I'm a fan of GH but I find myself disagreeing with his perspective on things a lot more recently, particularly when it comes to how goddamn sensitive he is about so many things and how seemingly unable he is to allow things to exist if they don't conform to his incredibly rigid standards (that seem to be getting more rigid by the day) and this is a perfect example of that. Dude honestly your channel is great, I'm not even someone who is particularly interested in statistics but I watch your videos all the time, they're just good. Keep it up!

I’m studying data science and have been skating since 2001, so I was so happy to find this channel that bring together two of my favorite things: Data and Skateboarding.
This channel is the perfect example of how when things aren’t forced, they’re great. Like back when I was in school I hated every subject because I was being “forced” to “learn” it, so naturally I did not want to. But when all the numbers and data are reflecting skateboarding, something I love and want to know more about, I’m all for it.
yo honest question, are u not disturbed by the fact that alot of this data makes no sense taking it out of context? for example if u have a 100% defense makes on a kickflip triple flip u would think its an easy trick, but it just turned out that it has only been attempted 1 time and has been landed 1 time, so without this context allot of data makes no sense for me no?

Focus on content and content alone is my advice. It would be "cool" to collab with Gifted Hater, but reality is he would likely not give much in return value wise to helping a smaller channel and you likely will grow more organically off of your own ideas. I honestly believe you could expand dumb data beyond skateboarding to appeal to a greater audience. If you want help or idea hit me up!

Your channel is much more than just numbers, the whit, technicality of trick explanations, personality and everything is why this is one of my favourite channels.
I liked him when he first started because it was something different that wasn't just blind "toxic positivity" but the more I watched him, the more I got the impression he's literally just some opinionated kid with not a crazy amount of life experiences. He's had some extraordinarily bad takes that really shows his age and snobbish way of viewing the world. He does still make some pretty funny videos and points so I can't fault him entirely but there's no way in hell I'd be able to stand actually hanging out or skating with the dude. It's just a matter of time before a lot of his audience or "fans" comes to this conclusion if they aren't starting to already.
the heavy amount of cynicism/irony/sarcasm has gotten a bit grating from him. his videos are good (especially when he analyzes parts), but yeah you articulated what I've been thinking as well
I’ve been saying the same thing all along. He has some horrible takes, and a self righteous attitude to go with the bad takes. I try to ignore it, because he is entertaining as a creator, even if for the wrong reasons, but good lord is attitude, and takes are such shit at times

As what I would consider an “average” skateboarder, I took AP trig, AP calculus, and AP physics in high school, my senior exit project was on the physics of skateboarding, I graduated with a physics scholarship to Berkeley, along with many more physics scholarships to other prestigious universities. And most of my friends and people I’ve met from all over the country that skateboard, are surprisingly great with numbers, and most forms of math.
I'm definitely not lol. But I'm ok. Nothing crazy. I'm a little older, in my 30's, planning on getting a degree in computer engineering which requires a lot of math.
I'm not even a big numbers guy but the extra commentary and fun facts make it better than watching the original videos. GH getting upset about the joke is pretty funny too

I was deeply intrenched in the Washington DC "core" skate scene for over ten years, and that's always what I will relate to the most, but having seen it first hand I just got to see how unwelcoming it can be at times. Personally I tried to be respectful and welcoming of anyone who was out just trying to skate and have fun, even tho I was a part of that scene. Stirring drama and controversial takes is the exclusive reason for his channel growth and clearly by mentioning another channels growth potential as if it's directly correlating to quality of content shows he's strictly in it for the numbers game, gravitating towards a dramatized, tabloid-esque caricature of skating opposed to genuine critique or analysis

GH is such a child. It's amazing (or... entirely predictable and not amazing at all?) how sensitive someone can be after building a channel entirely from *fart sound*ing on other channels/brands/skaters/etc/etc/etc... It's like the kid who throws elbows in basketball and gloats but then gets butt hurt and starts crying when he gets fouled in recess basketball.
37 year old Mechanical Engineer with a minor in math here that has been skating since I was 16. I have excel spreadsheets of every Berrics game of skate that I used to come up with, statistically, who the best skater was. I've been doing this since the start and I've always wanted to go in depth more on trick selections, but never did. Dumb Data has done a better job than I ever could and I absolutely love every aspect of it. In the past, I also went into depth about different gaps and the amount of speed and impact skaters would see to come up with, mathematically, which gaps were the tallest and longest. I even submitted my results and samples of the work to Jenkem a while back to which they replied, "that's very interesting, but I don't think a lot of skaters are interested in math.". For example, the Jeremy Wray water tower ollie of 16' would have been a world record at that time and required a speed of over 21mph and with very little run up. Compare that to Jordan Hoffart or Spencer Barton who ollied longer, but had full parking lots to accomplish the feat. Maybe that's a future idea for Dumb Data.

I really respect the amount of work you put on your videos. The concept of breaking down a sport into numbers is not new (e.g basketball or beisball) and you are applying it to skateboarding, and you got already 15k interested on your content. I actually appreciate channels like Dumb Data and whythetrick. It reinforces the philosophy of Rodney Mullen in that skateboarding can reach a higher regard in science and will continue to be respected as a culture and art form. Hell the OG is bridging the philosophical gap between the Open Source community and Skate community. Joa can be called Joa Pinkett-Smith after this moment. He also Will Smith’d himself by going on his tangent which is not surprising coming from him at this point. Objectively speaking, DD’s joke fell flat in my opinion and the collab snub shouldn’t have been taken personally either. If it ain’t in the cards, then it is what it is. But this moment exposed a fracture in Gifted Hater’s fragile armor, pride is man’s downfall.

GH is in a tight spot. He’s gotta keep hating or else he becomes irrelevant. He’s probably aware of how tenuous his popularity is. He’s carved out a very specific niche for his content and as much as he goes on about DD not being able to grow, he can’t. He’s gonna end up being the Keemstar of skating if he doesn’t learn to take the piss out of himself. People compare him to Grosso but Grosso was self aware enough to know none of it matters. GH seems to still think it matters. The vibe I get from DD is that skating is fun and there’s lots of ways to nerd out on it but I don’t think he’s convinced that knowing the landed percentage rate of 360 flips is actually important. Using your foot to wrap it isnt the POINT of the trick, it's just a key method people have found that works well to be able to actually perform the wanted action. Like back when I was in school I hated every subject because I was being “forced” to “learn” it, so naturally I did not want to. Focus on content and content alone is my advice. It would be "cool" to collab with Gifted Hater, but reality is he would likely not give much in return value wise to helping a smaller channel and you likely will grow more organically off of your own ideas. I liked him when he first started because it was something different that wasn't just blind "toxic positivity" but the more I watched him, the more I got the impression he's literally just some opinionated kid with not a crazy amount of life experiences. He's had some extraordinarily bad takes that really shows his age and snobbish way of viewing the world. He does still make some pretty funny videos and points so I can't fault him entirely but there's no way in hell I'd be able to stand actually hanging out or skating with the dude. It's just a matter of time before a lot of his audience or "fans" comes to this conclusion if they aren't starting to already.

As what I would consider an “average” skateboarder, I took AP trig, AP calculus, and AP physics in high school, my senior exit project was on the physics of skateboarding, I graduated with a physics scholarship to Berkeley, along with many more physics scholarships to other prestigious universities. And most of my friends and people I’ve met from all over the country that skateboard, are surprisingly great with numbers, and most forms of math.

37 year old Mechanical Engineer with a minor in math here that has been skating since I was 16. I have excel spreadsheets of every Berrics game of skate that I used to come up with, statistically, who the best skater was. I've been doing this since the start and I've always wanted to go in depth more on trick selections, but never did. Dumb Data has done a better job than I ever could and I absolutely love every aspect of it. In the past, I also went into depth about different gaps and the amount of speed and impact skaters would see to come up with, mathematically, which gaps were the tallest and longest. I even submitted my results and samples of the work to Jenkem a while back to which they replied, "that's very interesting, but I don't think a lot of skaters are interested in math.". For example, the Jeremy Wray water tower ollie of 16' would have been a world record at that time and required a speed of over 21mph and with very little run up. Compare that to Jordan Hoffart or Spencer Barton who ollied longer, but had full parking lots to accomplish the feat. Maybe that's a future idea for Dumb Data.

I really respect the amount of work you put on your videos. The concept of breaking down a sport into numbers is not new (e.g basketball or beisball) and you are applying it to skateboarding, and you got already 15k interested on your content.
A lot of people know that Chris Joslin or Paul Rodriguez are extremely consistent at landing tricks but if they also want to know the exact ratio of landed tricks/executed tricks, you offer that information on your vids.

I actually appreciate channels like Dumb Data and whythetrick. It reinforces the philosophy of Rodney Mullen in that skateboarding can reach a higher regard in science and will continue to be respected as a culture and art form. Hell the OG is bridging the philosophical gap between the Open Source community and Skate community.

He’s carved out a very specific niche for his content and as much as he goes on about DD not being able to grow, he can’t. He’s gonna end up being the Keemstar of skating if he doesn’t learn to take the piss out of himself. People compare him to Grosso but Grosso was self aware enough to know none of it matters. GH seems to still think it matters.
The vibe I get from DD is that skating is fun and there’s lots of ways to nerd out on it but I don’t think he’s convinced that knowing the landed percentage rate of 360 flips is actually important. GH thinks the ABD rules are somehow necessary to enjoy rolling around on a toy.

While Tyler clearly did a blatant 360 shuv here that should have been called out, the point of the "Impossible" is that the board flips vertically. Using your foot to wrap it isnt the POINT of the trick, it's just a key method people have found that works well to be able to actually perform the wanted action.
