  • Hey house lover's and explorers! Today's video I take you for a tour through an old ghost farm on a very foggy and drizzly winter's day.
    Once a thriving sheep and wheat farm this old place is another time capsule of past farming life in South Australia. The old home did have power and looks to have been built around the early 1900 with add ons done when needed a few years later.
    Many outbuildings to see also which makes this explore a very enjoyable one so I hope you all enjoy the explore too. Don't forget to check out Werner's channel here- / @wernersadventures8330
    Cheers for watching 🙂👍

    When I was child, my family lived in an old farm house that belonged to my great grandparents in Tasmania & my grandparents lived down the road in a beautiful old Edwardian or Victorian farm house after they retired they moved to the city & my family & me moved to the mainland in 1966. A year later in 1967 both houses were destroyed in the 1967 Tasmanian bushfires.
    So I can relate to some of these beautiful old farm houses very sad they have been allowed to decay instead of being restored. Thank for sharing Paul. Really enjoy your videos & commentaries.

    Thanks, Paul! Another solidly built old gem. My limited experience with farming (used to help out on my father-in-law's property in very similar country-side in the Hindmarsh Tiers, south of Adelaide) tells me that last bit was an old shearing shed without the slatted floor for the sheep poo to drop through....Guess whose job it was to get under the shed to collect the sheep poo for the compost???🤣👍

    Grand homestead in its day, I reckon it would be around the early 1900s if not very late 1800s, notice the tuckpointing in the brickwork which would of add class to the character of the homestead, the continual roof line ending in bull nose veranda, obviously all concrete added later. The old piece of machinery was a Linkes central stripper, which stripped the head of the wheat from the plant, made in Moculta S.A, factory closed in 1933. I enjoy your videos thankyou.

    Just get 4 giant long ratchet straps with boards supporting worst areas at back and slowly tighten them according to each other and movements of stone wall, blast out all loose sand grout etc wash wall with cleaner , rinse it well and if possible have a concrete pump to blow it into all gaps , excess that passes through means a thorough job , then trowl it smooth , then wipe clean with a sponge, constantly rinse the sponge clean , until stones are clean and concrete is neatly gaped between stones, then hourly just wipe stones mainly , yet dampen concrete at same time , idea is to let concrete adjust slowly and not crack up , hope this info might help somebody achieve expert results themselves

    I don’t think they kept horses in that one building. They don’t particularly like dark places like that. Although mine would load in my trailer there was light coming in from the open door and there was a strip of grillwork around the top for ventilation. They were very hesitant to step in a building like a garage even though they trusted us.

      @kazbutler Před měsícem +6

      I was thinking the door might have swung open and closed in the wind and trapped sheep before it came off its hinges. Or maybe a sick sheep died in front of the door and blocked others in. Kitchens in these old homestead homes were often separate to the main house as they would have fires in the stoves all day, particularly if it was a working sheep station. They would probably have a copper, to heat large quantities of hot water for a laundry.

    I suspect that shed was used for storage of feed rather than horses. It’s too closed in to house horses. They wouldn’t cope being such an enclosed environment. There are no windows and the roof is too low. When horses spook, they raise their heads high. The roof being so low, they would cause themselves injury. I can say with certainty that it was not used for horses. The alternative to storing feed, it may have been used as a tack room for keeping saddles, bridles etc.
