Got a 2005 Blazer..... upper control arm bushings are shot on both sides got new kits coming in the mail...i was freaking out tryin to figure out how i was going to get this job done.....You just schooled me like a Pro....thanx i needed that now im ready cant wait to get my parts.
Honestly the worst part is loosening the upper control arm nuts that hold the shims in place
i just sprayed them today with rust buster i hope that helps i sprayed every bolt...@@theman9764

I acknowledge the tremendous effort and production value.
Thanks!! It's definitely a commitment to make and edit and finish these videos
Outstanding video, very instructional.
Great job.
Thanks man!
Dan tha man, thanks again for the effort to record this repair
My 03' S10 has the same issues. This is an informative and thorough step by step video. Thanks for posting it Dan.
I've wondered if i made it too detailed
@@theman9764 no it's perfect
Definitely easier than changing ball joints and bushings!
In process of doing mine now on a 95 extended cab s10. Getting the nuts off the uppers is a pain. I ended up popping out the bolt head retainers, putting a backing wrench on the nut, and pulling the bolts.
Very good video. Getting ready to do mine.
This video was long but definitely helped in long run 👍🏼
I always try to show the little details that everyone else skips but hopefully it will help someone out
@@theman9764 yea man definitely helped me out & “saved me time”
Great video!!! Hola from Guadalajara. México 👋👋👋
Vedio very helpful 👏 👌 👍 nice work cleaned all area's that needed cleaning awesome.
Thanks sir!! I’m definitely a new 👍💯
Great explanation great video focus awesome awesome video
Seriously the shims are normal lol
Have mine apart atm and was sure the shims were some kind of short cut the last guy used.. 😁
Thanks for the vid, I probably would have left them out and been super confused when it didn't look right after I got it back together, that would have been fun 😂👍
Very good Video thank you
Exelente amigo muchas gracias
great video
Greatest video on CZcams
Thanks!
great job, period!
Thanks man!
Great video man definitely gonna use this when I replace my upper control arms on my 03 S10. Shop wanted 1K I said no thank you I’m gonna give it a shot lol
Man... great video, wish I had found it BEFORE I spent 8 hours wrestling with this on a '99 S-10. Still have the other side to do so I'm going to revisit the driver's side after seeing this video and do it again, right!
In my opinion, the passenger side sucks more because the starter is in the way
@@theman9764 oh don't tell me that...that's the side I haven't tackled yet! 😅
@@MoCo_Filmmaker sorry broski
Dayyyyumm I thought mine where bad 😮
Hey Dan the man
I have a 97 gmc Sonoma with the same problems and I had taken it to a shop near where I live they replaced my upper control arms driver and passenger sides with ball joints and new front bearings. But I’ve been noticing that in the area underneath the control arms were the spacers go they put electrical tape instead of the rubber shims is that common? Cause I’ve been hearing bad rubbing sounds coming from the front of my truck! And every time I call and tell them that I hear a rubbing sound they blow me off, and say to keep keep using it until it gets worse and then bring it in!?? Can you please give me any suggestions Sir
I'm not sure what "spacers" you're talking about, i can't think of anywhere that electrical tape could go
well i was starting to go at it, then i watched video, ughhh , and then the mosquitos set in, bolted tire back up, another day. well atleast i wd-40 some stuff.
I’m in the situation where I was driving and the upper balljoint broke, either replace the ball joint or whole control arm with ball joint
I would suggest to just replace the whole control arm simply because it'll come with new upper bushings, plus the old original one could be tweaked a little making it difficult to align
EXELENTE VIDEO. MAESTRO QUIERO PEDIRLE POR FAVOR UN VIDEO DE COMO ASER ALINEACION EN CHEVROLET S10 DIRECCIÓN IDRAULICA, SALUDOS.
Iv got an 07 Ford ranger with the same style set up how did you get the mounting bolts out I can’t manage to get a ratchet in there, can hardly get a spanner in there, just can’t seem to figure it out
Which mounting bolts are you asking about? The ones that bolt the control arms to the frame?
@@theman9764 well in the videos yours are nuts but on my car mine are the other way round but in the video you cut that bit out
@@brandonwilmot9389 here in the next week or 2 i have to replace the upper and lower ball joints in our shop truck at work and it's a ford ranger, I'll try to take a look at it and see how the control arms are bolted in
@@theman9764 no worries cheers
Just bought a pair of bump stops for less than $20.
Hey dan the man if i only want to change the upper ..i need to lose the lower arm or not🤔
You don't have to remove the lower control arm to replace the upper, it just helps with working room to remove the spindle but it's not necessary
With what tools did you unscrew the 2 bolt because I’m having a hard time taking it out. Thanks in advance
Are you talking about the 2 bolts for the upper control arm?
Yes, I’m struggling on taking off the second bolt since it’s a tight space
@@user-pk1ih7ks3l if i remember correctly, i think i just used a wrench, but i do remember it was a major pita to get to and remove, something about that rubber flapper cover also being in the way didn't help
Where can I purchase a fully assembled upper control arm for a 99 Chevy Tahoe
Have you tried Amazon or Rockauto.com?
Any idea where to order a new bump stop? Awesome video BTW
Many to choose from on rockauto.com
on upper control arms i have an 80 regal
how many shims did you install
I'm not sure, i just reinstalled all the shims back in the same place, i didn't bother asking my alignment guy if he had to move any around
Control arm aint controlling now lol they gone
Roughly how long did it take you to do this?
I don't remember exactly but if i had to do it again, I'd say probably around 5-6 hrs to do both sides including the lower ball joints and sway bar endlinks, I'm not as quick as i used to be so these repairs take me longer than normal
@@theman9764 alright bet gonna be interesting to see how mine goes cause I got a v8 in mine so hopefully those back bolts for the upper won't be to hard to get to
@@bradyshinsako i actually replaced the upper control arms on another blazer recently and this time i unbolted the steer shaft and used a bungee cord to hold it up and it made it so much easier to get the upper bolts out, wish i would've done that the first time
@@theman9764 gotcha ill keep that in mind when I do mine
Cannot for the life of me knock those mounting bolts back at all, anyone find any good techniques?
I cant get my old shims out. Nothing will budge.
Did you loosen both mounting bolts that hold the control arms to the frame? Have you soaked everything in some kind of rust penetrant spray?
Is that the AVC on control arms I've heard about lol
AVC?
@@theman9764 heheheeheheheheheh Automatic Variable Camber control arms
@@theman9764 (that don't exist by the way)
I live in the rust belt I had to cut mine out it was awful
That does not sound like a good time! Lol
@@theman9764 no it sucked your s10 looks like it’s in good shape though that’s awesome not a lot of rust
Is that a delorean I see
Yeah, it's currently the biggest headache in my life
Dude. I watched this just to see how you removed the nuts on the upper driver's side arm and you completely skipped it!
I soaked them in rust penetrant and used a wrench to remove them, it did however take quite awhile to remove the rear one if i remember correctly just because the lack of room
exactly! i wanted to see what he used, and he didn't mention bolt sizes but a few times. oh well.
