- Opera meets the city and the city meets opera. In the Komische Oper Berlin’s pop-up operas, select scenes from the company’s repertoire are performed in urban locations around the German capital, giving its inhabitants the chance to experience this memorable music up close. So far, more than 350,000 people have been reached through the scheme.
In this video filmed at Berlin’s Tegel Airport, Johannes Dunz sing’s Figaro’s aria ‘Largo al factotum’ from Gioachino Rossini’s opera buffa The Barber of Seville. He is accompanied by Deniz Tahberer on the violin, Arnulf Ballhorn on the contrabass and Juri Tarasenok on the bajan accordion, and joined by dancers Michael Fernandez and Paul Gerritsen.

FANTASTIC! - The World Needs A Lot More Of This! - For Free 😲😯
ABSOLUTELY 🎉😂
I still want to be able to afford my rent you know? Just come see us and pay your fair share😓. It’s worth it❤️🔥
ABSOLUTELY GORGEOUS, INCREDIBLE, TO SEE SUCH TALENT AS THIS GIVEN OUT OF CONTEXT, TO THE COMPLETELY OBLIVIOUS, MADE TEARS STREAM DOWN MY FACE, AND I CAN'T EXPLAIN WHY !!!!!!!!!!!
Agreed
Bravo 👏👏☮️🖖🇩🇪🖖
This was crazy... I loved it, especially the look of wonder on the three boys faces.
🎯👍🏽
Me too!!! Their expression was priceless 😊
Every time they go to the airport they will be wondering if there will be another sudden outburst of song
All the young children were totally captivated!! As they should be! What a rare treat for these travelers!!
❤
❤❤
I love this! They don't look like the stereotypical opera singer, and that's fantastic! I'm retired from the stage, but I would arrive at rehearsal sometimes riding a Harley Davidson and wearing a headscarf and ass kicker boots. I'd then open my mouth to sing Queen of the Night or Lakme or Händel...LOL. If someone was new and didn't know me, they were often struck dumb. These guys have a connection to today's kids and youth. Those young people will see that it's perfectly fine to sing opera. BRAVI!
Rossini would have LOVED this, surely!
@Tatiana Jakucka
Be thankful for every good surprise.
... and don't call me Shirley
Yes, Mozart was known for his sense of humor
@@nicolettaavaldi7046 Non parlo italiano quindi ti credo sulla parola!
@@marliesyanke4580 Yes, and by the the peoples reaction they enjoyed this surprise! I wish I was there to enjoy this wonderful experience.
One of the hardest arias to sing because of the speed and they did it beautifully in the acoustics of an airport. Bravi !
Pop-up performances aren't quiet as novel as they were 6 or 7 years ago, but this one thoroughly delighted me. Was beaming from start to finish.
Beyond his singing, his natural ability to interact with the audience is very beguiling.
They are still as fun, feel good, surprising and popular as ever
The smiles and look of wonder on the faces of the crowd did it for me. All airports should have this. Also my favorite aria!😀
Me too!!😄😊
Looks like I'm all the time at the wrong airport...
Me too - how about we authentic Opera aficionados bring a class action suit...actually that's starting to inspire a libr-etto...
It's a really really hard baritone aria to sing and Mr. Dunz is a tenor. Guess he mastered the aria only for this occasion, he didn't have in his repertory before. And he nailed it very well! Huge fun to see. Thank you very much!
Thanks for your enlightening comment. It's funny, I was expecting him to go up a few times when he didn't and I decided that he must be a baritone. You've probably explained why I expected improvised high notes. Interesting.
Have been traveling all my life, never got this lucky yet 😢
Airport waiting rooms can be heavy and tense, a little pop-up Opera raises the mood and puts a smile on faces, the perfect tonic!
EXCELLENT.... Rossini would have LOVED this....
This would have been AMAZING to experience live and in-person.
People always think that opera is for like old, stuck up people, when in reality, it was entertainment that was actually meant for the masses.
That’s people who haven’t been moved by it. This type of thing helps enormously with that.
that is the case with comedy but most operas are drama and is not fun so..
@@alexczink
Depends on the opera.
(A LOT of works are principally derivatives from Greek works of theatre.)
It might help if modern opera didn't have such horrific sets and costumes these days.
@@petebondurant58
It would help if governments, especially those who lean on a specific part of the political spectrum, understand, and realise the data-driven/evidenced-based benefits of arts, and therefore; funded the arts (and the performers and crew) the same way that the fund sports or other forms of entertainment for example.
That would probably help to make the sets and costumes "less horrible", afterall, not all operas can be "Carmen: A Hip Hopera".
when I am at the airport traveling I would love to find someone singing that wonderful music!! thank you very much for sharing!! 🙋🏼🙌
one guy reading the paper ,,he prefers the beatles ,,,,brill video, proper feelgood ,,xxx

BE the excitement you hope to find....
@@lylestavast7652 Yes, I know that it will be like this one day, in some Airport, Supermarket or some Square..🙆🏼♀️🙂
Our world is richer by having amazing people like these in it....
Goodness gracious, what a magnificent voice and performance! 🙏💖💖💖🙏❣️
Having so many Figaros pop up is quite funny and charming! I hope they'd do that in the theater also! Would be a witty expression of how he has to be everywhere at the same time 😁
It's theatre
No, the barber of seville
..that gossiped about Figaro's wedding.
I loved this as do most of the travellers by the look of the smiles all round. Thank you.
the looks on the 3 boys faces was priceless
I gotta admit, this made me smile ear to ear man. Usually opera makes me cry because its a safe space to do so. But this? Well mybfriend, you and your merry band of stalwart players did something special. You gave me a moment of joy. I thank you for that most sincerely sirs. Also thanks very much for the actual title to this music. I went 38 years thinking its title was Figaro lol
This is a wonderful reminder of the older generation to remind the younger folk of what is important and worth preserving. Xx
Pour une fois , quelqu'un qu 'on écoute AILLEURS que dans une salle de concert ! C 'est pas trop tôt !
Quelle voix et quelle prestance !
Félicitations monsieur! Waaa !😍
Absolutely breathtaking Opera
They skipped the double-time repeat toward the end of the piece, but it was still a fun and highly entertaining performance. Bravo to Komische Oper Berlin. THAT's how you get people interested in opera!
This is my favorite aria and I noticed that was left out - it still moved me to tears - this and the video of Lisette Oropesa's audience helper. :) I love opera!
Oh Rossini! How we love you still. Delightful. Brilliant.
Just makes me smile - I watch over and over again - AND I never connected an accordion with Opera...it works! Just superb - wish I had been there. Singer is so engaging with the audience - waves at little kid...and the singer(s) are gorgeous as well...stellar talent.
Amazing Brilliant - to see the faces of the waiting passengers light up with surprise and joy was an absolute delight 💕🙏
Awesome! Wish I was there to witness it
Fantastici
I love this! One of my favorite operas, and he is charming as well as a brilliant musician.
Bravi bravisssssimi!
I have watched this again and again and again and again and again and it's never not wonderful. You brought so much happiness with this. You seemed to have genuinely enjoyed doing this and that made me enjoy it even more. Thank you for that!
It worth to miss your flight for this masterpiece 😂
The Komische Oper is great - I was their regular during a few months when lived in Berlin. it's great to see them spreading the classics around so that people can hear it live and may be become interested.
Bravo ragazzi! 👏👏👏
What an awesome performance!! The ensemble is spot on!! Powerful voice to carry the part of Figaro too, great job! I'd like to hear the entire piece, though, you skipped my favorite part!! 😂
I love his voice lovely
One of the best Largo Al Factotum I listened to
Love it when the talented share their talent.
Rossini rocks. It's music that makes your heart race and produces an awe for the art of it.
Every once in a while I'll play this just for the feel good vibes.
One of the best I've seen in a long time. Well done.
This is a great rendition. Music must have life!
What skilfully crafted stagecraft, as well as being superbly sung! Dunz combined spontaneity (eg, incorporating seamlessly the audience member who wanted to have a 'selfie' taken mid-performance) with knowledge/understanding of the text (waving to the little boy whilst singing "ragazzi", and brushing the voluminous hair of the seated gentleman whilst singing "parrucca"). But most inventive of all was the use of the two look-alike dancers near the end of the performance -- they visually personified the text that Figaro was wanted everywhere: "Figaro here, Figaro there,
Figaro up, Figaro down"! Bravo tutti!
OMG, that is one of the best things I have ever seen. The coolest opera singer ever!
This was fantastic 💥 all airports should be like this 🤣😆🤣. Bravo, bravo 👏🍾🥳
Wow. I had goose pimples! What talent ! ❤️❤️❤️👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻💐💐😍
Rossini, assolutamente brillante!
Bella interpretazione!
Fabulous break from boredom....and loventhe speaker announcement for pickpockets at the end..😂! Amazing!
Now that’s a trip to remember!
I would have been in my element with this. I love opera and despise airports. What a fantastic distraction, what a voice
Ooooooo...how I love to be there that instant. Wonderful performance!!!
The joy of playing and spreading the fun of music ❤
La belle musique adoucie les mœurs. Bravo C est pas facile ce morceau d opéra 👍👏👏👏👏👏
Great way to incite people to go to see an opera
Wow, that was amazing! They brightened up everyone’s day and made them all smile. 😃
Not everyone. There was one bloke who was not impressed in the slightest. 2:16
This is the culture/music at its core. It will hit the people right in the face, when they least expect it. Splendid performance!
Bravo..!!!
God wish every airport had operal.
the ones I've been to play _Carmina Burana_ 🙁
Absolutely one of my favorite arias, just plain fun!
The Best ever what a show, I hope they all enjoyed as much as I did.
Bravo! Imagine being there for this. Here I always thought airports were the most boring places in the world. How wrong I was.
Best thing I’ve seen today!
I was about 8 when my parents took me to my first opera. (I now realize it was theirs, too. My father got free tix because he worked in radio, selling ad time.) That opera was Barber of Seville. I fell in love with opera then, and have never stopped loving it. Now, 73.
CHB ...................the Barber and Turandot got me in my late 20s !!!!!!
@@dannycalley7777 i was a supernumerary at San Francisco Opera for 2 yrs in my late 20s & was on stage very briefly with Pavarotti in Turandot which also starred Montserrat Caballe!

What a blessing to provide such joy to so many and for the many to receive it. I'll just bet stuff like this happens in heaven all the time.
Super cool
Bellissimo.. m'è venuta voglia di prendere un aereo
Thank you for this performance.
At 1:35 when he sings "attend to the wigs" and he touches the top of the head of the man wearing a wig. PERFECTION!
That man was fantastic, tfuly charming.
The joke is, Figaro didn't want to get married and so played off his identity to anyone and everyone, only to find out that he really was in love an wanted to get married. One of the best operas I've ever seen.
BRAVO to all
Wish the heck that was happening before I retired a few yrs ago, I saw 6 airports a week and such talent like that would have been so welcome!
God Bless you all and enjoy today. Today is PRESENT from The LORD, cannot do anything about yesterday nor tomorrow, so live for today and Thank HIM for your PRESENT

Magnifique !!!! Merci !!
Fantastic! Thanks Opera Vision. A lovely gift.
Fantastic!❤️
Wonderful music and singing voice ❤❤❤👏👏👏👏
Lacklustre audience, I would have been whooping and shouting Bravo. I'm from the UK 🇬🇧 we love this stuff
Just because you imagine you would behave a certain way in this situation doesn't mean the audience is lackluster. You can compliment the performance without putting the audience down. Also did you even watch the video? So much joy and happiness and engagement from the audience. And that's coming from me, a Dutch person, we are renowned for engaging and cheering at live performances
@@zazazipper9331 yeah, I watched the video . . twice
I am at liberty to write any comment I choose on CZcams without your intervention or opinions. Do not attack me for alleged criticism by using blatant criticism yourself. It's simply too ironic.
@@joethelion6016 So let me get this straight, you are allowed to criticize a whole bunch of people you don't know, but nobody is allowed to criticize you? lol. If you want to say stuff without "intervention" you should not be on the internet. And at least my critisism, unlike yours, was valid, you complete and utter dolt
Yeah, but I would have been shushing you. BTW they did a nice performance! This was in a German speaking country, I expect it’s more likely to happen there.
