Dear Anna, thx for the humanly and well thought evaluation of the situation. I disapprove Fico's political positions and his courtesing of fascist Putin-Ruzzia - yet: violence against him is inacceptable and for sure no solution. Hearing you keeping up this standpoint emphasizes once more how right and essential it is to support your free nation and our European sisters and brothers in Ukraine. Now, to be honest - I'm a little less hopeful as to Crimea getting free and back to Ukraine soon. But - let me dare a bold opinion: Ukraine, its nation and its people is .... ABOVE that! Essential is to make Ruzzia's agression to break down. To make Putin understand, he's running into catastrophe. Few years after such event, Ruzzia as a whole breaks down - take my word. And THEN ... comes the time to restore, what legitimately should be Ukraine. But the people, the nation, and the support of you as a EU-ropean success model, is independant from Crimea! It's exclusively about you brave, talented and sincerely European people!😘
Crimea as the bases of violent attacks, needs to change. I think the Crimean Tatars also prefer to have Ukraine back there. That said, the other perspective about EU seems right.

I live in the South in the USA. We have had a large community of Czech/ Slovakians ...back in the early 90s when they split, I was having a conversation with a group of them...the only one Slovak in the group, was really happy about it. A Czech friend explained that the Slovaks were the country bumpkins of Central Europe and he added, "you watch, one day they will cry for their Communist overlords."

Well, I'll just say that in general when leaders normalize authoritarian behaviours in their own political style it emboldens authoritarians to act out more aggressively and more boldly. So, democracies should continue to denounce that kind of behaviour and promote freedom in their own countries becuase that sends a signal that democracy is still alive and well despite the messaging or propaganda it is not.

Thanks again for the update. I visited Ukraine when it was the Ukrainian ssr and again when it was free in 2013 and 2018. The streets and people changed so much in that time! Smiles, less suspicion, friendly interaction and colour on the streets versus grim communist gray. The people in Ukraine are beautiful inside and out with of course, afew exceptions,but every country has those. Can hardly wait to revisit. Слава Україні!

Heroyam slava! 💙✌💛 It is a clear sign of just how miserably depressing russia is, and how much miserable depression it is spreading across our world, even for it to fuel more distance and mistrust between every country in our shared world, is undoing *all* of the hard work each nation has done in order to build better international relationships. How dare it! And, how can those other nations not recognise that is *only* because of how russia wages wars on many nations?
And now every nation is stepping up its military situation, bolstering themselves, as a self-defence precaution. So that miserable putin is causing our world to become as austere as russia is. What a huge disrespect that is to every diplomatic in the past who has worked hard to make the world a better place for everyone - but no, instead putin is manipulatively dividing us all, their world is our world. They let him ruin it for them why? How myopic... they should be stopping outin, not appeasing putin for sh!tting on their ancestor's past efforts. How can they even show any respect for putin for ruining our international relationships... this will only end badly for them if they condone russia's actions. China didn't want another cold war, it said... well if they continue to appease putin they will get one. The laws of cause and effect.
Regarding Fico, our News channels in the UK are still awaiting to see what any motives might be for that attempted assassination on him.
Then there is the law that was passed in Georgia, and what will happen next as a reaction to that.
Clearly the general populations in many parts of the world stand strongly against dictatorships/authoritarianism. And in the modern world, it is easy to see why, when globally everyone can see the two different sides of the coin.
Some leaders in life, try to bring us closer to the God's will... others... they are obviously doing the devil's work. Calling missiles 'satan' should be the tell-tale signs of that!

Thanks for another excellent report! Here's my contribution for today towards helping Ukraine and communication about it. The word lustration is unknown to almost all English speakers, and it's pronounced like "bust", not "boost". It's better to call it purging or kicking out government employees from a previous, nondemocratic regime.
And if you get in the habit of saying "hit THE notification button", you'll also start using "the" more where it's important for communication.

A very good analysis based on ethical reasoning and democratic values. Momentum for the support of Ukraine is building up more quickly now and victory for Ukraine is now a certainty, but it has to come swiftly. We must now act with much greater urgency with our support and try to make up for past mistakes.
I agree. And weirdly, initial reports indicate that the assassin - a 71 y.o. writer - was previously linked to a far-right ultra nationalist group in Slovakia, with ties to Russia. So, why go after Fico? Or, why now? I thought he is one of them ... or is he too moderate?
(Being far-right *and* a communist is not a contradiction BTW)
Maybe Fico did not deliver 13. pension as he promised.
I think the answer to the question of communism and authoritarian regimes has to come from the people. People who need to take a stance against it regardless of the consequences. A courageous people will never be subject to communism or authoritarian regimes. They cannot control people who don't put up with their shit.

The Simperolpo civilian airlines airport has beautiful grounds with spruce and birch trees. I wish Russia had used ferry boats for the Kerch Strait crossing instead of the Kerch Strait bridge which is a really horrible looking design.
