Although at the time Ken Griffey Jr. told the media he wasn't upset that he was not a unanimous selection to the Baseball Hall of Fame, he admits to Shannon that it bothered him. The pair discuss the voting process to get into Cooperstown and how Griffey got overlooked by someone who cast a ballot. "That's ridiculous," adds Shannon about the slight.

In ALL SPORTS there should be more athletes and fewer journalists that have a vote. The votes of athletes should count for 67% of the weight and journalists 33% to become a HOF'er.

Shannon, you know that Dr. Z had announced publicly that as long as Kenny Stabler was alive he would not vote him into the NFL Hall of Fame. No one knew the particulars of his reasoning, but I believe it was personal, which makes Stabler's snub more grievous. We witnessed a similar situation with Terrell Owens where sports writers were more concerned with his off field antics than his stats. Unless a player commits a criminal offense, and is convicted by a court of law, or breaks the rules of their sport, nothing should interfere with being selected into the HOF. Now, for the MLB HOF, Pete Rose broke the cardinal rule in both collegiant and professional sports, which is gambling. Mark Maguire, Sammy Sosa, and Barry Bonds broke the rules of fair play by using PED's, therefore their entrance into the Hall is questionable at best, and probably never is a better assessment.
My suggestion for the HOF vote is that it is given to the players, active and recently retired; managers in baseball, and their coaches; Head coaches and their position coaches; and finally selected sports writers. This would make the selection process more equitable.
