    I fucking loved this game as a kid. What made this game my favorite NFS was the perfect mix of cars, customization, and the addition of police to spice everything up more. The story has the perfect amount of cheese and thought to make it both enjoyable and memorable. This is one of my favorite games of all time.

But at least we got to play some of the better entries during the Pioneer days. After that, we were able to buy every game in the series since. It wasn't until Paywall, I mean Payback when I decided to boycott a NFS game, because they really blew it in recent years, despite the fact they're now only giving us one every two years instead of every year like before!

    as a casual speedrunnner of this game you are right about rubberbanding and also about earl, he is the only one who is RIDICULOUSLY fast in the last 20-30% of the race and sometimes trying to block him with your car is literally the only way to win
    otherwise this game is a masterpiece imo

  • @alewis514
    @alewis514 Před 5 lety +70

    Earl is notorious for rubberbanding in this game. I had major issues with Ronnie as well. He crashed a couple of times, I had 1,7 km lead on him and he somehow managed to overtake me with crazy speed diffrence even though I wasn't making any major mistakes. These races were won by luck more often than skill.
    But rubberbanding works both ways. If you make a major mistake and get overtaken there is still a fairly large chance that you can win, unless it's like the last 10% of the race. In games without such rubberbanding...well, once you were in that situation you might as well restart the race here and now. You are not winning that, period. Even if the race had just begun.

    • @deoxysandmew2162
      @deoxysandmew2162 Před 5 lety +3

      And the worst part?!
      Earl's car statistically doesn't even make any sense. He can catch up so easily as if he is going 200mph and his car can't even reach that kind of speed.
      If you compare it to fully buffed Byron's Porsche to his car, it's a whopping joke!

    • @TotallyNotASpy1
      @TotallyNotASpy1 Před 5 lety +18

      The PC version of the game had even worse rubberbanding, you really do need to have sheer luck in order to win most races. Even though you're doing over 260 mph you're still gonna see a little Golf or an IS200 just fly past you eventually...

    Also fun fact to those who don't know:
    The BMW's stats are much lower at the intro races than when you get it back from Razor.
    I guess you could say that, Razor pumped up your ride! XD
    ...it's infuriating though that after when you make old jump bridge and continue the story in Carbon, you lose your car instantly afterwards and gets destroyed, so you can't get it back...

    Just to clarify - Earl's Sprint is the most egregious case of the Catch Up mechanic going nuts in a race and it's the primary reason why people hate Earl so much. It starts around 60% of the race done and for seemingly *no* reason, Earl will just catch up and most likely pass you by even if he's several seconds behind you. You just practically _need_ Earl to crash near the end of the race to win. It's the hardest race in the whole game, it's just dumb.

The only game that I had difficulty winning in was Midnight Club Los Angeles for some reason. Every other game was a total breeze. I never noticed too much rubberbanding going on with AI in this game, although I noticed that some of the Blacklist rivals are coded so badly that they almost always crash and get stuck.

    I think that downwards trend only started after Carbon TBH. To me Carbon is a more refined and more aesthetically pleasing NFS, because it brought back drifting, it had the Canyons (which would really get me excided) and they really managed to make the city look beautiful (I really dislike MW's yellowish, beige filter, it's really annoying and looks horrible). While yes, I think they haven't fleshed out the story as much and there wasn't as much content, I still think that it's better gameplay-wise. But MW is still very good if not better in general. I just wouldn't call Carbon a part of the downfall of NFS.

    It's a legit strategy in this game to not be in first till near the end. Rubber-banding works both ways to a certain extent and they slow down a bit, and like you said, they crash constantly.
    Once I got the corvette, my favorite car at that time, I really didn't feel the urge to play anymore. It's a chore due to the AI, both the racers and the cops, who get frustratingly dense towards the end.. They can literally overwhelm an entire road leaving you nowhere to go.
    I enjoyed Underground 2 the most because it was a good blend of everything that makes NFS fun.
    That said I grew up with Hot Pursuit and for some reason I'll always hold that one in super high regard. The tracks were fascinating, the cars were awesome, and the cops made each race intense. Sure it didn't have the open world, but it had so much style. As NFS got more trendy it got more intolerable, and my god the cutscenes in the newer ones are downright unwatchable.

And the pursuit system, although very frustrating when you get caught, but it's actually not that hard, listen carefully for certain callout of the cops and you get a advantage over them, just watch out for rhino unit and spikes, those would be the big problem. And making your car stay on higher pursuit level is actually a good thing, cuz that way you'll rank up your bounty at a faster pace.

    -don't use the speedbreaker, unless it will let you miss the spikes. It slows you down so much, that it's much better to bounce off the wall to continue racing

      Not a problem on the PC version of the game. You can turn the yellow filter off on the PC version. I have the yellow filter turned off, and I have a mod that allows me to create a custom filter. I replaced the yellow filter with a blue filter; similar to NFS Carbon. It's the NFS Most Wanted Extra Options Mod. By far, the best mod available for NFS Most Wanted. Adds so much more functionalility to the game.

      @@dustinjames1268 Yeah, NFS Most Wanted has great mod support. Even in 2018, almost 2019, the game still has mods being made for it. There's also a cool mod, that allows you to play online with other people. It's called "Most Wanted Online".

      @@PLAYER-MOST-WANTED I've been in modding for NFS Most Wanted for a little over a year and a half now. Also no, mod support is not dead. Just look at sites like NFS cars and there's still mods being posted weekly. Also, if you join any modding discord servers, you'd know that people are always releasing new mods and talking with each other to develop new mods.

    Most wanted is by far the best in the series
    Carbon was such a downgrade

    Correction about impound strikes: the permament impound is a Carbon/Undercover only thing, in Most Wanted you can pay a fee to get your car back after enough time/races have passed

  • @valentinovragovic2051

    I'll never forget when i got the pinkslip 9 times in a row in one of my many Most Wanted playthroughs

    There's one mention to Underground 2, the final race with Razor you get a message saying that you have people betting money on the race from all over including hot shots from Bayview.

    This game's story was the first in a racer to actually involke emotion from me. I remember my reaction when I lost the Beemer to Razor and how angry I was. A shame that the blackbox games are better than the newer titles.
