"Beginning Of The End For The BBC?" Julia Hartley-Brewer Reacts To TV Licence Fee Increase

  • Julia Hartley-Brewer has slammed the BBC after the organisation revealed plans to increase their license fee payment by 9%.
The fee is currently £159 per year, and has been frozen for the last two years, but is due to increase by £15 to £173.30 in April.
Rishi Sunak's government is set to block to the increase after Culture Secretary Lucy Frazer said she was concerned a "significant rise" in the fee would add to cost of living pressures.
Julia reacts: "400,000 more people are just not buying it. They're people either trying to save cash, or they're people who will go you know what, I've had enough of this."

@@DorisDay-lw4xs They have no way to check this. It's not possible to detect a receiver and that's what a telly is.
The Beeb used to lie about this. They had vans with "Dr Who" - type antennae on top (1960s) and they said they could detect a TV and the room it was in. These vans had nothing in them. Corgi Toys made model ones.

@DorisDay-lw4xs They can knock on your door but not the right to enter. If they have seen you watching live TV or BBC iPlayer they can get a warrant and they then have the right!
They're the literal sales team, stick a no cold callers sticker on your door! If you do answer the door to them, just politely decline the service as it's not required and close the door. Don't stand there getting into conversation as they will try and trip you up with jargon and say they must check your home to see if you're receiving the broadcast. They have no right to, unless you are watching live TV and they have proof! I lost my job and I didn’t have the money to pay for the license so stopped watching live.
Was watching iplayer as it was legal at the time.
Then the BBC strong armed the government and they agrees to make the license free for over 75s but the BBC had to fund it.
      They agreed.
      Government changed the law
Then the bbc said they won’t pay for the over 75s
Once you live without it you don’t miss it.
