  • In this video, we explain how to properly install and adjust roller rockers. We install these on a new set of TrickFlow 11R heads, which are going on a customer's SBF. The process is nearly identical for any pushrod engine. We hope you gained some knowledge out of this video and maybe the confidence to install a set yourself! If you like these "how to" videos, please let us know in the comment section down below.

    Cool video I'm 65 years old and I rebuilt my first engine when I was 12 years old I have been around cars literally all my life watching my dad and my uncle's working on their drag cars every Saturday night they were going over the cars getting them ready for racing on Sunday I was to short to see over the finder of the 55 and 57 Chevys that they had so they built a platform for me to sit on so I could watch them doing the work this way in the mid 60's and good ol'boys building their engines and things were a lot different then you always turned your engine over and got the rockers to just losing there slop as it was called then around here then start the engine and tighten the rockers just enough to take the tap out of it ran it till it was at operating temperature and then adjust each one by backing off the nut till it just started tapping and tighten till it stoped and then tighten the nut up around a half to 3 quarter of a turn and of course us a filler gauge to set them I've heard of and seen different ways of setting them but I really like the way you showed how to do it I'm getting ready to pull the heads off of my 65 Comet with a 302 with 351w heads with roller rockers I'll definitely use your method of adjusting the valves when I put it back together thank you for sharing this with us I'll be looking for more of your videos

    • @SavageProductionsCars
      @SavageProductionsCars  Před 4 lety +3

      (Edit for correction)
      Good point! On these heads, the holes don't go all the way through into the ports, and they don't go through into the coolant passages or anything, so we didn't have to use thread sealant.
      It definitely depends on which heads you have. If the threaded hole for the stud goes all the way through into the ports, then you need to use thread sealant (white permatex high temp). Otherwise, you don't need to.

    I’m thinking of buying the 190cc 11r heads, I’m debating on running a .325 intake and .338 exhaust cam lift with 1.7 rockers for a total of .550 intake and .575 exhaust to maximize the flow of those heads. The target rpm is 2700-6300 but I want redline to be 6700, will the valves and springs that come with those heads work with that or should I order them bare? That’s also given if my pistons will clear that kind of lift lol, if not then I’ve got a back up with a .500 I and .525 E valve lift that’s a bit more conservative

      Wow I can't believe Savage said you need twisted head pistons and the 190s are too big for a 302. First the TW heads have 11degree valves and that means tons of clearance between valves and pistons. Even an 86 shortblock with flat top pistons will have a lot of clearance. Second, the 190s are not too big for a 302, as all you need to ensure if that all the rest of the components match the induction and exhaust. Intake, cam and exhaust are imperative. I've seen 376rwhp and 400rwtq with a stock short block 302 with the right peripherals with the brain being the cam.
