- I thought I'd have a go at making an extended version of The Really Wild Show's original theme tune as it's one of the best kids' TV themes of all time but rather under-represented on You Tube. It's not perfect as the two videos I've used are of different encoding qualities but it's probably as good as we'll get for now!
If you object to use of your footage please inform me and I'll happily remove the video. Huge thanks to the following:
1986 titles - wildfilmhistory.org (via / putthetellyon1 )
1990 titles - dailymotion.com/centralsouth
1989 credits - Anonymous (via / putthetellyon1 )
All copyright remains BBC Bristol. - Zábava
The fact that this INSANELY funky song was used as a theme song is the wildest part to me. This song is SO FUCKING COOL
First time I heard Uptown Funk on the radio I thought Ronson had actually sampled The Really Wild Show. Awesome theme tune that still sounds great!
+Jimmylikesfuzz I had been trying to remember where I had heard those horns before and then I found an old VHS of tv from when I was a kid.
this is the actual track the show used czcams.com/video/MC5vjqyAzVQ/video.html
Those horn lines are just common motifs. Y’all can thank Quincy Jones and Earth Wind and Fire
In case anyone is wondering, the name of this song is Ellovee-Ee by Tony Sherman.
Haha, this was posted just one week ago and was there for me today when I randomly got this tune in my head. This is not the first time you've done this, Bundy! I'm keeping an EYE on you! (And thanks again :D)
DemonTomatoDave
No worries :D
***** You are literally everywhere, every video I go on...congratulations mate - you win the internet!
thanks:D
Thanks for the track name! It's a great tune!
Terry Nutkins played the trumpet on this. Little known fact.
He also holds the patent on the skullet, and anyone else wearing one has to pay him royalties!
What makes this theme so great and so memorable? It's that it strikes the right emotional chords. It builds anticipation, then chills, then bursts into excitement. The drums even emphasise when the mood changes (0:06 and 0:16). Then it finally builds all of those things to a crescendo at the end (0:45). The original title adds interest to this by promising discovery and perhaps even self-reflection. 0:37 Are you REALLY the cleverest animal?
What a funky tune!
0:46 ..."The Really Wild show will be back next Thursday at the same time, 4.30 [Squeak squeak]. Still to come this afternoon, the Blue Peter gang will be talking to pop sensations Mel & Kim in the studio, and Yvette takes a hot air balloon journey in Africa. But before that, here's John Craven with Thursday's Newsround.".
Beautiful.
I always remembered the show, but how could I have forgotten this music?!
Love it.
cause uptown funk won't give it to ya
LMAO
Don't believe me just watch! 😊
Absolute Banger
Brings back the memories
I could imagine Mark King putting some slap bass on
Brilliant JB. Probably THE best theme tune I`ve ever heard. Watched the show in the eighties, had the tune in my head, never thought I`d hear it again. Thank you JB. Can I set all and sundry the task of uploading another great theme tune from the eighties which I can`t find anywhere. Bazaar. Daytime TV, possibly linked to Pebble Mill? Fronted by, amongst others, the lovely Judi Spiers.
what an amazing tune!!!! I want a 4 minute version! :D
you got me workin, workin day and night!
How funky
Tuuune! Great show, too.
It ran for several years must’ve been popular
Cool catchy tune the best days now all gone.:(
Uptown Funk!
Tom Payne This is much better
Tom Payne no it's not
It figures - what with Ronson being a musical parasite and all. The Bregović of the west.
I just wanted to see the interlude where the lizard lifted all his legs off the sand & fell flat on his face 😔
good work!
Why did tv from 60s-90s have such catchy theme tunes and great viewing compared with the crap today. If only I had a time machine….
love this mark ronson jam
Smoother than a fresh jar of Skippy
There are parts of this that remind me of the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy TV show visually, I wonder if it was the same artist.
Damn this is a jam
Sean Keaveny They played it today (5th June) at about 9.45ish - I think it is yours as there's the same slight jump in audio quality in the middle
Uptown Funk don't give it to ye....
Mark Ronson brought me here.
The extract played on BBC6 is from you??
love it!
Have 6 Music been playing this?! when?
DON'T BELIEVE ME JUST WATCH
I just got punched in the nostalgia gut.
Which year was it?
It was over 30 years ago
Tony Sherman - Ellovee-Ee
all the similarities IS...this theme song and Uptown Funk are both FUNK music.
0:23 when you turn off Dolby noise reduction on your cassette deck.
Don't believe me just watch!
this hears so similar to Uptown Funk!!
moviemagic233 This is much better, more complex too
I was home from school
Are you still active
It lasted 20 years through
It's uptown funk by Mark ronson and bruno mars
Alex Doherty They ripped this off
I was a bad boy at home from school!
Uptown funk?
That Time I was a naughty boy!
Bruno Mars and Mark Ronson Jacked this beat lol
so who made this awesome music?
Tony Sherman, the song is called ELLOVEE-EE
Not bad at all.
Ask Daft Punk
Late 1980s
I don't know why all you guys are saying this sounds like uptown funk when it really sounds like working day and night by Michael Jackson. The bass line is exactly the same along with 4 counts of repeated rhythm with a Horn hit on the and of 4.
Michael Vu It's because all these idiots have never heard of funk before uptown funk. It's like saying Metallica sounds like Cannibal Corpse, because there are distorted guitars in it!
*Facepalms at the majority of humankind*
+Jan-Willem Evenblij Calm down oh high and mighty funk master. Having listened to that MJ song mentioned above, the Really WIld show intro sounds alot more like Uptown funk. Especially when the brass section kicks in. Get over it and yourself. The reason most people dont listen to funk is because (a) Were not not the 1970s anymore and (b) funk is crap.
*****
you really aren't a very nice person are you?
+Steve Firth Man those websites you make look horrible.
***** You make you sound horrible.
found this yesterday : mybandmarket . com/blog/2013/05/leak-daft-punk-vraiment-sauvage-voi/ check the sound below
Don’t believe me just watch
The only thing I hear similar is the style, in that there are trumpets and the beat, the melody however is different. It's not so similar that all you folks should be getting your knickers in a twist, brass is coming back in fashion and there are only so many songs that can be written without then beginning to sound the same. A new sound must be found. If anything perhaps this inspired uptown funk.
