GameSpot reviews - Big Rigs: Over the Road Racing

- Alex Navarro takes us on a perilous journey through the mess that is Big Rigs: Over the Road Racing. Its 1.0 rating, as of April 2007, is still the lowest score ever given to a game on Gamespot.
Edit 05/03/2020 - On the eve of the 14th anniversary of this gem being uploaded, I wanted to point you to a much higher quality version of this review: • GameSpot - Big Rigs: O... . When I first uploaded this in 2006, CZcams was still in its infancy and since GameSpot's own video player was a total dumpster fire, I figured why not just upload it to a superior platform? Unfortunately 240p was as good as it was going to get.
As for stats, in the 16 years since this review was first published on GameSpot, three other titles have attained the treasured 1.0 score, meaning Big Rigs is no longer alone on the Throne of Shame. It was the first one there, though! - Zábava
Ahh, the silent film era of video game reviews...
wow, video is upload 13 years ago.
😝😕🤕
@@user-mk7so9jt6e It was filmed even earlier, before CZcams, it was originally on their site (probably still is somewhere).
'03. The style of this review informed pretty much everything that came after it. A couple of years earlier, people would have expected a niche (then a niche of a niche) game to be broken. Back then, shitting on bad games was pretty much limited to big name flops like Daikatana. This was truly a milestone in a sense.
I think its 2003 footage, I believe this turd was shat out the same year.
Thumbs Up if YOU'RE WINNER

The graphics are so real, your opponents freeze in awe to admire them!
@KEVIN AMAYA-CALDERON You actually think they were serious?
I actually really like how this video doesn't say *anything whatsoever* about how bad the game is and instead just *shows* it. Why? Because what really is there to say? *Just look at it!* XD
I sense a truth in thy comment.

This is a game that bravely said "Collision detection will never catch on!"
A video game boldly made by a programmer in their freshman year of college, in a week, while drunk.
Even that would be more functional
Actions really do speak louder than words in this review. The sheer awesomeness of the game overpowered him. At the end he looks like he died and went to heaven :D
Extra fun fact: notice the throttle button is up arrow instead of W.... in a 2000's game
All I can say to the developers is "YOU'RE WINNER!"
Reminds me of a time when Gamespot was a site with actual and helpful reviews.
Oh, the good old days.... Now we have dipshits like Tom mc Shea on there.
I miss those days.
And their reviewers weren’t wannabe bloggers
I would spend hours just reading reviews of games good, bad, and mediocre just because they were all so well-written.
The Jeff Gerstmann Era before he was so much of a threat
Big Rigs has a 8 on Metacritic.
Metacritic never lies.
metacritic made 1.0 reviews into a 10 for some reason. So according to Metacritic, Alex Navarro gave this game a 10/10
Why does it have such a high score? Who in their right mind gave this game a positive review?
Psythik Metacritic scores are x/100 btw, not x/10
Asagi Asagiri 8/100.. I agree with psy.

There was Alex Navarro
The true master of Big Rigs.
The funny thing is I could make a better game in 2 days even though I only have a few months of experience in game development. I'm amazed how they could sell such an unfinished game which looks like it's been worked on for a week. It seems as if they didn't have any idea how to make games! Unbelievable...

Makes me want to play superman 64.
17 years later: Still Rigs.
Best review ever. Every video game review on the internet has been leading up to this moment. Now that it's over, what's the point of going on?
Thank you for uploading this masterpiece. I was afraid it was lost.

AVGN just did this game. Hoo boy.
It's been 6 years already? Time sure flies
Even though this one of the shittiest games ever made, You all can't lie the music is amazing.
There is no music in Big Rigs. Gamespot threw this in

There's actually no sound whatsoever in the game.

So, should I buy Big Rigs?
3 copies
Nintendorulez
I'd be surprised if even 3 copies of this game existed.
steal it
ElBarto3131 According to the devs, this "game" sold 20,000 copies.
yes
I love this kind of review for gaming. Just facial expressions. No words but you can simply tell if it's good or bad.
The creators of this game are the biggest genius’ of all time. They convinced Activision to publish this game!
Activision? I thought it was published by a company named GameMill (which also recently brought us Kong: Skull Island)
17 years went by so quick 😭
My favorite thing is they couldnt be bothered to size the timer correctly in the box that surrounds it
Glory days of GameSpot... now site itself is about as good as Big Rigs.
I'd love to know the thought processes of the guy who saw this and thought, "That'll do".
He didn’t say anything the entire vid and I know every thought that ran through his mind, honestly best review for a game I’ve ever watched.
This video somehow aged extremely well
Legendary video
The memes made this one of the most underrated games ever made.
Never lose a race again. You're always winner, with BIG RIGS
Can't believe I seen this 16 yesterday ago, I remember having tears in my eyes at his reaction to this junk
This is still one of the funniest videos i’ve ever seen and I still remember it even more than reviews I watched just last week!
This is pretty much half of Steam's content lately. "Early Access"
Why a 1.0 rating?
I see nothing wrong with this game.
Leopold Slikk Obviously you don't know innovation when you see it, name one other game that gives you the freedom to obliterate the laws of physics with a truck like Big Rigs: Over The Road Racing™

Best review ever.
This game is so good you'll want to sudoku yourself afterwards because nothing else in life will ever compare. It's so good it was rated number 1. Great review.
To developers: Was it worth it? Was selling an unfinished shit game worth it? Hopefully they didn't put this on their resume. 8 years later and 8 years from now, this will always be remembered as a terrible game. Making a "nothing special" game is waaay better than selling unfinished game. Mediocrity can be forgotten, but negligence sticks with people.
11 years, excuse me.
Well, Sergey Titov, the "lead" "designer" later worked on _"Gears of War"_ in some low-ranking position, and later went on to make _"The War Z"_ which was _slightly_ more playable than this, but made up for it by being a pay-to-win scam and was ultimately abandoned due Hollywood threatening to sue them over blatantly plagiarizing the title of _"World War Z"_
So yeah, they're pretty much going nowhere in life.
Dirty Blue Whoa, he had a role in Gears of War? How do you go from being part of production in Epic Games to making a turd like The War Z?
ccricers I guess they fired him.
Dirty Blue Also Sergey claims he didn't actually take part in the development of the game, his name was put on the credits without him knowing.
When Gamespot had integrity.
certified hood classic
And this game was more expensive than journey.
Bringing it back for AGDQ 2015
Seeing this in 2020, it's crazy to think that in 2006 they had no concept of a low-budget Steam asset flip. We were so innocent back then. We had no idea this type of game would become standard. Woe is us.
This review stand the test of time as when you look back at when this review was made, there were...REAL video game reviews back then. Not the jokey style we have with some critics now. This was raw, unique, unexpected you would ever see the real person playing the game. Its amazing.
2018 anyone?
No 2020
2024 rise of kong by same publisher said yes
This game needs to be made into a movie. That's how amazing this game is.
"YOU'RE WINNER !"
Hey don't feel bad. Remember, you're always winner.
This is my favorite video game review of all time.
The greatest review in video game history
1:15
That's what the programmers did to make this game.
It also reminds you that while it often feels like it's much easier to go backwards than it is to go forwards, that if you try you can pass through every obstacle in your path.
This is still a classic
Never lose a race again!!! You're always winner!!!
There's something adorable in that little truck going against the odds and just climbing where ever it wants...
Truly one of the games ever.
welcome to 2022
This video is still hilarious! And I wish that there is more young hungry and funny reviewers of crappy & good games on the net in the near future.

It's been more than 5 years when I saw it, but it is still funny as hell
(The review, not the game. The game was disaster lol.)
It's so bad it's actually amazing
Oh how I'm glad that this video still exists to this very day! I remember watching this all those years ago, probably back in 2006/2007 or maybe 2008 at the latest and haven't seen it again since, until now in 2013 :D I was just watching a video about 'Big Rigs Over the Road Racing' and this video came to mind again, so after searching for this game, I managed to find it right away to my surprise! xD
Ahah and still 10 years later it's here 😂 it's crazy to think 10 years ago this video was already old, I'm barely older than this video even 😂
I didnt even know that ineptitude existed on this level, but it does. And it has manifested itself with Big Rigs
"Its 1.0 rating, as of April 2007, is still the lowest score ever given to a game on Gamespot."
Ride to Hell: Retribution begs to differ.
Well, Ride to Hell came out five years later, so... How exactly does it beg to differ, again?
lol I'm buying it
Leopold Slikk There's free copies of it online.
i love how you go faster backwards than you go forwards
This is the most important game ever made. It raises questions that few others do, such as "aren't we all just racing against ourselves anyway?" and "what would the world be like without police?" and "Wouldn't it be wonderful to not have the laws of physics?" It also makes us ask metaphysical questions with a clarity reminiscent of Descartes: What can I actually know about the world around me? Can I really trust what my eyes are seeing? If you want to expand your mind and wisdom, buy this game.
Why is this now in my recommendations
2006, wow. 🤣
The game is unique, the element of surprise, danger at every turn, unexpected outcome...all in all a true gem!
you know whats the best part?
your rival never starts, he stays in the starting line, so you always win
The soundtrack to this video was good. Where is it from?
charis hoo I know this is super late, but it's actually Track 4 from BROTTR itself.
i haven't laughed that hard in a long time, if the game's purpose was to be entertaining it sure as hell accomplished it (though maybe not how it was intended) also fuck physics
They probably didn't intend to entertain at all. The devs knew exactly what they were doing. It's basically a scam.
Today's the 20th anniversary of Big Rigs, lads. To more years of being You're Winner.
Can we talk about that Windwaker Link statue in the background? That looks sick.
The ONLY good review Gamespot ever made. That says A LOT!
when gamespot was much more superior than ign. wha happun?
1. this video was uploaded in 2006, BEFORE bribing video game review sites was really that big
2. this game actually deserves a 1.0 rating.
I like the attention to detail. Especially the taillights not even attached to the vehicle.
This is where it all started.
End of an era of GiantBomb.
Giant bomb aka gamespot employees just layed on the street and gets killed off screen with 1.0 score
I'm sick to death of people saying ET on the Atari 2600 was the worst game ever. That game was made in the 1980s. so of course its not going to be exactly like the movie. Big Rigs, however, came out in the new millennium on PCs So there's no excuse.
Big Rigs didn't nearly destroy the industry, however.
Allan Hunt Neither did E.T. Pac-Man on the Atari accomplished that.
Pac-man was a bad time, but it was the following tanking of ET that delivered the death blow to Atari, which then led to the issues
Allan Hunt The only reason ET gets a bad rap was because of the hype behind the game. I wonder what fans were expecting. Consoles had limited capabilities in the 1980s. They were lucky all the other characters in that game, had more than 1 color to define who they were. Good grief, it did what it was supposed to do. The movie was about an alien who makes a freakin phone call. That's exactly what you do in the game. You build a phone, & go home. I don't know why people make such a big deal about those pits that ET falls in, either. They're not that hard to get out of.
...that's not what the movie was about at all?
And you can't expect people to expect a game using graphics from 30 years ahead. They could, on the other hand, expect a game with characters (at least a little bit) and reasonable challenges, not a game which was near-impossible and intensely frustrating and badly programmed to the point of incompressibility.
Wait, why am I even bothering?
It's the only 'review' truly fitting for something like this.
I think I understand why the name of the game is "Over the road".
Big Rigs 0/10 this very bad game ever!
Back when video game websites were actually fun and filled real people with distinctive personalities and looked like they love their jobs instead of filled with stock social justice warriors repeating the same talking points.
This is one of the best reviews ever made for one of the best games ever made.
all the devs got wrong was the fact that they got the description wrong:
you are a poltergeist in the shape of a truck stuck in limbo. you are condemned to race around against nothing forever until youre winner
