I was lucky enough to see this tour, at the now torn-down Civic Center in Philly in 1974! I STILL have the ticket stub!
I saw it too... Colston Hall, Bristol, UK.... brilliant!!!
Ça devait être grandiose
The whole album is an absolute masterpiece. This era of Genesis is my favourite period.
They just couldn't put a step wrong and would have blown all the other prog rock bands into the dust. Ah well, I still love them, and PF and LZ.
This marked the end of an era... before a new one began
Yes my friend you are right that meas evolution for New era but not allways ,sometimes is just involution sorry that the WORLD is going!!!
I was 19 years old when I heard this album for the first time.
I was 10 hits deep on crystal LSD and a handful of cubensis.
My best friend had this record on Vinyl at the time and he put it on.
I never heard it before, so I layed on my back on the floor and closed my eyes, and listened to the entire album all the way through.
What a journey that was!
My life changed from that moment forward.
I am almost 30 now and this album will always be held very close to my heart.❤
You know, everything was different then. This album is the soundtrack of my youth
Tony Banks 🏦 is a genius , he plays all the keyboards 🎹: Moog , Mellotron , Harpsichord, of course Organ and also 12 strings acoustic guitar 🎸!!!!
The song, In the Cage, has more layers than a wedding cake.
And you can enjoy this cake many times without gaining weight.
Nada de lo que hacía Gabriel tenia una sola capa. Es un músico increíble.
My favorite Genesis album-it’s a true masterpiece !!!
Most definitely
Duuuuuude!!!!
Genesis during their peak years. Peters artistry brought out the best of Genesis.
Yes. I love the progression of these albums.
Genesis at their best!
unquestionably !
You’re absolutely right about that!💯‼️👏🏻👏🏻🎶🎶🎶🙌🏻
Yes, 100%. What a shame he didn't hang on. Not saying that I don't adore ATOTT et al but would have loved to hear what Peter's input would have produced.
Masterpiece. Masterwork album!!! ❤❤❤ Genesis forever!!!!! ❤❤❤⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ EnzoItaly
And a childhood belief
Brings a moment's relief
But my cynic soon returns
And the lifeboat burns
My spirit just never learns
Tony Banks & Peter Gabriel delivered a masterpiece for the ages on this track! That mid-section keyboard solo and Peter’s soaring vocals just make this an astounding classic which the whole record is of course.
❤❤❤😊😊😊💕💞💞💕🥁
Don't forget those mad dtums from Phil Collins...
For the longest time, I thought this song was after Peter Gabriel left the band and it was Phil Collins singing.
Not to mention one of the all-time-greatest drum "Phil's" at 5:49...
One of the greatest songs, especially at concerts! 🎸🎶♥️
I agree...🙋♀️🎵🎶😷
The Musical Box and this one - yes !
Lucky people who saw this whit peter me heard it whit phil on vocal 2007 Montréal big o was m’y highlite of the show
5:30 That incredible transition from the "raindrops keep falling on my head" that's in 4, switching to the 6 count when Tony goes into the main keyboard part (after 2 loose beats/half measure), but then Phil's drum fill going into the last verse does that weird thing forcing a 4 feel onto the 6 by emphasizing 3-4-5-6 "In a trap...". Absolutely love it!
I had no idea. I love that they served the song instead of showboating.
Some of the best Rock drums I have ever heard...
Phil is spectacular.
The band is incredible.
The keyboard solo around 3.40 is mad hard to play, respect to Tony Banks \o/
Thanks Genesis for the beautiful music!
Absolutely brilliant. My most favourite track, ever!
@Phil Collins Isn't it just FANTASTIC that as busy as he is, and dealing with pain issues and other personal things, that Phil IS so bored and considerate, that he has SO much free time to troll around CZcams, and send so much love to his fans?? And his masterful use of emojis is unparalleled!! That looks EXACTLY how Phil would respond!! That is so him!
Jesus Christ.
@Phil Collins Hey, Pricko, what happens if someone writes to your fake email? Identity theft? How about you take a hike?
Mine also!
Mine also Karen!
What in the F?!?!? This is 100 percent amazing. The bass line at the end the drums keys and lyrics. Wow.
My Name 📛 Is John!😎🤓🙂☺️🙋🏻
So , I Am Bias Towards This Song!
Thanks Chris Clark 👩🏻
Chris Clark 👩🏻Was My Older Sister 👩🏻 Who , In 1986 , Got Sick And Tired Of Me Listening 🎧 To Elvis Presley And The Beatles. And Said "John. Have You Ever Heard Of 'Genesis'?"
I Said "No, Chris, I Have Not!"
She Played 'Genesis" Song "Mama".
And I Was Hooked!🤩😍🥰
I Remember 🤔 Saying "Chris. That Singer Sounds Like Phil Collins!"
I Remember 🤔 Chris Laughing 😅😂🤣
And Saying "That Singer Is Phil Collins!"
I Love You Chris Clark Pevenhouse( 1966-2012 )🥺😢🙏🏻✝️
Gone Way Too Soon 🥺😢🙏🏻✝️
But why this album is so beautiful? I can't stop to listening at.❤
I used to sing the start of this song to my daughters when they were little to send them to sleep, it worked MOST of the time.
I've sung this to my granddaughter and "Like China" by Phil Collins.
I sang them Sleep Now, from Peter Hammill, with meaningful lyrics.
how depressing lol
I remember hearing this music a long long time ago.
I was in a cage at this time. Jesus freed me by his precious blood He took me out by forgiving all my sins and giving a white garment to me. Praise to him for ever and ever. 🙏❤️⚘️
Best line up, best albums ........ best era of this marvelous band 🤩😍
That keyboard riff has to be the most claustrophobic things I've ever heard!
Two masterpieces in 1974: this record, and my birth 😊...
I absolutely adore this track, it's definitely my favorite one, it makes you wanna sing it like no other in this album.
This song is pure magic the Album is Iconic and started the Progressive English movement in the 70’s. Gabriel is just incredible.
Hacketts vamp riff is classic..the heaviest riff in prog history
🎶 In The Cage 🎶 Thanks Genesis For This Excellent,
Awesome & Fantastic Masterpiece Of Music, You're The Best!!!!!
GENESIS FOREVER!!!!! 🎤🎹🎸🥁🎸🎼 🎤🎹🎸🥁🎸🎼 🐑
Thank you my name is Genesis😆
0:56 & 5:31 I love when these moments come around!
👌
Is there anything comparable to this master piece in this era? What happened to Us?
I bought this album in 1974/75. I used to play over and over again every evening in a basement in my old boarding school.
This is the 1st time I am listening to it for more than 30 years but the lyrics, specially this song "I've got sunshine in my stomach" rush back into my memory.
I even made a short film based on Fly on A Windshield when I was in film school.
And even now, every time I get really fed up I utter: Pumping is almost over for my sweet heart.
I feel as if I have a special relationship with this album that no one in the world can understand. Has music changed this much or is it just me?
I want to see the film......
The best double album ever!
No
I’ve listened to The Wall countless times, and I’ve had The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway on my backlog for a while, so just now giving it a listen, but I’m sure I’ll will like The Wall more in the end.
This album is still amazing so far!
This, Beatles white album, Tommy, The Wall and I’m sure they are others I’m missing.
@@wesmatthews5532 Quadrophenia, Electric Ladyland, Blonde on Blonde, Exile on Main St., Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness.....
@@ryanjones4150 KISS ALIVE!
Best song of the album along with The Colony Of Slippermen.
☝️ One of the greatest 💿 albums ever MADE !!!!! ✅✅✅🎸🎸🎸✌🏾💿💿💿🆙🆙
Together with Deep Purple’s MADE IN JAPAN 🇯🇵, Physical Graffiti by Led Zeppelin and Relayer by Yes , and a very lot MORE 💜💜🎸🎸❤️🌎🌎🌎🌎
Genesis, you should do a live stream of the entire album in one sitting, that would be aweosome. Anyways, thanks for this.
I don't think Peter Gabriel would ever go for it. And this is still Peter out front....
WHAT, i mean, like they're doing with the songs, but instead the full album, never said concert or anything, i should've said "premiere" instead of "live-stream"
one and a half hours of people spamming "sussudio", "who dunnit?" or "where did rael dick go?" on chat lmao

@@markfriedman7425 Peter is proud of this album, although if he and Tony were talking about it, i'm sure there would be some tension about it lol. And it's funny, Tony's viewpoint i usually agree with, but on this album i agree more with Peter.
Loving the complete genesis 70's vibe!!! 😊 😊 😊
Fantastico... estoy asombrado, gracias por poner éste material a disposición..!! Una emoción increíble siendo fanático de la que creo es la mejor banda de la historia.!
My favorite song on this album is Back in N.Y. C
Love you phil collins
My favorite Peter Gabriel Genesis song!
Great song!! Sensational rithymc section and incredible key solo!!
I love heavy/hard guitar in background 🎸 🤘🤘

I got sunshine in my stomache, like i just want my baby to sleep
THIS IS.... Genesis.
Genesis forever
Dios, qué absoluta maravilla es ésta
Christmas 74..thanks Mum n Dad !!
I was born in 29th December 1974
4:55 what a vocal chord !!!!!!!!!
so classic masterpiece and genius composition
Il basso di Michael riveste di tragica ambientazione il brano che descrive l'angoscia di una scissione...
Perfect timing! I have been saying for 6 months that I think the world is ready to HEAR what you are saying, before I don't think they were awake enough to actually listeb from the heart.
This is my favorite track❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Divine Song! I love you Genesis!
Such a stellar and evocative intro, you can always feel the emotion. Also, the outro is a very nice surprise
The LYRICS of this AMAZING song.
I got sunshine in my stomach
Like I just rocked my baby to sleep.
I got sunshine in my stomach
But I can't keep me from creeping sleep,
Sleep, deep in the deep.
He wakes in a cold sweat with a strong urge to vomit.
There's no sign of the cocoon and he can see more of the cave about him.
There is much more of the glowing water dripping from the roof
And stalactites and stalagmites are forming and decomposing at an alarming rate all around him.
Rockface moves to press my skin
White liquid turn sour within
Turn fast - turn sour
Turn sweat - turn sour.
Must tell myself that I'm not here.
I'm drowning in a liquid fear.
Bottled in a strong compression,
My distortion shows obsession
In the cave.
Get me out of this cave!
As fear and shock register, he assures himself that self-control will provide some security,
But this thought is abandoned as the stalactites and stalagmites lock into a fixed position, Forming a cage whose bars are moving in towards him.
If I keep my self-control,
I'll be safe in my soul.
And the childhood belief
Brings a moment's relief,
But my cynic soon returns
And the lifeboat burns.
My spirit just never learns.
Stalactites, stalagmites
Shut me in, lock me tight.
Lips are dry, throat is dry.
Feel like burning, stomach churning,
I'm dressed up in a white costume
Padding out leftover room.
Body stretching, feel the wrenching
In the cage
Get me out of the cage!
At one moment there is a flash of light and he sees an infinite network of cages all strung together by a rope like material.
In the glare of a light,
I see a strange kind of sight;
Of cages joined to form a star
Each person can't go very far;
All tied to their things
They're netted by their strings,
Free to flutter in memories of their wasted wings.
As the rocky bars press in on Rael's body, he sees his brother John outside, looking in.
John's face is motionless despite screams for help,
But in his vacant expression a tear of blood forms and trickles down his cheek.
Then he calmly walks away leaving Rael to face the pains which are beginning to sweep through his body.
Outside the cage I see my Brother John,
He turns his head so slowly round.
I cry out Help! before he can be gone,
And he looks at me without a sound.
And I shout out 'John please help me!'
But he does not even want to try to speak.
I'm helpless in my violent rage
And a silent tear of blood dribbles down his cheek,
And I watch him turn away and leave the cage.
My little runaway.
(Raindrops keep failing on my head, they keep falling on my...)
In a trap, feel a strap
Holding still. Pinned for kill.
Chances narrow that I'll make it,
In the cushioned straight-jacket.
Just like 22nd Street,
They got me by my neck and feet.
Pressures building, can't take more.
My headaches charge, earaches roar.
In this pain
Get me out of this pain.
If I could change to liquid,
I could fill the cracks up in the rocks.
I know that I am solid
And I am my own bad luck.
However, just as John walks out of sight, the cage dissolves and Rael is left spinning like a top.
Outside John disappears, my cage dissolves,
without any reason my body revolves.
Keep on turning,
Keep on turning,
Turning around,
spinning around.
(round, round, round, round...)
Super song about a trip by drug: I've got sunshine in my stomach...

Honestly, lyrics to this are a bit stiff and overwrought. Not Gabriel's best.
All those likes for copy 'n 'paste? Ha!
@@v-town1980 Likes are meaningless, except for you perhaps. Its the LYRICS that are important. I hope you get many likes in your life because otherwise YOUR life means nothing HA!

I actually love the piano 🎹 part. And of course Phil. Happy Birthday 🎁🎉🎂 🥳(almost ) to you Phil. Love ya
What piano part?
BACK IN NEW YORK CCIIITTYYYYYYY
Excelente tema con la voz de Peter Gabriel, y la batería de Phil Collins, disfruto mucho este tema, también los teclados
This track and the entire album are incredible masterpieces, sure peaks of so called pop/rock music and not only of prog/rock genre.from Treviso Italy with passion and love
This is incredible
SOUNDS!!!!!!!! I LOVE IT!!!! GENESIS CAME BACK TO THE MILKY WAY 🌌 THANKS WELCOME HOME 🏡
I got sunshine in my stomach ! I forgot to mention In the Cage.I enjoy very much !
Keith is right. They made really good music back then but there is still good music now. It is an historic fact that as an Empire fades, it flowers culturally. You can take any Empire, Byzantine, Austro Hungarian, French, Italian Renaissance as an example and a similar effect is discernable.
No, you can only see a copy of the copy of the copy.
Our civilization has collapsed, and all that is visible is the ruins.
Melhor banda de todos os tempos!!🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎤
In the cage is absolutely Junius
What a great birthday present 🎁 known but one of my all time favourites
Very good

ThankYou💝GENESIS
Truly amazing so talented absolutely incredible thanku so much love and god bless x

Temazo Maravilloso
Pure Gold England 🇬🇧 Is the place to be legendary 🙌 ❤
Un sublime album...
Masterpiece!Have a great day!
This is the greatest prog rock album in history because the vocals and lyrics are part of the whole package. Yes never did that in an appreciable way
I like more than Selling England by the Pound.
But this album is awesome.
Yes was more about a vibe than a concrete story.
@@TiagoSantos-ld6qf great album but I feel like this album works better as a whole.
I take it everyone had a blessed Sabbath
Its about 10 years since the last time I tuned in...its like the firts time but I know all of the words ans sing like a pro.
The Song! Dark Art Rock.
El tema Rey de The Lamb, sublime!!
Probably Best Genesis album ever made with Peter Gabriel and also this is the last album ever recorded with him , cause after this he retired from the band in May 1975 .
And it took about 20 years before they finally replaced him with Ray Wilson!
@@AndE667 I didn’t know about it !!!
@@AndE667 In my opinion Ray Wilson is not capable to reach Peter Gabriel’s possibles.
Saw it I've Flowers
Hi Keith couldn't agree more..

🍻👏
bring please live over europe 2007 on vinyl.....we love genesis ...yes we realy do......✌😁😎
Hopefully some young people are listening, they will understand what all the fuss is about. They will know how much better music is from this era compared to some of the rubbish today! 😉
Great music indeed! But you do realize that what you say has been said by every parent to every child ever?
@@vinnyop that's so true, although l can't imagine what music would be like in future if people of today are saying that in 20-30 years time 🙄
@@keithjones6023 Well it's not like there wasn't terrible music back then, and lots of it got a lot more attention than early Genesis ever did. There's good music and bad music in every year, and denying that is just falling into nostalgia.
@@MmadA-lg6ix You know, you are so right. I admit that I have probably got a bit of a blinkered view of music, especially towards music of today. Perhaps if I gave it a listen, and didn't spend as much time playing my old prog rock albums, l might even like some of it 🤔
@@keithjones6023 I found it interesting following your discussion, I have been listening to music since 1972 when my parents bought me a little transistor radio and I totally agree with Mmad that music has good and bad in every year. My preference is alternative music, so I tend to listen to stations that play this kind of music and I have found brilliant music in every year since then right up to now.
