SAN DIEGO - CIBBETS FLAT CAMPGROUND

- We are camping at Cibbets Flat Campground for a weekend. Cibbets Flat Campground is just one-hour east of San Diego and is part of the Cleveland National Forest. The campsites include a picnic table and a firepit. There are vault toilets and water is available in the campground.

Hiking, Off-Roading, and Spring Flowers
There are several hiking trails near the campground. This is a June weekend and because of the Spring rains there are wildflowers everywhere.

Along with the wildflowers, come all of the pollinators - honeybees, solitary bees, wasps, butterflies, moths, and hummingbirds. It was amazing to see all of them in one area!

Forest Road Hike
After we setup our camp we went on our first hike that followed a forest road up the mountain side. Beautiful views everywhere, this was an evening hike and we only went three miles but saw several hummingbirds and even a small rabbit along the trail.

Short 4WD Excursion
The next day we did a short $WD excursion up a different forest trail road and wound up through the mountains for miles. We stopped for a picnic, a beer, and a short drone flight.

Pacific Crest Trail
The last day we decided to hike seven miles of the Pacific Crest Trail. We followed a forest road to where the PCT crossed it and followed the trail along the mountainside for several miles. The day was hot, but it was a great hike and a great workout.

Wrap Up
This was a weekend getaway only an hour from our house. But once we were at the campground, no city lights, no traffic, and just a serene place for a weekend stay. These are some of the best adventures - low cost and near your home!
