ABS-VSA-BRAKE LIGHT FIX 2004 Honda Pilot

  • This should always be first thing you check when dealing with this issue. The Honda Pilot (along with a few other Honda models) use a separate Power wire on your battery terminal to power the Modules for these systems. It takes very little corrosion to stop the connection and sometimes nothing is even visibly wrong. This will prevent the ABS module from communicating with the ECM or a scan tool, and cause the ABS light, the VTM-4 light, and in most cases the brake light to activate as well. When the VTM-4 light is present you will not be able to use the Honda's "awd" system either. If your problem also ends up being the terminal connector, once it is cleaned and re attached the systems should reset themselves, you will need to drive the vehicle to reset the ABS light though. Should take less then a mile. I hope this helps!

    Great info, I have a 2012 pilot that had all three lights come on as well, I left the key in the ignition and it drained the battery and triggered these lights to come on, I cleaned the terminals added some brake fluid, replaced the battery with a new one and drove it for a minute and thank God the lights turned off, appreciate the help.

    Great video Jay, had a 2005 one of these from 2007-2020. Put 270,000 miles on it. Change the timing belts and water pumps and they’re bulletproof. Change the diff fluid too. I had a transmission slip from 3-4 for 100,000 miles but never had to get a rebuild. Great information on the 4WD.

    I have a 2011 Nissan Pathfinder SV 4 x 4 and the check Engine light has been on for about 2 years we had it checked and was told that there was a short somewhere they'd do what they do to make it go out and it would be right back on. I went to the positive battery terminal as you had shown on the pilot and there was 2 fuses and 3 wires. I took the whole thing apart and cleaned it all up and the light is now off!!! I just wanted to Thank You so much for your tips those of us who aren't that mechanically inclined learn so much from them

    God bless the internet. You just saved me a big headache of a trip back to the dealership. Just fixed this problem in 2 minutes after watching this video. Had routine service done last week and they didn't connect this cable back tightly to the battery. That bolt was loose. 230,000 miles on my 2004 Pilot and hope to keep it going for a bit longer.

    The Ridgeline and Pilot are AWD. It works from 1st to 3rd gear. Anything faster and the system decouples and becomes FWD. The VTM 4 is just a Variable Torque Management system to help in more sticky situations. It basically changes the traction control to torque the wheels that aren’t freely spinning.

    4 wheel drive is always on up to 18 mph. Every time the car starts from a stop the four wheel drive activates, but the differentials are not locked to prevent tire wear. That button is a differential lock for all four tires to get out of a stuck situation and should never be used on dry pavement because the diffs are locked..

    when going over 60 in a 2012 honda pilot, sometimes vtm4, traction, and abs light come on. After you turn the car off and drive down the road, they disappear. Anyone know the cause. Might be an abs sensor but who knows...

  • @CalebDix

    Have you had any 2009-2015 pilots (or any 3.5 v6) come in with fouling spark plugs due to the eco system running on and off on 3 cylinders!

    • @MXguy95
      @MXguy95  Před 2 lety +5

      Most of the time its a problem with the variable timing solenoids. The oil pressure switches go bad on them an cause tons of misfires and poor drivability issues. I haven't done one on a pilot lately. But just did a Honda Crosstour and a Accord with the same problem.

    C'mon Jay. What’s a few harmless lights?LOLSeriously, if it’s keeping the 4WD from working then they have to be addressed, especially if it’s for sale. Dod you have to adjust the valves? Honda Tracy needs to with the 21st century.

You’re gonna probably be keeping me Company because I’m going on vacation tomorrow, since you are friends with me on Facebook y’all seen that I’m going to visit my dad in Los Angeles. Check out a whole compilation video that I have done which I think you’re actually gonna enjoy. Yes this actually is a bunch of my favorite memories from recent Los Angeles trips.

    Not right with the VTM-4. The pilot is AWD. That button is just for being stuck and locks the rear wheels. It's basically a diff lock. It sends max torque to rear wheels. I'm only pointing this out because I know people think it's the only way to activate 4wd and that's not how it works.
