  • Optical coherence tomography (OCT) is used increasingly in optometric practice to identify retinal pathology, to improve referral accuracy and to monitor for progression of disease. It is vital that the optometrist understands the image in front of them and knows how to describe any abnormality to another professional. Brought to you with Heidelberg Engineering Ltd, this video shows a systematic approach to interpreting the OCT, use of terminology and when to refer. We use case examples and explore what happens in the hospital setting.

    The ophthalmologist in the video often refers to 'optician', and he even says that the optician made the diagnosis of late onset Coat's. I wonder if he is actually referring to optometrists

      Juan Ding in the UK Optometrists are referred to as Opticians

    • @OptometryToday_AOP
      @OptometryToday_AOP  Před 7 lety +2

      There is sometimes some confusion about this. In the UK an optometrist is the person who performs a sight test (as defined by the GOC rules). The practice is often referred to as an Opticians. People often use optician for optometrist, although this is not the correct usage.

      Hi! I'm a student of Medical Technology, and first you should go and check your eyes, if you are diagnosed with glaucoma, it depends of which type of glaucoma you have, to choose the treatment. That treatment usually are topic eye drops, but like I said it depends. You should go and see an Ophthalmologist who can give you a proper treatment.
