I can confirm this works with version 1.12 and the launch of Shadow of the Erdtree. You may need to go back and rename the protected file again which I explain in the video and below but after that Ultrawide, FPS unlock, FOV adjustments all appear to be working.
Go to the Steam library location where you installed Elden Ring.
Go to steamapps > ELDEN RING > game.
Rename start_protected_game.exe to something else. (I added "_original" to the end of the file name.)
Make a copy of elden_ring.exe.
Rename this newly made copy to start_protected_game.exe.
Run the game through Steam as normal.

@@JuliusCeasqr no, its simply that flawless widescreen no longer supports this version, that's what the application itself is telling me, we'll just need to wait. sucks bcuz i called out work today.

I got the frame rates to work for the game but not widescreen unfortunately.
Genuinely baffles me that they intentionally restrict the ultrawide support, its right there, like, in the game files, and they black bar it
It's because they think its cheating for pvp reasons.
Because the moron devs think somehow having ultra wide gives you an advantage in pvp.... Like it's some kind of competitive FPS
@@jacksoncabrera7236 yeah but league and counterstrike both support ultrawide aspect ratios (not allowed in tournament play obviously). They are taking themselves way too seriously imo
@@jacksoncabrera7236 Having good internet connection is also cheating maybe? Maybe they should give everyone 200-300 ping too because some people have bad internet. Or bad computers, so yeah, some extra lag for everyone too maybe.. but let's just settle for the 200-300 extra ping. Just shoot a half second ahead and you'll fine! dodge half a second earlier too of course. But it's fair game!

Funny thing is that when I first started playing after the DLC update, the game ran flawlessly in ultrawide without any mods. After a few seconds, post processing loads in and adds the black bar.
So yes, Elden Ring does support Ultrawide. They just decided to add the black bars.

Same thing happened to me. I was so excited I thought they added ultrawide support but then it's ripped away...
Still amazed that for such a great company with outstanding games they don't seem to care about PC market by limiting fps to just 60, not adding not-so-modern or nieche features like ultra wide support and upscaling...
True that. They might have learned as their next game Armored Core 6 supported both ultra wide and unlocked fps. I'm just not expecting them to go back and change a released game.

it actually does support ultrawide, it renders the frames in ultrawide, but they put blackbars over it in post processing :) cuz fuck us
Yup. You get worse performance for using an ultrawide monitor. Might as well use the mod to see what you are rendering.

The worst part about this is that Elden Ring DOES technically support ultrawide, the game is rendering in full 21:9 but the blackbars are added on top. Insane.

As soon as I changed from Fullscreen to Borderless Window it finally worked for me
damn finally was able to get this game to work with ultrawide and damn it looks amazing on a qd oled

this method previously worked for me, however, now when I rename the eldenring exe, to start_protected_game, it changes its icon the EAC one. which also starts as soon as I boot the game. cant seem to disable it at all.

no matter what i do i get this error in FW Could not find AspectRatio injection point, Elden Ring may have updated to a version that is no longer supported.
Try restarting Elden Ring or selecting a different version and re-enable the fix.
Nice video. I tried installing the flawlesswidescreen mod but the application won't launch. It said it's due to the MSVCR100.dll file not being found. I tried reinstalling c++ packages for both x86 / x64 bit. Didn't work. I'm unsure what to do, as there is not really any information about this issue besides the reinstall of c++ packs...

hi.i have a problem.when i run flawless wide screen the core update and fws main repo which are shown on the status bar remain at 0 percent and dont countinue to download.what should i do?
It works when im in Windowed Borderless mode. However, when in Fullscreen, my refresh rate is limited to 75Hz. Also, when in Windowed mode, the text seems a bit more blurry...the overall image quality is lower than in Fullscreen. Am i doing something wrong, ideas? Tnx :)

Good explanation but you won't be able to open the eldenring.exe individually unless you rename the EAC file and do the copy eldenring.exe and rename it as start_protected_game. Steam launches automatically when you try to open eldenring.exe and it does within the start_protected_game.exe file. Hope it helps!
That's interesting. I ran it directly through the elsenring.exe at release for months offline. Wonder if it got changed at some point. I've used the rename method for awhile.

Since we can’t go online with it, I was wondering if we could play offline, complete the DLC, and then, using the same save file but this time without the mod, go back online?
Not sure this make sense since the eldering.exe launches steam eac, unless there is a way to unhook it?

I had the same problem, turns out i forgot to click "check for updates" in the flawless widescreen program
If flawless widescreen stops working after the patch make sure to go back and rename the files again. I'm told that should get it working again.

@@mikkis030It's mentioned in the video but it's this step. Needs to be redone after the game is patched as it replaces the file each time.

What does it mean if i did everything you did but when i load the game it connects to the internet? Can i just disconnect from the internet cord?
Unsure if anyone else is getting this error, hopefully someone has a solution. Anytime I try to enable the fix I get this error in the Status Window:

I've got an UltraWide and a 4090. At base the game is barely warming up and I've had to set the frame rate to 165 with max settings just to get over 90% utilisation.
Haven't touched ER in a year but now coming back to it, I gotta have wider FOV and unlocked FPS, the default makes my eyes hurt.
Will this cause issues with other anti cheats like vac for cs

I haven't encountered this issue. Is it an very old save perhaps? Does the game load without flawless widescreen running? If its an issue with the save file I know there is an app on nexus to fix save files.

After I renamed the the application "start_protected_game.exe" to "start_protected_game.exe original" , it didnt turn into a file like in the video. It was still an application. Is it dangerous to use it with that happened?
Another question. When I have to play offline, does it still save everything on the steam cloud?
I don't think it matters but when you launch the game make sure you get the prompt you are offline. Also the cloud save does work still. I use it to bounce between PC and steam deck.

for those who care, flawless ultrawide won't work if you don't replace the eac exe so no online play, and the framerate unlock only work in borderless window
They should ban people for having good internet connection too, that's clearly more of an advantage than having a bit more of screen

You should be able to go to the install directory the same way to disable EAC. Just need to navigate to the location you installed.
Anyway to still see bloodstains and messages with this mod?
I don't believe so. Bit of a trade off. If you want to play online you can always replace the exe files you changed and just don't launch the flawless widescreen app.
The FPS is limited to 60 for me even with the option checked and FPS set to 150 :(. Any ideas?
Set it to borderless windowed.

Delete your renamed elden ring.exe and take orig off the renamed protected file.

I do not get it. After all, it would be enough to choose in the game that I DON'T WANT TO PLAY ONLINE and that would make wide-screen available to me. Damage. I don't want to risk getting BAN. But I would like to enjoy the game on my 21:9 34" monitor :/
I just opened the game up today with flawless widescreen not enabled and it's running in 3440x1440 properly, did they add it overnight??

I also got a 3440x1440, and I think the patch we got today bugged out the widescreen. So, prob got to wait till the person who made the mod on the flawless widescreen updates it.
I've had this happen without the mod. The game is actually drawing the full resolution then puts up the bars. Sometimes the bars don't load for a minute and you get ultra wide briefly.
@@ThunderBob yeah it’s weird af. It was perfectly fine this morning, even with the update then BOOM. Black bars showed up randomly so.
I had 5120x1440 until the patch. Crazy that I had to download a mod just so half of my monitor is not black... I was close to getting a refund from Steam because it is unacceptable to not support ultrawides for offline non-competitive play.

No, if using this method WITH Flawless Widescreen, it only works for offline play
I followed this video to a T and am currently playing the new DLC in ultrawide mode. I think the frames are locked at 60, however.
I just tested and the FPS unlock is working for me. Make sure you have the box checked and the setting above 60 FPS in flawless widescreen app.

I heard it doesn't work in fullscreen, so you need to be in borderless to go above 60fps

Still no official ultra-wide support, bizarre :D. No online play then, I can live without it and From Soft doesn't seem to care how many people can't play online either.
I have sent a complaint letter through their support. I suggest everyone doing the same or nothing will change. This is unacceptable.
I don't think this is working correctly for me anyway at the moment, I followed your steps and my game is locked to 100fps seemingly at 60hz, if anyone has a similar issue and finds a fix let me know, thanks regardless for the video.

Thanks! I was curious if that was the problem. When the game patches it replaced the renamed binaries. I'll put a sticker comment with this tip.

That supported title list hasn't been updated in ages. Tons of games in the flawless widescreen app not on that list. They usually update the addon pretty after the game is patched and with this being such a big release my hope is it gets fixed quickly as I would love to get started tonight.
