Incredible. I am not sure how anyone can possibly think that is bad! He didn't sentence them, he just creates a quality of life many have probably never seen before.

Excellent video and I love the conviction of the men speaking in this video - new men in Christ! @John Miller - you are correct about many people finally recognizing their need for God when everything else is finally gone. Their need for God (the triune God - the Father, the Son, the Holy Spirit), but not a need for "religion" (traditions & rules of mankind - they use the name of God, but they still make the decisions and run things and religion is always beset by the some of the worst in mankind instead of the best and holy Love of God). It's people like you who really need the pity and the prayers because it's much more difficult for you to see your need of God (again, not religion, run the other way when religion comes for you!) when you are already so blessed and comfortable. What you don't perceive is that your blessings and comfort are limited and will not benefit you after death. You also still live with many unnecessary fears because you don't trust in God to give your life direction. I know some of you are asking how you can tell the difference between seeking and finding God or ending up in some religion - same kind of questions I used to have. There are some lengthier descriptions, more theological, but here are my quick and easy identifiers. If the people talk similar to, "Oh, no, we don't dress like that because the Church teaches us not to," or "Well, our pastor (our prophet, our lady bug - sorry, the sarcasm starts . . . ) told us how to deal with that." Some of that might just be because they are repeating what they've heard in movies or from other folks, but if they are not corrected by another believer or the pastor, then it's likely religion that they are into and not God. Born again believers learn that even what the pastor teaches has to be from the Bible and therefore, God's teaching, it doesn't count if it's just the pastor's opinion, no matter what a wonderful man he seems like. You need to know that you belong to Christ, not that you belong to a church - what is that church? Is it wood and nails, brick and mortar, is it a panel of deacons who set the rules, is it beliefs that have been approved by an executive board and a vote of members? Then it's the wrong place because it's bound to be different from the church right down the street and there starts your human problems. The way that God/Christ define the CHURCH is all believers - the true church is composed of humans who have given their lives to God and having given their lives, they follow the Bible as closely as possible (no one is going to get everything right in this life, a person can be viewed as the most devout Christian and still end up committing a horrifying sin - the difference being is that person will have real heartbreak and remorse and when he goes to God, who knows his heart and mind, and asks for forgiveness, he will receive forgiveness in humility (the humility meaning that he is still aware that he is capable of horrifying sin and leans even more on God for guidance). I think this is understandable, but I also know that until a person is really ready to seek and then accept Christ as his Lord and Savior, all this pretty much sounds like nonsense - like I said, "been there, done that, over and over . . . " When the right time comes for you, all these things begin to make sense and you will recognize that you are being called in some small, quiet way. I don't know of many folks who believed that God was pounding on their door or screaming at them - that's not His personality, so pay attention to the small, quiet messages and be sure where they are coming from, then follow them if they are safe. You will get the small, quiet messages for quite awhile, but not an endless stream forever so don't continue to delay for too long. I was 40 years old when I finally burned my "Heathens Only" membership card and I've never looked back with any sort of regret. Even losing my health, losing a career that I loved, my life with God is so much better than anything I had in those first 40 years! I'd love to see everyone be able to say that, but I also believe the Bible when we're told that there will be more people who reject God than those who choose to follow Him - so sad, but it does sound like the many egotistical and self-righteous humans this world is full of.
Three strikes and your out. I would have be in for life at 18! I had three felonies at age 18. All marijuana served 2.5yrs in for it. Now they legalizing it all over. I feel betrayed. Hell they denied me parol twice as they were letting rapers and murders out on parole. People would ask me if I was in for stealing library books lol. Thank God the old timers told me how shit went on day 1 or I would have never made it out!

I just saw Music From The Big House, a documentary blues singer Rita Chiarelli was involved in, and it's crazy how totally normal some of the inmates seem. Some of them were convicted when they were 17 and now are 50+ years old, it shows how much life in prison can change a person. A lot of the inmates shown in the film enjoyed going to church and singing blues or gospel music so when they showed at the end that some of them had killed several people it shocked me.
I visited this prison yesterday as a Confirmation retreat. I can tell you that this is not modern day slavery. We visited and got to talk to the trustees who have found God. There was one man in particular. He made one mistake while both drunk and on drugs, 16 years ago. He passed around a picture of him and his daughter, who was about 4 at the time, walking on a beach. Another one was of his daughter for her graduation of high-school. He is truly a changed man. Why can't he...

These inmates aren't embellishing the nightmare Angola was before Cain's tenure. True, you could argue mandating (or inundating the inmate culture with) religion in a state-run prison is unconstitutional, but under the lens of basic human rights, it's a step in the right direction.
I know several of the guys there serving time that have been there 20+ years for something another state would let them out in 7 or less for. little too strict, possibly update the review system, yea that would be nice.
At Angola, field duty earns four cents an hour. The best jobs there (DJ, for instance) pay 20 cents an hour. But: you can only earn up to one dollar a day, up to $24 per calendar month.

Usually people going into Angola have like 30 years or more. There are other prisons in Louisiana that take people with lower sentences. Why did they send him to Angola?
I just heard that this prison exists, I'm horrified. I agree with the confinement after a fair trial, I agree with work to reintegrate the criminal but ... How bad has to be a man to force him to believe in God or if not less worthy to incentives that the other prisoners? The United States is not a secular country? Why is God everywhere?

armed robbery...my best friend at the time got 2 years, but it was at St. Gabriel because he was in the passenger seat..basically dude hopped out the car and robbed somebody at gunpoint. He may have had a record though. Glad I wasn't with them that day.

Eventually, however, the cruel reality sets in that you're NEVER going to get out, NO MATTER WHAT. But you can still greatly further your education, and/or learn a skill; thus being of service to the rest of Creation. Hence, you can make a tremendous difference for the sake of your next life, whenever and wherever that might be -- thus "changing your karma", or "changing poison into medicine". Note: education is valued just as highly in the Eternity Domain as it is here on Earth.

If a convict is trying to escape , they're normally not gonna get released any other way . When these guys get life , their mentality changes . They all of a sudden don't care anymore . I deal with these kinda inmates every day I go to work .
You know, it's ironic about academic subjects, and vocational training: in the outside world, you might not have much time to study; especially if you're working full-time, with a wife and kids to support! Here, however, you have virtually nothing BUT time; which otherwise hangs very heavy on your hands. In other words, the distractions which were so prevalent on the outside simply aren't there; and so you've got MORE than enough time to study, and even excel in those studies.
You don't mean become an inmate, do you? Your life is more tightly controlled. You do worry about what's happening tomorrow. In many systems (except for death row) able bodied prisoners have to work, and either for peanuts (8 cents an hour) or in some cases, for nothing

It often seems that religion is of far more value and worth to those who have lost everything, than to those who are far more fortunate, like myself. Me -I already have a foundation and am relatively comfortably placed in society -they don't. So, I don't need religion -but those guys featured in this video (and those like them) undoubtedly did and do.

If you think anything they've said is something he didn't allow them to say then you're probably being slightly naive. Whilst Warden Cain may be better than those that have come before him, I am doubtful that he is anything as fair and just as the people in this video are leading you to believe.

Yeah actually I think it was hilarious. I'm glad it happened to him. Its his fault my best friend had to do a 2 years in jail. He used to get us to be his get away drivers by lying to us about his plans and whereabouts. I could have easily gotten locked up to..He was a snake and its hilarious that he got 7 years.

After the same person came to my bunk 3 times in one week and he had a smirk on his face I realized they thought it was funny to harass me about God, I took offence and was forced to get violent.O.K. who got in trouble.I did 15 days in ADSEG he said I was only trying to help him, he probably got a pat on the back.Why does that come straight from hell.I dont believe in a Devil.

Its amazing that these men are able to understand what prison system should be like. it doesnt have to be all fighting and killing each other, hell thats what got them there. Thank God for the Warden and his purpose to change the way things work in Angola.
Usually people going into Angola have like 30 years or more. There are other prisons in Louisiana that take people with lower sentences. Why did they send him to Angola?
I just heard that this prison exists, I'm horrified. I agree with the confinement after a fair trial, I agree with work to reintegrate the criminal but ... How bad has to be a man to force him to believe in God or if not less worthy to incentives that the other prisoners? The United States is not a secular country? Why is God everywhere?

armed robbery...my best friend at the time got 2 years, but it was at St. Gabriel because he was in the passenger seat..basically dude hopped out the car and robbed somebody at gunpoint. He may have had a record though. Glad I wasn't with them that day.

You know it sad that we still have ignorance in the world...my husband is an inmate in this prison and i pray god has mercy on him. Everyone has a chance to be redeem from their affliction. The only difference from you and them......you just haven't got caught!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If a convict is trying to escape , they're normally not gonna get released any other way . When these guys get life , their mentality changes . They all of a sudden don't care anymore . I deal with these kinda inmates every day I go to work .
Recommendation doesn't mean its gonna happen . Most people don't even make first parole .

Your life is more tightly controlled. You do worry about what's happening tomorrow. In many systems (except for death row) able bodied prisoners have to work, and either for peanuts (8 cents an hour) or in some cases, for nothing

It often seems that religion is of far more value and worth to those who have lost everything, than to those who are far more fortunate, like myself. Me -I already have a foundation and am relatively comfortably placed in society -they don't. So, I don't need religion -but those guys featured in this video (and those like them) undoubtedly did and do.
I see in a lot of interviews with celebrities,athletes,book writer's, billionaires and so on thanking God. They seem pretty comfortable.

If you think anything they've said is something he didn't allow them to say then you're probably being slightly naive. Whilst Warden Cain may be better than those that have come before him, I am doubtful that he is anything as fair and just as the people in this video are leading you to believe.

Yeah actually I think it was hilarious. I'm glad it happened to him. Its his fault my best friend had to do a 2 years in jail. He used to get us to be his get away drivers by lying to us about his plans and whereabouts. I could have easily gotten locked up to..He was a snake and its hilarious that he got 7 years.

After the same person came to my bunk 3 times in one week and he had a smirk on his face I realized they thought it was funny to harass me about God, I took offence and was forced to get violent.O.K. who got in trouble.I did 15 days in ADSEG he said I was only trying to help him, he probably got a pat on the back.Why does that come straight from hell.I dont believe in a Devil.
