We showed the MiniNova to a selection of high profile artists and producers on a recent tour of North America. Check out some of their reactions to the synth in this video.
MiniNova is a compact, super-cool performance synth with the same sound engine as its big brother: the UltraNova. I disagree, the support I have needed has been expertly dealt with in a reasonable time.
People have no patience these days, they expect instant gratification and solutions.
I for one will use Novation again when I need more gear.

Every parameter on the MiniNova can be edited from the hardware. The software editor provides an intuitive and accessible method for tweaking parameters during a patch edit, but please note that any setting available in the Editor is available for editing via the hardware.

You shouldn't comment when you don't know the details. I have plenty of patience, I am glad you had a good experience with them. Novation have been very timely, but the parts dept they have partnered with doesn't seem to give a damn. The first time they told me to contact American Music supply for replacement parts, I emailed several times over 6 months ago and STILL haven't gotten a reply! Instant gratification my ass! Novation makes great products but it's near impossible to get parts!
This is going to be my Christmas present to myself.

The manual is available for download. According to that, the parameter matrix has 16 fixed, and 8 assignable parameters accessible. All real editing, including assigning panel-controls, is done via a couple of menu navigation buttons and the data encoder next to the LCD-screen. Due to the complexity of the synth engine, you'll be handling more than 200 (rough estimate) parameters, 1 at a time, with that single encoder. But everything should be available through there.

Yes, the Mininova can be used on it's own. With a computer you can use the Editor software to get deeper into the parameters of the synth.

I does fit but is very tight and will put strain on the zip. We have a dedicated gig bag for Mininova in the Accessories page of our website, and available from stores.
Well, this has hopefully highlighted any concerns for future buyers and lets hope that Novation get you and the parts situation sorted out.

It does state that on their site once you start digging. But it has 18 note polyphony, mono-timbral. Just like the UltraNova which it is based on.
The Microkorg have 4 note polyphony, duo-timbral (using both layers of sound stacked will reduce functional polyphony to 2). The MK XL is 8 note polyphony and duo-timbral, so the same as above also applies to that.
Hope that's helpful for a comparison.

When the Editor arrives you will have Mininova control from within Maschine.

Wow, I didn't notice the lack of a tap tempo. SERIOUS oversight! Wonder of they'll ever come out with a full sized version of this board? The way pop music is now, I really could use a board to handle just THIS stuff in addition to my Bread and butter.

Basically i got this the other day and its so far its a great piece of kit. But the reason I bought it was use it in production and although i can power it to my computer, i cant really do much else because the editor mode hasn't been released! Anyway Im not an expert and I really need to know whether im going to be able to use this as a controller aswell as the synth, literally i just need the keys to be able to work with a DAW. Thats possible right?

You can also use the keys in Live to plat other instruments.
Any good VA will have pretty good analog sounds as well as obviously digital sounds. It's all about what you do with it, and how you do it.
No doubt Korgs MMT-engine is a nice and capable sound engine, and actually in many ways quite similar to the 1 in the new Novas. Though the Novas lack several panning features of OSCs and filters, which is a big oversight in my book.
In the end VAs all have their own sound and soul, making the choice of preference nearly as individual as with true analogs.
well, I was considering getting the Ultra Nova, but the $750 price tag was the deal breaker, with the Mini Nova (so far Novation is presenting this as having the same sound engine as the U.Nova, but smaller in size. The editor you can use as a plug in within your DAW, plus it's bus powered {you do not need a plug}, for $469 {Canadian Dollars, I did the currency conversion}) I'm going to agree with other posters and say this is a MicroKorg or R3 killer, and it will "de fang" the Venom.
how do i get the "jump" synth sound from 3.41?

what is the difference between mininova and ultranova ? and how can i use the built in sounds in ableton 9?
I'm suprised by how good the sound is on this thing, but some of the sounds are a little too digital sounding. I still prefer the Korg Radias/R3 to it though, but for that price, its magnificent.
is the mini nova completely portable? and can you plug it into the wall if ur playing at home?

How do they justify it not being fully editable with such a big screen and so many knobs and buttons? I have an akai miniak which is fully editable with like 1 knob and 2 buttons and the tinyest screen ever *it is a bitch to program*. Same synth engine as ultranova/supernova?

Yeah, checked it out last night. It's almost as bad as the MK XL. It's a real pity because the synth-engine is quite good, and the knobs and space needed to make it better is already there. It's just not well executed.
And in my book a software editor just doesn't make up for it. You don't buy hardware to fiddle with your mouse, and eventually that editor won't be updated anymore, at which point it'll stop working after a while unless you keep an old computer around for that.
No doubt that this is trashing the Microkorgs!
But judging from the frontpanel they've made the Venom/XL -error! When people buy a hardware synth, they want to be able to do a full patch edit right on the unit itself. Not too much menu diving, and no retarded halfway stuff. It's not entirely obvious which route theyve taken here, but looks like they've not done it right.
DSi Evolver, Waldorf Blofeld and the first Microkorg all show it's possible to do full edit with few knobs and no retardedness
