going to deliver that.
The best at the end of the Song 💯🥁👍
Fantastic song, my favourite on Lamb. Such beauty and melancholy all rolled into a majestic six and a half minutes with lovely piano and keyboards from Banks and the best ever guitar solo by Hackett.
A hymn!
fantastic music
Simply brilliant
Back when music was music!
One of the two best albums...the other one is Selling....
How true!
Perfectly according with you
perfect album
When you think about it, there aren't that many albums you could describe as perfect, this is one of them though!
A masterpiece!
How does it feel to be on the top for such a extended period of time with such a strong and talented performance in all categories, Phil Collins.
Masterpiece! And Steves solo at the end is perfect! The whole song is perfect. This song, album and band have contributed so much enjoyment for me in my life. I cant express enough how much I appreciate this.
I bought this work of art in’74 and still go back to it.Hard to single out favourite pieces but this and chamber of 32 doors are particularly moving
Wonderful
This album is so good I had to buy a twice.
Amazing storytelling throughout this album-- sometimes in the more surreal sense, and sometimes literal as here, but consistently evocative. Love this album.
Beautiful 🌞🌞
“IT IS THE SCENT OF GARLIC THAT LINGERS ON MY CHOCOLATE FINGERS” 👃 🧄 💨 🍫 🤚
g a r l i c
I so much love this
This track is the goat of all. Period
so moving !
Amazing Song.
