Twice a year from aged 5 till i was 17 my parents took me and my brother to Morcambe, used to stay at Detron Gate Farm campsite for the 1st few years then moved to the Regency Caravan Park when we were about 14. Absolutely LOVED Frontierland, it was the highlight of our year! Used to run to get back on the Cyclone Roller Coaster ( even tho we were told not to run lol) Hours spent in the Fun House, finally picking up the courage to go down the big slide and eventually the Kamikaze one, which i always seem to bang my arse on lol Trying to see who could stay on the big spinning wheel the longest. Wondering if the bloke who operated the Ghost Train would be hiding behind the last door to scare us ! Seeing who could run through Noah's Ark the fastest! Loved every minute of it there and met some really nice people and friends. Damn shame what they done to the place. My brother i have always vowed if we won the Euro Millions we would restore it to how it was... fingers crossed ;-)

Very special memories for me - my parents brought me to Morecambe as a child, every year until I was about 16, from our home in Leicester. We arrived by train, to what is now the Platform. We stayed at the same self catering flat in West End Road....about half way up on the right hand side, just past the road on the right.....I think the flats was called Dagliesh. Same room every year, overlooking West End Road - with a view of the sea in the distance. Dad got a paper every morning from the newsagent at the bottom of the road. I remember the pier, until storms swept most of it away. I spent my money in the Alambra amusements opposite the pier. We walked to Heysham along the front on a Sunday afternoon. And i spent many hours around Frontierland - I was particularly fond of the 'stalls' at the front - especially the one where you rolled the balls into the holes to move the horses. Loved it. Revisited with my wife in around 2006 - so much has changed. But happy memories i'll cherish forever.

When I left the UK to live in Spain I had a night out in Morecambe. That was back in 1989 when the fair was in full flow. I couldn't believe my eyes when I came home in 2009 & bought my wife to the fair & it had gone. What a shame its like a completely different place. The holiday atmosphere has gone.

Used to come here a lot with my grandparents who are no longer with us and Morcambe was special to them. Me and my brother would be so excited to go to Frontier Land, we would so look forward to it. No matter how many times we rode those rides we would never get bored. Such special times in my childhood

Same with Bubbles & the go-karts. It was a great place for families & I wouldn't change my childhood memories for anything in the world. Tearing up to see what's happened to the place, I really am.

Fantastic memories of Morecambe and Frontierland, it was our main holiday for years when I was a kid in the late 70s and 80s with my Grandparents, so sad to see this, I also remember going to Marineland and the outdoor swimming pool with the wave machine! I often visit and have done thoughout my adulthood, it's a very special place to me. It would be great to see Frontierland back, and I would be first in the queue.

Hi stan. Sorry for late reply. It is such a shame to see it now. And sat for 15 years in this state. Looks like shops will be built on there. Just what we don't need. It's a seaside town and should have something for the kids to do. No wonder Morecambe is always empty now. Packed every time they have something on at weekend. They just don't get it. Thousands of people i've spoken to over this video want something for the kids not shops but we won't get a say. I am not giving up. I managed to get the roof tree pub sold with my video so you never know. I never give up. Lol. See you soon mate

I'm old enough to remember the other fairground as well. We always referred to it as "the little fair". I remember these 3 red cage rides there that I think spun you around and when it closed for good at the end of 1986 these red cages blocked the entrance at the end of what is now "dirty alley" in Morecambe.

As I write this on the 30th January 2019 there seems to be a very real chance that an offshoot of the Eden Project could be coming to Morecambe. I fervently hope that this comes to pass as there's nothing so dispiriting as reading comments on a youtube site which seem to promise something exciting about to happen only to visit it 2 or 3 years later and see that nothing of the sort has taken place. I feel that if this project is brought to fruition it could be the greatest catalyst for regeneration of Morecambe for many years. Regarding the possible retail development, perhaps the latest grim news about the wasting away of the "High Street" could actually be a good thing in this instance as it would take an optimistic outlook of unbelievable proportions for some of our retail giants to consider putting a large investment into an acknowledged run down seaside town. But let's consider the effect of something like a marine centred Eden Project being built here. First and foremost I would expect it to be an attraction which would not be reliant on a "good summer", surely it would bring people all the year round and, more importantly, they will surely be families intent on a more educational experience rather than a procession of stag and hen nights which seem to have become the blight of Blackpool. Now, if you have a greater influx of family centred visitors, surely the viability of an attractive funfair or theme park would drastically improve, particularly as it would not be as dependent on a seasonal effect. Maybe Blackpool Pleasure Beach would even wish to get involved again as it could prove to be an excellent opportunity to extend their offering and, let's be honest about this, who else could offer the levels of quality rides and attractions which they would be able to provide. Well, let's see what happens, I'm getting on in years but I'd love to live long enough to see Morecambe finally make a transition into a blueprint as the first successful English seaside town regeneration of the 21'st. Century.

It’s ran down because visitors numbers went to the floor with people taking the holidays abroad unfortunately. We went as a family a few times in early 1980s. With the (what was then new). Sun centre with indoor and outdoor pools etc, but the weather put paid to that and it ended up as a while elephant. Fingers crossed they get the Eden project which would definitely bring life back.

I met the grandma of blackpool in 1968. I was working at her mansion at the back of Garstang. I knocked on the kitchen door. An old woman in a mackintose coat answered i asked for a cup of milk to mske a cup of tea. She sait its not usual for us to give workmen milk. She said i could have half a cup. I thought i was talking to the cook when i went back to the brew cabin the lads said no that was the misses. She wanted to develope frontierland and the council said no. She ordered it to be buldozed and left fallow. For eternity. Its in her will. Her son must respect her wishes. The council must force purchase the land and build apartments like in barsaloana spain. They should make millons selling them off just like the broadway.

If they made another theme park, on a par with Blackpool Pleasure Beach, there no doubt would be more of the usual security measures theatre nonsense which involve making people go through some turnstile or having their belongings checked in case they are carrying a knife or some other excuse. Go to the U.S to visit Universal Studios and its like going through airport security. More and more big brother nonsense, and the people running these places are all too happy to allow it.

Not quite - Morecambe came under Blackpool directorship - the Thompson family for as far back as I can remember. I spent two very happy summer holidays working on Morecambe fairground in the 80's whilst still a teenager, & it was an absolute goldmine, & the same thing under reinvention as Frontierland. The Thompsons ploughed a great deal of money into it, & had great faith in it as a business. The elephant in the room was none other than Lancaster City Council, who caused no end of bother over the giant Big Wheel, for which they insisted there had to be planning permission. Geoff Thompson stood his corner all the way, but the Council were absolutely resolute - without planning permission that they were never prepared to grant, the wheel had to come down, & this being an attraction that had people flocking to Morecambe, such was its' singular popularity. They were told time & again that if the wheel came down, the fairground would be closed, & the family would take their business elsewhere...
Lancaster City Council's record over Morecambe is both shameful & despicable, for it is they that have run this beautiful old seaside resort into the ground, & nobody else, & I will never forgive them for their sins.

Such a shame to see this great footage yes like most people said morcambe does need to bring it back but there isn't as much space as there used to be as morrisons took most of the land away when the store was built etc but the polo tower aka the space tower was Brought to morcambe when it got removed to me way for the black hole walzters at the pleasure beach which are no longer there, Southport got run in to the ground the traumatizer got moved to pleasure beach and re branded as infusion. Why oh why she bulldozed the roller coaster at morcambe and Southport was beyond me. King Solomons mines got moved to Southport and then not sure where they are now the wildcat that was at morcambe got moved to Southport an is still there but the log flume boats got moved to blackpool and well as for some of the other rides I am not sure on where they went. Rather than a retail park bring back frontier land even if it's under that name as if I had the money I would bring it back as that name and well make it better than it was

It was down to Lancaster council really forcing the Pleasure beach owners hand due to them shutting down everything else bar Frontier Land

Thanks for the film. Sorry to perhaps take another view, but the trouble with the amusement park (that was) was that it was of course seasonal. For most of the year it was a closed eyesore, bar an almost always near empty pub, adding virtually no social value for local people. Just looking at your film shows the absolutely fantastic vista of the Bay, and a wonderfully wide traffic free promenade, and despite the rubbish (get it cleaned up Council for goodness sakes!), a fantastic piece of decent land overlooking both. Wouldn't it be great to combine all three aspects and make something that visitors and residents could enjoy all the year round, and I don't mean another retail park with the same stores everywhere else. Why not an all weather arrangement, under cover that can also be opened up in fairer climes, including a pool. Why not build in a lovely place to sit and enjoy the view, why not a commonly owned organic vegetable plot or two and a store selling the produce, a place to meet friends and have a decent coffee, and a mooch around a bookstore, antiques outlets, really local shops not more chains, a decent bakery for example, or a small scale brewery, places where art and dance and people from kids to pensioners can experience music making and crafts. What about a natural history dimension, with close ups of local birdlife, even a tribute to the shrimp! Why not a people friendly little museum showing how the area has developed (and was consciously under-developed by rapacious commercial interests!). This would not cost millions, but would give visitors a reason to return, and perhaps more importantly would give local people another facility to use and enjoy. The thought of abusing that view, losing a great potential land vantage point, and putting in another Pound-Stretcher seems such a waste, and I think an insult to local people, who deserve far more than what the developers think. The Council could begin by asking for ideas from local people, and listening to them. That would be an imaginative start! You could even build a miniature steam railway round the perimeter of that piece of land for those that crave an amusement park! I would be first in the Q.
