  • Had my son take off the sheet metal and pop the transmission covers off to peak inside the duel tranny's.

I just thought I would share with you that if you have leaks and you’re not running it in winter you could run 140 w oil and it being thicker it would maybe stay in a little longer I tend to use it on the steering boxes on my Ford 8N’s and if they are too leaky I use STP engine oil additive the sad part is I have the seals but I don’t have the time 😀🇨🇦

So, the tandem transmission is the same as the regular transmission on the tractor. Two of the same transmission?

Yes both trans are the same exact units (I think it's a T-95 and you can get a brand new one for the low low cost of $900+ last time i checked). There is a small drive shaft blank that fill in if it's a single trans in stead of a duel

The biggest problem with the transmissions are that the rubber dust caps rot off the shifter and water seeps down into the tranny and rusts the gears. Some folks replace the boot with a generic automotive tie-rod end cover and silicone it on to rainproof it. I believe the transmission is supposed to take 90w gear oil, filled to 1/2” below side plug. Some guys use 1/2 STP in theirs.

Nice to hear the youngster interested in mechanical things. But you are doing the hands on so maybe make him put it back together and then check to make sure all is O.K. How did you get the machine ??? The bearings on the mower deck usually freezes up for some reason. Was the machine expensive to buy ??? Nice work fella for sure. One thing, the spur gears must really make a lot of noise when the tractor is running. The known feature of spur gears. Great video for us all to see too.

He has been in the transmissions a few times as the slides are rusting so once in a while they need to be cleaned-the tractor was $600 off craigslist about a decade ago and the deck was and is OEM as far as I can tell except for the welded patches I put on after getting it. The tractor gears are not loud but it has alot of torque-if you can find a decent one at a good price but it. It very well may outlast you. thanks for watching

@@victoryfirst2878 ebay has a hand full of them-but they are pricey-I would suggest craigslist/face book market placeas it is local to you and you can look at it-if you get a decent one you won't regret it

There are pipe plugs on the side of the tranny to check levels and plugs in the bottom to drain. thanks for the comment

I bought a power king tractor don’t know what year it is someone painted over the sticker & the one by the dashboard faded but what I need to know is. My transmission has a fill plug clear on top & drain plug on the bottom. So do I fill clear to the top about one inch below or just fil to the middle. I would appreciate some info

    • @haparoundthehouse6618
      @haparoundthehouse6618  Před 3 lety

The side plug is "fill plug" and just fill til the 80/90 gear oil runs out---in other words it is fill until it dribbles out.
The bottom is simply a drain plug.
I have used STP motor treatment in the transmission too-but right now I have 80/90 in both. Once in a while one of the transmissions get 'stuck' and I have to top the top off and mess with the linkage-don't really know why other than a small piece of rust/debris gets into the slides and needs to be cleared.
Don't know what you paid, but you just bought one of the best tractors ever made. Very well built and forgiving.
You may be able to get the paint off the sticker with some heat from a hair dryer and ALOT OF PATIENCE.
Thanks for the comment and feel free to ask any questions, great tractor.

Well it’s me again ok on this transmission there’s a casting ware there should be a fill plug I looked all over the only fill plug on top over from the rubber boot on the top loader shifter & the plug has a hole in it for a breather trust me I looked all over it

@@maxgeissinger2875 Odd indeed. You can get a pump from a soap/hand cream dispenser and pump the old oil out-them fill to the old line (it should be pretty evident when you look inside the tranny). I used 80/90 to fill. If you overfill oil comes out the input/out put seals.
This will require popping the top of the tranny off (pretty easy) as there is no drain and fill holes.
Stinks that there is no useful plugs, thankfully you don't have to do this but once every ten years (if that).
