  • Does everybody have the ability to perform good works in the sight of God? Or do we require the assistance of His grace in order to obey and please the Lord? In this message, R.C. Sproul addresses these questions by taking us back to the historic debate between Augustine and Pelagius over the extent of human freedom and man’s need for saving grace.

We are free to choose. We are not robots. We are not free from the consequences of our choices.
We have will; it is the impetus of our choices. Whether that impetus is based in slavery to our flesh or our feeble attempts to do what is right, we still have will.
The law is written in our hearts. On occasion we are motivated by our conscience to attempt what is right. Lacking power through the Holy Spirit (unless & until we are born again) we fail. We repeat this process until we do one of the following: ignore our conscience, invent useless salves (religion) to assuage our guilt, or wisely flee to Jesus.
It is God that draws us to Jesus. However, we still have choice and will.

Is grace required for the sinners salvation or just an aid to the sinner in his decision to come out of the dark and into the light?

every human is born prone to sin and under neath its yoke with as little as 1 sin on their account, freedom could only exist if humanity were to be ransomed from underneath its power and universal effect. "The Son of man came not to be served but to serve and give His life as a ransom for many".. A ransom paid for sin and by faith in this offering on the cross humanity is delivered by grace by the Creator. All thats left to do is grow towards Gods will. Some will reach a high calling of absolute devoted service and others will simply be sanctified quietly from a standing point of grace, completion by way of Gods work on the cross. On a philosophical standpoint, its perfect... Would God being perfect represent a perfect philosophy to follow?

What separates Roman Catholics and Protestants is justification. In order for God to declare a ungodly sinner just,he demand’s perfect righteousness . Both sides agree on this .now where it separates is on this . How do we get that righteousness . Rom Cath teaches an individual must have his own righteousness apart from Christs righteousness that pleases God . Prot teaches that man has no righteousness and is completely dependent on Christs righteousness alone .

@ Eden, Adam did not have the ability to be holy & righteous & and perfect.
The very fact that they coveted the fruit (Gen3:6) from the Tree of Knowledge of Good & Evil, shows that they had the full ability to do wrong @ Eden itself.
They were righteous @ Eden because the Tree of Life (Jesus) was their righteousness (just as it is today for the born-again).
