You can't help but love someone like PJ Harvey
I think "Is this Desire" is my favourite album of hers. Something about the intimacy of it, but also the expansiveness? I know that's a pseudo-intellectual analysis but as a younger person I'd lay on m bed smoking listening to it like it was being whispered in my ear, while being transported.... "2000 miles away, lays open like a road". Ah man nostalgic now.

That’s how I listened to this! Getting high in my bed at uni, this playing not even that loud so that the dynamics are preserved.

I remember going from Stockholm to Copenhagen on a train, listening to this album on the highest volume, people giving me strange looks (because the headphones leaked sound like crazy).... But I didn't care because I was really being transported in to a different headspace.

I've always considered her my favorite female singer. She's so incredibly raw, sexy, , real, and emotionally charged....which always makes for a beautiful songwriter. This woman is so beautiful on so many levels❤❤❤❤❤

Is This Desire is such an underrated brilliant album. Some of her best work. And this song being a prime example of that.

All her stuff is underrated in the US; the Pogues led me to her and Nick in college. Late 80s, early 90s, blessed time. She's a genius, and a beautiful soul.
PJ sells out everywhere she plays in the USA....she has NEVER been underrated....perhaps you weren't there from the start....

I just listened to the demo and then this. It's really the way she orchestrates all these elements with her collaborators and distills them into something that feels elemental, but is actually complex and ingenious, that distinguishes her epic pop music. The keys in the background of that second chorus? Only Polly can drive a blade in like that.

Such a beautiful damn song
PJ is a great writer and thought provoking lyrics, I get lost in her time signatures at times. But much respect for her as an artist, and has another devoted listener that was there before.
I felt moved complete and serene while watching this video made with heart and soul. Maria Mochnacz has done a splendid work with almost nothing, and achieving something so strong and emotional without almost nothing, is a feat !.
