    I watch you for nearly every single video and I’m so glad you did the garlic abstract. I am a female and not really into cars and industrial paintings but love your technique and so I truly appreciate a lesson other than your “guy things”. Lol . I don’t know how you figure out what colors to use when I don’t see any of those in the actual set up. I really admire that.

      Huh! That's fun remark. I am into more girly things too, but resently I was following a landscape lesson from other artist and there were some cars in the reference. For the first time I was not afraid of such a subject and actually the cars came out the best on my painting 🤣

      Haha that's great feedback actually 😂
      What else would you like me to paint more of in the future? Because I will!
      Also @Aksinia - let me know 😊🙏🏼

    I love the way it came out! You did great with the loose work! I always heard that it was a garlic flower that was made up of cloves, but maybe it is different country to country? I like "teeth" better anyway!!

      Haha thank you! Yes, still not sure 😂 Someone else mention a "bulb", which makes a lot of sense to me!

  • @AMTunLimited
    @AMTunLimited Před 2 lety +1

    The "clove" is the individual bits inside, the whole thing together is a "head" of garlic.
    E.g. One head of garlic contains around 8 cloves

    Love garlic as a subject. Your intuitive choice to add the complimentary yellow popped the purple nicely. When lifting a highlight from the wet dark areas, what factors affect the degree of light value achieved? Is it timing in the process like the level of paper wetness? Is it the dark paint consistency? Is it the staining property of the pigment? Presumably, if you wanted the highlight to be yellowish and not the white paper then an under-painting of a staining yellow pigment may be the trick.

      Great questions Gail! The answer is all of the above 😉
      I find that I had to (and still have to) gain an intuitive sense of how much will lift.
      It really does depend on the wetness of paper, the wetness of brush (the drier it is - the more it'll lift), how staining the paint is, layers underneath etc.
      And I'm fine with some color inaccuracies in that regard.
      All I'm looking for is to ballpark the value (:
