I honestly thought Chinese Geely was going to ruin Volvo. I was wrong. Geely gave Volvo all the cash they needed to build beautiful cars and didn't get in the way. Let Volvo be Volvo. This is how partnerships should work.
This Volvo has me in tears, I want one badly, it has to be one of the most beautiful cars I've ever seen and for some reason the interior reminded me of the Chrysler 200c interior, it's gorgeous and I want one even if I can't afford it.
f266101463 if you look at the interior of the beautiful 200c you will see the resemblance, but modern Chrysler's have this elegance and some kind of swag to them and this car has it in so many ways, I'm not a big Volvo fan, but I've always said Volvo's are under-rated, I hope this car changes everyone's mind, and Volvo has made some really good cars recently, the v60 polestar, the T50 and T60 and now this s90, I'm looking forward to what else Volvo can come up with.
I have always been a Volvo "enthusiast" (if you will). Both my family and I have long owned Volvo vehicles, and they've never failed to disappoint. Even under the Ford partnership/ownership, I still preferred their cars to the more popular competitors. And this? Well, simply put, is just awe inspiring. When the S90 was phased out in the late 90s or early 2000s, I was incredibly sad to see it go, but the 2017 S90/V90/XC90 all more than make up for my time without one. I really, truly cannot wait until I can bring one home myself. Cheers everyone!
As an owner if this piece of art, the only real criticism is that the ride is more performance oriented than it should be, specially in bumpy roads, but the interior and the overall economy for such a "Swedish ingot" its unbelievable, and the sound system is superb
Julian J that might be the case where you live which i still doubt because you can ALMOST get a base e class for half of the price of one of these volvos which has all the options
Compared to competition this beauty is very competitively priced. When you consider the quality and options. No way you're getting that many options by the other guys for $66K.
Man, I love the S90/V90/SC90, but I really want a Tundra too. I got a Tacoma right now - fully optioned up, but still not enough truck for me. And Texas too? I seriously wish I could move to Austin :/
well i will tell you a few things to keep in mind man, i got a tundra over the tacoma because I'm 6' 2" and that tacoma just wouldn't do. i have a double cab 4x4 5.7 TSS edition. truck is huge, its not easy to park. it may just be me but i don't even attempt to pul into a spot that has cars on either sides i always back in. the engines thirsty chief. i average about 14.7 MPG, but on highway sometimes if I'm lucky ill get 17 with the 33"s on 20"s. i have the SR5 so i don't have the fancy schmancy toys that come with the higher trims but its whatever i love i. but i will admit I've never had a tow ball in the hitch slot, I've never towed with the truck or even have anything in the bed. i have a big ass hook in the hitch. unless you can't live without it, stick with the taco bro! best of al my tundra was built in san antonio by my fellow texans. and austin!!!!?? come on now. H-Town till i die mane
Well, I'll put it this way. I only got the Tacoma because it was in my budget at the time, and I felt that I didn't necessarily _need_ a truck. After buying it, however, I quickly realized just how many uses I could get of the thing, and I found myself really wanting a Tundra. The Taco is small - I've just got the Access Cab, but I do have a longer bed, and a slight lift. Mine's a TRD Pro, so it's fairly well spec'd, but it just isn't enough. As for parking and fuel economy, I couldn't care less, I've been driving so many classic American cars that anything above 8 MPG is good enough for me. Heck, even my fairly "modern" commuter, for example, is an older 2000 Audi A6, and I average about 12-16 MPG with that (with Premium too), so that's no biggie to me. The Taco has the 4.0L, but I ended up throwing in the Supercharger too, so I usually see around 14-18 MPG, and I can hit around 20-21 MPG on longer road trips and such. It's pretty good, and it's got power, but I can't do V6s - I love V8s too much for that, and that i-Force 5.7L hits the spot just right. By the same token, I've never towed much either. I'll always be filling up the bed to the max, but towing is usually limited to summer times where we go road tripping places. But yeah, my Taco is from San Antonio too (just the way I like it)! Some of the older ones were from Cali, from what I hear. Never been there or San Antonio, but I'm glad to know it was built by American hands. Toyota makes good vehicles, and they are a Japanese brand, but since a lot of them are built here, and Canada, I'm okay with buying their vehicles. Now, I've never actually been to Houston, so I can't really speak for ya there, just Austin. Though I'm sure if I go, I'd love it there too. Texas is just an amazing place, in my opinion - but my situation has me stuck in Massachusetts right now. Between university, work, etc I can't go moving any time soon.
Eh, the snow don't bother me, just the cold - the cold is killer. I can't stand -15 being considered "normal" but what can I do? I actually really like driving in snow though, having RWD in snow conditions is just a blast! But there so many people here that just can't figure out how to drive, or how the dynamics of their cars change in inclement weather, and that's when it becomes dangerous. But man, I'd give anything to be out there right now - enjoy it man!
I feel they should expand. Keep working on the luxury line and put Volvo amongst the German brands as the car for the rich. But that they also look back a little and maybe revamp some of the older models into modern vehicles that are affordable but still reliable for the everyday man. Ofcourse, that is more easily said than done since that takes a lot of money and staff but eh, one can dream :)
I rented one of these from Sixt this weekend for a visit to California. Shocking how nice the car was, inside and out, and I drive a Mercedes. I had 3 kids in the back seat for an entire weekend, and I don't know how far back you put your driver's seat, but with me at a comfortable spot in the driver's seat, my kids had ridiculous amounts of leg room. I thought it was a special limo edition or something, it was so generous, again, compared to my E Class Benz. There were controls for the sunroof and such in the back seat, so maybe it was some Executive trim package? Plenty of power. Great techno bells and whistles like lane keeping (it would fight me a little when I tried to change lanes without signaling thinking I was drifting) and the adaptive cruise control on the 101 in LA was flawless, although the car can't see the brake lights all going on, it just keeps a steady distance to the car in front of you, even down to a stop and then restart. I mostly wrote a Comment to support the statement in the video that the interior is really REALLY nice. Way nicer than my Mercedes. Almost British in it's luxuriousness, and very high quality.
Had one for 2 days that also had autopilot & 3 Performance modes. It rekindled my interest in Volvo again haven't owned one in the past that was not reliable. Will be doing some research on consumer reports and if the results are good, this car will definitely be on my list of to-do's.
I bought my wife the XC90 Mometum plus and while it was getting a few tweaks done, Volvo of Annapolis lent me a 2017 S90 Inscription (black) to drive around for a couple of days! TFL is dead on ... I couldn't get enough stares, even had a P90D Model S driver stare that thing down and the compliments keep pouring in! If I was in the market for a sedan in the class, the S90 would be in the top 3! Now mind you, I just traded in a 2010 Subaru WRX Hatch for the wife's car ... and I'm already looking towards my next daily driver! Volvo, how about an electric or hybrid + FreeValve motor for the next S90?
Great review guys. I have always liked Volvo's, and this is a really beautiful well resolved design. Like you Roman, I have owned a few Volvo's over the years, my favourite was a V70 T6...The seats were the best of Any Car....Even better than my S class.
i definitely like the styling (and i'm picky). i agree on the part about no wasted lines. for example, toyota tends to make front ends that are just too busy. that's why i gravitate towards audi and cars like this one from volvo, which is just real nice looking.
Interior is indeed better than the A6 or 5 series and I didn't even see the new gen 5 series yet but I know they probably didn't change nothing since BMW keeps the same layout.
Leo Wan Imagine Tesla delivering its cars in less than 8 months after the order placement and before they start selling a completely new super roadster which they also can't deliver on time
The position of the key is indeed inspired by Saab. Saab used to do this because of their history in building fighter jets. It's to prevent leg injury when using the ejection seat in a jet and could also be helpful when you crash the car and your legs slide forward..
Volvo has standardized on a 2.0 liter engine. The base puts out about 250 HP, the super- and turbo-charged version puts out about 315 HP, and the top of the line, super- and turbo- and electrical motor, puts out 400 HP. HOW MUCH HP does a person need, QCetnar?
the interior on this Volvo is better than BM and Merc, Merc In Europe are the benchmark I would say, arguably has better quality feel, but the design language is that of Mafia boss's funeral casket, BM have been selling the same interior design for almost 20 years. only stopped me getting one of these is that I want an SUV.
I do not care for the rear end of this thing. I've seen it in person and have tried to like it but it's just odd to me. Design wise, interior and front end are spot on!
Hi guys. I been following your channel for quite bit and I like the reviews you guy do. I have a big question, I want to get a new car. I love the Volvo S90 and the Mercedes Benz C43. Which do you guy think is better. Right now I own a 2013 BMW 335i and I love it but is time for something newer. Thank you.
"Inscription"? Guess we got cars to look forward to coming from Volvo with trim levels like the "Volvo Sentence"....lol..amazing that this thing passed federal crash standards. The now Chinese owned Volvo seems to have done very well here I am extremely impressed. Time will tell just how reliable this boosted into another universe engine actually is.
4:40 - the lag on that touch screen would drive me bonkers. But.... my uncle bought the BMW Alaina b7 and I think this interior is even better looking. Very well done Volvo!
Such a beautiful car inside and out. I'm looking to get one this week! I'm so glad they departed from that stupid Ford partnership. Thank goodness! It's an awesome vehicle!
I used to own a 760 Turbo and S80 T6. While I like the S90 what I do hate about the new design is the lack of trim and color options. Nathan was spot on about having a dark steering wheel with wood trim - something that should be standard in this class and price bracket. My other gripe is the lack of exciting exterior colors and just these cold winter shades of blue, silver and grey. I get that Volvo is from the arctic region, but they could at least offer a dark red/burgundy in it's color palette. As for engine power, the 400HP T8 version has been promised, but still yet to be seen.
I had the same two cars, lol. I still have the s80 T6. The trim colors aren't too bad now. There's amber, maroon brown, black and blond, which is the white color. I wish they still had taupe and I liked the orange like leather they had on the previous s60. Totally agree on the exterior colors. T8 is out but I don't know if it is worth getting.
Beautiful looking car but I still can't get over the death of Volvo's classic straight-6. It's impressive what they've gotten out of that 2.0 4cyl but doesn't change the facts for me personally. I'd rather invest in a year previous polestar if we're talking those kinds of funds.
Great volvo review :) BTW when are you reviewing the new lincoln continental ?
Před 7 lety
Cool summer tires :) What does Volvo expect you to do in case of sudden change in road conditions...? After all you're in Colorado and it's December. Or did they only give it to you for an afternoon or so?
I have a '16 7 Series, and I would seriously consider getting a Polestar version of this, the car is gorgeous! In BMW land 66k will buy you a mid-range 535/540(now it's called), and the interior and the looks just don't compare. I love BMWs but dang this is good value, and its sexy!
I cant complain about the engine in the S90 because in my country the S90 T6 inscription with the B&W sound system is 2k$ more than the base MERC E200 with 180 HP with zero options so its defo the S90 to buy
much more telling, as always these stupid touch screens, when they aren't perfect. look closely at 4:41 how the screen fails to register one of his swipes. Those things drive me nuts...
The problem is the deceptive concept of "TouchScreen". These capacitive screens are Not Preasure based and noobs think its based on how hard your touch the screen. When realy its about make sure you have good contact with the surface and give it time to sense your EMR.
Actually, it's not a capacitive screen but an IR screen. Basically, there is a grid of IR lightbeams in front of the screen that get broken when something gets really close to the screen or touches it. That means you can use it with gloves on. It also definitely means that pressing hard on the screen does nothing at all.
Damn, if only a $45k car was in my budget (I don't want all the bells and whistles). This is an absolutely gorgeous car. I'd especially like the wagon. Hard to get a wagon in the US anymore and they come in very useful with better fuel economy and handling than a comparably sized SUV/CUV. I think it's hilarious that Volvos got better once Ford sold them to a Chinese company. My only concern, ever since Volvo was sold off, is long-term reliability. I can't imagine any engine that's turbo and supercharged will have great longevity.
They also dropped the boxy, outdated interior that made the 240 infamous. Volvo now makes chic cars and people talk of the boxy old 240 as something desirable. Volvo is an upmarket brand. Those that want something closer to the old Volvo can buy a Subaru. But they have some complexity in their engineering too because cars have become more complex in engineering over the years.
as Nathan and sofyan said, Nissan/infiniti pioneered alot of tech pack and safety shields but because of the brand, or doesn't get the recognotion let's say if mercedes does it. 360 around view monitor, forward collision warning and breaking for one now two cars ahead among others....
No. The T8 is better. Our XC90 T8 Inscription is fantastic. And unless my wife travels to Houston or Dallas, we put gas in it every 3 weeks or so. With solar panels on the roof, we put enough juice in it to keep our fuel and greenhouse contributions to a minimum. Plus, it's super nice to drive.
Im curious as to long term reliability with that center console a glorified Ipad controlling hvac, radio gps etc. Get back in 10 years! Beautiful car but not the kind of Volvo many of us could afford to own...back to my trusty 240!
I honestly thought Chinese Geely was going to ruin Volvo. I was wrong. Geely gave Volvo all the cash they needed to build beautiful cars and didn't get in the way. Let Volvo be Volvo. This is how partnerships should work.
Man this Volvo is so classy. Beautiful inside and out. 👍👍
This Volvo has me in tears, I want one badly, it has to be one of the most beautiful cars I've ever seen and for some reason the interior reminded me of the Chrysler 200c interior, it's gorgeous and I want one even if I can't afford it.
Chris Ramos I did get a Chrysler vibe from it
f266101463 if you look at the interior of the beautiful 200c you will see the resemblance, but modern Chrysler's have this elegance and some kind of swag to them and this car has it in so many ways, I'm not a big Volvo fan, but I've always said Volvo's are under-rated, I hope this car changes everyone's mind, and Volvo has made some really good cars recently, the v60 polestar, the T50 and T60 and now this s90, I'm looking forward to what else Volvo can come up with.
my thoughts exactly dude. Id buy this in a heartbeat.
Don't be in tears Chris, let me help you get one...I know I am for sure. Contact me via Google+ and lets talk.
@@RobertSpiller Can you help me also? Please?
I have always been a Volvo "enthusiast" (if you will). Both my family and I have long owned Volvo vehicles, and they've never failed to disappoint. Even under the Ford partnership/ownership, I still preferred their cars to the more popular competitors.

Darren Persad I agree!
Darren Persad you can thank the chinese parent company Geely for making this happen.
Darren Persad I love volvo's too I have a 244Gt!
As an owner if this piece of art, the only real criticism is that the ride is more performance oriented than it should be, specially in bumpy roads, but the interior and the overall economy for such a "Swedish ingot" its unbelievable, and the sound system is superb
❤. I would agree owning a 2020 T6
This car fully loaded with 320 HP is priced the same as an entry level merc E200 with 180 HP, so its an obvious choice
Really? Wow dude, I would def go for the Volvo and still feel happy about the choice.
Julian J that might be the case where you live which i still doubt because you can ALMOST get a base e class for half of the price of one of these volvos which has all the options
Start naming them. Tell us how they are equipped, and their price.
senevo base e class is 52k in America, not even close to half this cars price
Compared to competition this beauty is very competitively priced. When you consider the quality and options. No way you're getting that many options by the other guys for $66K.
jesus thats a hot ride. coming from a tundra driving texan! hell yeah volvo nice whip

BE CAREFUL UP IN THAT WINTER WEATHER BRO!, Im sitting on the porch right now in 71 degree weather.
Eh, the snow don't bother me, just the cold - the cold is killer. I can't stand -15 being considered "normal" but what can I do?

Agreed with that being the best interior in the class.
And in the class above. But that rear? Fugly.
Hardly anyone ever talks about the bowers and wilkins audio system that comes with s90. That would be a primary reason why I might consider an S90 😊
The safety are features also rarely mentioned. Which would be my reason....
Volvo has gone from a folkish everyman car into a serious luxury car. Expensive but rightly so.
Expensive because they are made in China for 20 bucks they gone sell to you 65.000
Captain Carter don't LIE. The NON long wheelbase is NOT made in China.
Lol the engine and rest pieces is made in Sweden, only fact is that chinese company had bought big part of Volvo :)
Compared to its competitors it isn't all that expensive-base price of 48k
I rented one of these from Sixt this weekend for a visit to California. Shocking how nice the car was, inside and out, and I drive a Mercedes. that car looks insanly good
The front looks damn aggressive with those LED lights, you do not need any sport package
Had one for 2 days that also had autopilot & 3 Performance modes.
It rekindled my interest in Volvo again haven't owned one in the past that was not reliable.
Will be doing some research on consumer reports and if the results are good, this car will definitely be on my list of to-do's.
My dad just went from an 07 XC70 to a '16 V60 Polestar
I bought my wife the XC90 Mometum plus and while it was getting a few tweaks done, Volvo of Annapolis lent me a 2017 S90 Inscription (black) to drive around for a couple of days! TFL is dead on ... I couldn't get enough stares, even had a P90D Model S driver stare that thing down and the compliments keep pouring in!

can't wait to see the day where you guys will have a million viewers
Thanks guys, Have a very merry Christmas and new year. Look forward to 2017 content.
This car is really amazing , I have to get this car now. love you Volovo
i definitely like the styling (and i'm picky). i agree on the part about no wasted lines. for example, toyota tends to make front ends that are just too busy. that's why i gravitate towards audi and cars like this one from volvo, which is just real nice looking.
Saw my first one on the road yesterday, a white one, it looks pretty good.
If the new Volvo line with this 4 cylinder engine prove to be reliable then the whole brand is back on the map of highly desirable cars.
turbo and supercharger on a 4 cylinder? how do say hell no in Swedish? it's a handsome ride through.
Interior is indeed better than the A6 or 5 series and I didn't even see the new gen 5 series yet but I know they probably didn't change nothing since BMW keeps the same layout.
Imagine tesla model 3 with interior quality of S90, its gonna be sweet
Leo Wan Imagine Tesla delivering its cars in less than 8 months after the order placement and before they start selling a completely new super roadster which they also can't deliver on time
Shout out to Roman. I also had a 96 850 turbo platinum. Still wish I didn't sell it.
The position of the key is indeed inspired by Saab. Saab used to do this because of their history in building fighter jets. It's to prevent leg injury when using the ejection seat in a jet and could also be helpful when you crash the car and your legs slide forward..
Now a turbo 6 or if we're lucky a V8 would be competing with some of the high end jaguar/ Mercedes sedans that also have v8s
Volvo said they would never do anthing more than 4 cyl ever again
well, engines like that are not the4 feature. Think about global warming :)

this would look beautifull driving in the city
I would definitely pick this or a new Lexus GS.
Id rather go for the new 2018 LS500

S90. Same engines, same interior, almost the same price.
Look at the XC90. It is near-identical inside.
If Volvo makes a polestar version of this car, that would be amazing!
I am a mechanic and I would love this car!!! I would need driving gloves for that steering wheel!
I do not care for the rear end of this thing. I've seen it in person and have tried to like it but it's just odd to me. Design wise, interior and front end are spot on!
I AGREE!!!
Good review guys, and a good car as well
Will you guys do "does nathan fit" again and will there be a 0-60 run of the S90
Definitely a nice looking car
Hi guys. I been following your channel for quite bit and I like the reviews you guy do. I have a big question, I want to get a new car. I love the Volvo S90 and the Mercedes Benz C43. Lol that's crazy I have a 328i and am looking for something else as well. Love my 328i but want something less sporty more grown
when you reach to like the video just to see that you already have than that you know it's a good video well done guys and what a car
I Have Never Liked a Volvo But This One Is Gorgeous
I love volvo cars i have V70/2000 and S70/2000 plus Cadillac XTS Very nice cars still running very good.
I just saw this car parked right next to me and it was a love first sight.

wow, beautiful.
Volvo is always a good choice!
I would have liked more specifics about the supercharged and turbocharged engine. Consumer reports hated it.

Thanks for the review! What did you think of the infotainment system. Consumer Reports slammed it for being to complicated and difficult to use.
Gorgeous car.. loving what Volvo is doing again.
Great volvo review :) BTW when are you reviewing the new lincoln continental ?
Cool summer tires :) What does Volvo expect you to do in case of sudden change in road conditions...? After all you're in Colorado and it's December. Or did they only give it to you for an afternoon or so?
I have a '16 7 Series, and I would seriously consider getting a Polestar version of this, the car is gorgeous! In BMW land 66k will buy you a mid-range 535/540(now it's called), and the interior and the looks just don't compare. I love BMWs but dang this is good value, and its sexy!
Nathan looks like he should be fronting a 80's heavy metal band.
I cant complain about the engine in the S90 because in my country the S90 T6 inscription with the B&W sound system is 2k$ more than the base MERC E200 with 180 HP with zero options so its defo the S90 to buy
nice haircut Nathan
I love the 90 series of the new Volvos 🤩
Volvo S90, the perfect car when you can't ride your Harley.
I like looking back at my Kia Optima Ex Premium after I park at work...Everyday!
Entertaining review. Thanks.
what an amazing car
Sadly Saudi Volvo dealer wasn't (marketive) enough to make these beautiful Volvos seen here :(
Value drops like a lead balloon
Damn that car is so beautiful , now I just wish someone could build one and put it on the floooooooow and have some tuck action goin
Nothing will ever beat the old v8 s8p imo
Wow.. Breathtaking!!
hows the steering? does it hug the road? reaction time? etc
That computer screen & back-up camera needs to be put into Volvo Class 8 trucks.
anyone notice how Nathan used the touchscreen? just like my dad. you don't need to poke it and be that aggressive lol.
much more telling, as always these stupid touch screens, when they aren't perfect. look closely at 4:41 how the screen fails to register one of his swipes. Those things drive me nuts...
The problem is the deceptive concept of "TouchScreen". These capacitive screens are Not Preasure based and noobs think its based on how hard your touch the screen. When realy its about make sure you have good contact with the surface and give it time to sense your EMR.
It drives me nuts when people manhandle controls in a car. Ape-like.
Actually, it's not a capacitive screen but an IR screen. Basically, there is a grid of IR lightbeams in front of the screen that get broken when something gets really close to the screen or touches it. That means you can use it with gloves on. It also definitely means that pressing hard on the screen does nothing at all.

Nice looking rear end love it!!
Absolutely Beautiful.
Swedish police has adopted the s90 after it performed the highest score on their test scale ever.
Was that tire noise when you guys were driving in it?
Nathan, you look like you belong in Amsterdam dressed like that. Nice review chaps!
Waiting for the Polstar version of the XC90. I hope they built it.
Bring back the mashup reviews!
when Volvo quitted the 240, 740 and 940 models, they forgot 2 things
a) simplicity and maintenability
b) reliability that made the 240 model famous
They also dropped the boxy, outdated interior that made the 240 infamous. Volvo now makes chic cars and people talk of the boxy old 240 as something desirable. Volvo is an upmarket brand. Those that want something closer to the old Volvo can buy a Subaru. But they have some complexity in their engineering too because cars have become more complex in engineering over the years.
When is TFL going to test some Italian Cars??? Alfa Romeos???? Maserati??? Maybe a Ferrari ??
Great looking car..except the rear end
Volvo=Luxus, better than E-class and A6/7!
That Front is Clean!!
as Nathan and sofyan said, Nissan/infiniti pioneered alot of tech pack and safety shields but because of the brand, or doesn't get the recognotion let's say if mercedes does it. 360 around view monitor, forward collision warning and breaking for one now two cars ahead among others....
Thank you
Beautiful interior
very good quality of video...
What's the names of the jazz songs they're playing at the background?
Volvo taking over the competition
what is the technology called when they could see above the car?
Plus, it's super nice to drive.
what music is playing. i love jazz and wine. and fine cars
tfl. .... i need to know what the jazz piece at 29 seconds is!!@ please..... someone....
Is the legroom on the S90 really that bad? I’d like a sedan that’s capible of hauling normal sized adults.
It's been changed since the 2018 model to best in class. The car now is a bit longer, all of it in increased legroom space.
i hope they foxed the overheating and random engine issues with these
Im curious as to long term reliability with that center console a glorified Ipad controlling hvac, radio gps etc. Get back in 10 years! Beautiful car but not the kind of Volvo many of us could afford to own...back to my trusty 240!
In a few years, maybe. These cars depreciate which makes them affordable in a few years or closer to it.
You can do the same hood movement with a lot of mercedes.
i didnt remenber that a volvo car looked so good :v
