- Do you ever feel like nothing you do is good enough? Do you set impossibly high standards for yourself, only to beat yourself up when you inevitably fall short? If you relate, you might be a perfectionist.
The cognitive model of behavior helps us understand that we can overcome our perfectionism by gradually desensitizing ourselves to the very things we fear. Whether it's the fear of judgment or the fear of not meeting expectations, we can face our fears head-on and come out the other side stronger and more resilient.
Here are some simple things you can do to start exposing yourself to low-risk opportunities for growth:
- Go for a walk without a map and challenge yourself to find your way home (and have your phone on you for if you really do get lost!).
- Press 'send' on that email without reading it multiple times.
- Say ‘Yes’ before you’re ready.
- Try a new hobby or skill that you've always been interested in, but too scared to try.
These might seem like small steps, but they can have a big impact on your confidence and self-worth. Start small and slowly expand your comfort zone - you might just surprise yourself!

Sometimes bad things do happen in those situations tho. You just gotta keep pushing.
True my fear to fly / travel alone kept me stuck.
Eventually I did go to Ibiza. Got sick there, ear infection so couldnt fly back on the scheduled date. I had a new job to start on 1 September but I was not back in time.
Besides, I had doubts feeling unhappy thinkng of the new job.
I cancelled the job....maybe also bc I felt so sick and the manager asked me if i was 100 % ready to commit etc.
We agreed that it's best to not proceed
I had a trauma and had left former job. This was 4 months ago. The new job was perfect with nice pol, I think but everytime I thought of driving to that office I felt depressed.
Now I regret it but I also am telling myself to not forget I travelled alone and broke the lock in my mind. I will find an equal job again
I needed that.🥰😘😍

When there's trauma, the action actually has to take place first in the mind, before you can take action on the out-side. This means, you aren't always able to just do something that you're afraid of... for me, I had to learn to work on changing my association with swimming in the ocean or going waist level in my MIND, BEFORE I actually started going in & THEN the baby steps started happening more & more in conjunction with the prepped shift in narrative. You have to learn to re-parent yourSelf around certain traumas ie when you start thinking differently, you'll eventually do different & you can even start telling yourSelf that you are proud of the little shifts in awareness & the change in attitude & choices...
