  • On March 5, 1942, the Seabees were founded. The AFRH-G showed this special video presentation to residents on Channel 4 to pay tribute to the birthday of the Seabees. The The NMCB in Gulfport has played a key role in the Armed Forces Retirement Home in Gulfport for many years, and we thank them for their continued support and service.

I was stationed at Port Hueneme NMCB3. Entered August 1974 and became a CE. Best mistake I have ever made in my life. I continue with the pride as an engineer in my own remodeling business called Seabee Home Services, Inc.

Dad served aboard the USS Porterfield (DD682) during Korea. As soon as he could we shipped over to the Seabees. He couldn't swim. After four tours in Vietnam, including two STAT teams, 1002 and 1003 with a year at Millington in 1964 as he healed, he retired as a Chief in 1972. As a dependant I had a great ride! Many different schools. Even left Las Vegas after Lake Mead Navy base closed in time to arrive in Long Beach Mississippi in time for Hurricane Camille. I was in a Civil Air Patrol cadet of of Kessler. I joined the National Guard in high school. Two years later joined the Marines. The Navy was my Dads woman. Thanks to him I knew how to fold skivvies and roll socks and hang shirts in the closet. He's been gone 11 years now. Oh, I learned to read with the Blue Jacket Manual.

I was CM from Gulfport,Ms. I'm proud to have been trained to work on all the equipment that I did, because I took that knowledge with me and made a career of it. I'm very blessed to have served beside a great group of people and will always remember each and every one.

Sometimes...every single darn day, I ask myself what the heck have I been doing here? Getting bullied by family and breaking my back with no appreciation. At least some are free of that and build things up instead of getting destroyed. Keep up the great work, Seabees!

My four years in the Bees impacted my entire life. I was always a Seabee in civilian clothing. I started my real work life as an 18 power lineman. I spent next 20 years as a lineman, then engineer, underground construction for 10 and ended my (38) 42 years program managing Joint Poles in California and working with AT&Ts National C&E Staff. Your time in the Seabees could/will do the same for you no matter what you do. Can Do is way of life...

I always looked at an FOB and thought "man, somebody put in the time and effort and risk to setup such fortification in such a timely manner and in such harsh conditions between combat zones amongst hostile forces. More power to them." turns out these are the guys clearing the dirt for the rest. You're doin gods work

My papa was apart of the seabees, he told me all about it, I was around 4 when he started working in pearl harbour, i remember him coming home all sweaty. When they didn’t need him anymore he decided to become a builder/constructer. So proud of my papa.

    I was a Navy Seabee.
    CBU-405 & NMCB-5
I had a wonderful experience building many things.
I gotta say though that when I was in (85-96) we did not want to look like other branches. OD Green was boring but at least we did not look like Marines.
    Happy Birthday my brothers.

My pops was a seabee frogman blowing things up in ww2.
At his funeral I found out he was part of what the navy seals would become.
He didn't tell me much about the war he told he blew things up including several war ships.
This was part of the war we don't hear much about in the west indies.
He said they wear war supply ships that was running supplies for the german wolf pack submarines and war supplies.
He also built a highway that is still quite popular on the island of Trinidad wear he was stationed and met my mother.
He was a big 6ft3 of a man with hands the size of grizzly and he used them several times. He was the go to man against some marines that thought it was fun beating up sailors.
    Including the marine boxing champion.
He even whent as far to dress up as a marine officer and go into there side of the base to get one of them.
They chased him afterwards but couldn't catch him on his Indian motorcycle that he flew from Florida to the island of Trinidad in the bomb rack of a B-17 with himself hanging next to it in a hammock 😂
He said it turned into quit serious event of trying to find the sailor who put on a marine officer uniform got onto there base and beat up one of there marines and put him in the hospital.
He told me this story in the 70s he said they were probably still trying to find him. 😮
Love and miss you pops ❤

So much the same but so much different. A 12 month home port, wow. 888 I can remember command watch shore patrole duty following a daylight to dark on the job site. 48 72 hours on ,would do it again. Looks like alot more training and support than I remember. I never wanted to leave the seabees ,30 plus years later I still remember nothing of the weeks surrounding my discharge. Until 2 years ago i ran tractor and trailer over the road 52 weeks a year ,maximising my 70 hour work week ,to prove to myself worthy. The seabees were and will always be my family love you guy.
I was recently diagnosed with MS .in my medical record review ,i seems i may have been showing symptoms in my early 20s while in service and not recognized or understood. Cant blame them for that it's not their job to recognize things like that. Maybe not the rite place or time but it's out there. Love you guys

@Isaiah G. Williamson yes. The VA is treating me. This week off to a neuro surgeon. They have eliminated all other reasons for the neuropathy.. they're doing nerve biopsies ,looking for chemical exposure. Some of the spells I went through in recent years are similar to what I went through then and was assumed as alcohol abuse. Never forget the Lt. Telling me ,you boys from up in the hills learn to drink when your little fellows and I'm going to fix it before it becomes a problem before I was sent to ARC at San Diego. Then the rest of my time every day, off to operation golden flow,, take all the meds then he glove up and probe my mouth to make sure it went down. My folder says a valum overdose but I never had access or controle of my meds.,as cause for the 9 days in the hospital. I was sent to long beach months before for EEG and other tests but when I got there there was a message for the driver to bring me back to command and none of it was ever done. It's taken alot of years to talk about it all. The truck kept me buisy and isolated where I wanted to be. It wasn't easy,, numerous times legs give out and fall on the steps getting in or out.. always exhausted no matter how much rest or sleep in the drivers seat because I physically couldn't get out of it. Prying my fingers off the wheel when my hand locked on. Now I hide on my little 6 acre homestead.. it took me 10 months to build my 14 by 30 quail barn. My 30 by 36 pole barn is under roof, at my pace I figure another 10 months on that. Hope to tear down and refurbish one of the farmall Cubs that I keep my acre garden with. Alot of time on hands and knees and laying down in the isles while doing the hand work. When I am able to go I go as hard as I can. In the physically down time, scowering adds on line for cheap and used material. I stock pile for months befor I build. My gf panics every time my feet leave the ground ,she knows how bad my falls are. I poi t to the can do on the wall and tell her will do. I'm broken but not useless. I still can do even if it takes me weeks ,months or years to do what I did in hour or days. hit the down button.
