- Hey you guys! Today we jumped into a JDM Nissan S15 Silvia Spec-R imported from Japan to take it for a quick drive around some back roads. While the S15 is still illegal to import into the United States, it's day quickly is approaching, so we thought we'd give you guys a little taste of what it's like to drive. With the turbocharged SR20 under the hood producing 250hp at the crank, it's got plenty enough power and torque for this small s chassis. Enjoy!

I get quite sick of seeing Americans slam a 2JZ in quite literally everything , it's becoming both annoying and tedious
WraithDeath Well I'm from New Zealand and 2JZ silvias are very few and far between and SR is everywhere plus they sound shocking JZ the world
Travis Jones I'm from New Zealand as well and the cost of building a 2JZ is outrageous compared to both a RB and SR as you already know, we've got plenty of SR's and RB's
SR20DET's might be everywhere, but SR20VET's in particular aren't .
I've had my S15 on display at 4&Rotary and most people I spoke to had to have me explain in detail what the main differences are etc
As for noise I'd agree to a point that a SR can sound horrible, but it's mostly in the exhaust system . Stainless straight through exhausts for one sounds god damned horrible
WraithDeath SR20VETs are definitely harder to come by and a much better engine, A good manifold like Sinco makes a world of difference to their sound but not everyone can afford that so the majority of them sound pretty bad, JZ silvias are awesome but as you said very expensive over here but well worth it for the chance to be very different and it's far from a hated swap over here

Yeah, that video started out bad & just got worse and worse the further into it you got - I mean I can get past the awful styling because that is subjective - but the pod filter directly on the turbo was a little bad but easy to fix... then you find out it's bagged... worse... then you find out he's removed the 4wd... idiot totally fucked up a good car & will take a lot of time and effort to make it right again. By the end of the video I was hating hard, and I don't like being a hater - but that was some messed up shit.

There are people that dont like the SR20DET sounds??? WTF, its one of the most beautiful sounding engines of any cylinder! It just has a very bassy sound thats different from most 4 cylinders.. For NA, i'd vote for the Toyota 4A-GE or the 2ZZ-GE! I love hitting lift everyday in my XRS and hear it go from kitten to wildcat.

Tbh the r35 is a shit sports car compared to its predecessors. People think if you just make a car fast its a good car. But no cars like the s15, 240sx, s14, and the r32 weren't neccessarily incredibly fast but amazing cars because of how much they could do without horsepower. The r32 was a beast at handling corners and was had lower horsepower than most bmws and Porsches, and the silvias and 240s with there s chassis' were perfect drift cars. It showed how much enginuity went into the construction of these cars.

Matt Natad I think Nissan's age has passed or at least really slowed down. The R35 GTR has been around forever now. In the length of time the R35 has been out Nissan had released the '89 R32 and then in '99 the R34. Three generations of GTR, but the current model has been out ten years and hasn't seen any drastic changes. The 370Z is ancient at this point as well.
