      @@Paladin1873 ah.... without plugging the barrel (like a blank adapter on an m-16) a blank won't recycle the action on a machine gun. Sorry.

    • @Paladin1873
      @Paladin1873 Před rokem +1

      @@markgarin6355 The barrels of real semiautomatic and automatic Hollywood rental guns are not fully plugged. Dummy guns aside, most of the real machine guns have bore restrictors hidden inside the barrel to create enough back-pressure to cycle the action. These restrictors still have a small hole bored through them to allow some gas to escape out the muzzle. To enhance the visual effect, flash powder may be added to the gun powder to create a large muzzle blast, particularity in low light settings. In the case of recoil operated firearms like the Browning M2, it may be necessary to remove the locking lugs to further improve reliability when firing blanks. If modified this way, live ammunition cannot be fired in these weapons without destroying them. This is one of the reasons you don't see military machine guns and assault rifles altered this way. Instead they use externally mounted blank-firing adapters which remind the users to only fire blank ammo. Because military M2s are recoil operated, which requires unrestricted movement of the barrel, they are fitted with externally mounted recoil enhancers, typically composed of three long rods extending from in front of the muzzle to the barrel shroud in back so they do not interfere with the barrel movement. Otherwise they would fail to feed a new blank round. These days it is not unusual to see dummy guns used in films. Special effects are added to give the illusion they are firing and ejecting empty cases. This kind of CGI capability did not exist when McHale's Navy was filmed.
