- A good chef can turn any ingredient into a tasty meal. We gave Tomer and Thoralf 3 mystery cards and 30 minutes in a game store to build a spicy deck. MTG Goldfish or Cardmarket? Who will prevail?

Thorald looking for something to use his infinite mana on when he was just given helix pinnacle is so funny
Not to mention the card itself is a way to use infinite mana (as seen game 1)
Exactly was about to write this
And his creature is infinitely big 😂
This is such a cool video idea! Would love to see this return as a series, maybe featuring other guests or maybe just Carl pitting Thoralf and Jamin against each other!
Same!
Yes please ❤
Cool concept, unique decks, unusual cards, fun brewing, infinite reply potential. Sounds like a win to me. There's a reason iron chef had a trillion episodes. Keep it up!
Definitely keen to see more
Totally agree
I've never heard Thoralf be as upset as when he learnt this was a best out of 3 😂
Some things are just really unlucky!!! 😂 thoralf
@@CardmarketMagic Unlucky? You mean unprepared! ;) Thoralf prepared a main course without side dishes. I really hope his boyfriend (if he is in a relationship atm) is a better cook. 😂
@@de_anubis you don't eat the same meal three times in a row...
@@de_anubisHuh. Never knew he was gay. But googled him and read an awesome interview where he said he's just rather private about his personal life in general so it doesn't come up much - he doesn't avoid the subject intentionally. He comes off really well in that interview with his outlook on sexuality and life in general tbh, so thank you for saying that and accidentally making me read that interview!
@@andrewsparkes6275care to share the link? Would love to read that!
27:38 Tomer playing that Watery grave tapped with 9 mana up and an omniscience in hand *physically hurts*
Thoralf did really well for having no sideboard and facing someone who built a sideboard with his deck specifically in mind.
can’t believe that brewers kitchen isn’t the judge…
Tip for the next time? :)
The judge is battle ;)
@@CardmarketMagic can you pleasee make an ep. 2 and five phil(brewers kitchen) a Fblthp?
Kinda hard to get Phil across the pond ;)
This should be a series with a full cast, week to week eliminations and crazy master-chef style challenges !
Because Let's be honest, the food in matserchef is only a byproduct of the drama and cool challenges haha !
This one Masterchef Australia challenge really stuck with me: the contestants had to taste a bland bolognaise, and try to make it better by finding which ingredients would fit well in it.
This would easily be translated into a deckbuilding challenge with multiple people making the same deck better with one or two additions :D
And we could call it
Squee's Game
Not impossible if its really popular - thoralf
@@CardmarketMagic You could invite Cosplayers who play in Asmoranomardicadaistinaculdacar or Gyome cosplay. For the ultimate Magic deck cooking.
@@CardmarketMagicThis is a good series idea. Try it out for a few more episodes!
I could see this tying into other videos well. Trivia, guess the price, spot the change to gain a boon, a bane for an opponent during the competition, out get a secret ingredient
I really want this to be a series
Yes please! This was great entertaiment!
This is the kind of Magic content that youtube is missing. It reminds people you can play creatively and for fun. More kitchen table magic!!!
I think you guys should expand on this idea and have a master chef-style magic for the gathering series. Where you have like 10 random contestants brew decks with random ideas such as a deck that is 50 dollars or surrounded around a specific card etc. One person is eliminated an episode.
I have seen this type of master chef's style of videos work very well for various channels. I think this could bring a lot more traffic to the channel. Would probably require a lot more work and money to make but I think it would be beneficial for the card market brand.
Would be fun but they only have 3-4 players on staff + guests so it would have to be scaled down or maybe video call in the contestants who are overseas
But I love the concept or deck brewing challenges themed around cooking show cliches
That would be incredible! The person above me said this already, but it is difficult to coordinate colabs unfortunately, so for a series it would be extremely difficult :/
@@moshimeshowu747command zone or even TCC is probably the best suited to accomplish something like this since a lot of mtg personalities are in the states.
I love cardmarket though, easily my favorite between the two "peronality content" creators
This is fucking brilliant
At 18:22 the "Blood for the Blood God!" should stay in exile, "Capricious Hellraiser" copies the card and casts the copy.
Great video.
It also literally exiles itself when it resolves
The crossovers with MtG Goldfish are awesome! More please!
Tomers such a commander player he takes commander wincons to constructed
Commander is a constructed format 😉
THIS is why i still believe people can make GREAT content on youtube with budget magic cards (and other format than commander)!!!
Totally agree!
I don't get why a couple of these cards are labeled "bad". Like why the frack is that equipment called bad its ridiculously good and can easily make infinite mana / infinite power/toughness
Brewing challenges in person are so cool, I would love to see more of this!
You guys have really been flexing your creative muscles recently and I'm all for it!
Much love to Thoralf and the entire card market team! I knew Cardmarket and ordered Pokemon cards there before. Then I saw you also have a Magic section and that was my introduction into magic. I loved the artworks and that was enough to get me hooked. Without your website I probably would have never started with it. I only started 1 month ago with Arena and I found out one of my internet friends has been playing paper magic for more than 10 years. He is visiting me next week and wants to gift me a starter deck, some of his older cards and even brand new sleeves. I never played magic in person before and it's amazing hat he is so invested in giving me a good start into it. I'm still really bad in arena and without the automation it will only be worse at first. This channel has given me a lot of advice so far and I can't wait to have my first magic cards in hand and my first game. Watching you guys gave me more confidence when it comes to more complex situations. Wish me luck - I will need it :) Liebe Grüße!
Thoralf speaking "french" was a great moment
Wi wi 🤷♂️😂 - thoralf
Brilliant idea! I'd love to see this as a series. I think it could use maybe some reworks? Like I don't know that showing each player what they're up against before they build a deck is not going to lead to a bunch of silver bullets in decks. Also worried about slamming things like sol rings and crypts everywhere might make games feel samey
I agree with this. It really felt like Tomer won the match off the back of Anger of the Gods.
The 2 pools of starting cards are so imbalanced I love it lol
Wdym? Who's starting cards were better?
@@moshimeshowu747Thoralf’s, they were lower on the curve and easier to build around. Tomer’s saving grace was getting a sideboard.
@@moshimeshowu747 thoralf literally just had to shit together an elf pile while tomer had 3 unplayable bulk rares that dont synergize at all
@@ich3730 I'd argue that all of Volute, Dollhouse and Hellraiser want you to play to the yard, so URx graveyard strategies were perfectly combined.
@@Peter_Larsen Meanwhile Thoralf had half an infinite combo and a place to sink the mana into. His pile was way easier to build around.
Very very entertaining content!
I love the added “special effects” and the heavy “leaning into the gimmick”.
"What uses infinite mana?". Asked by the man with helix pinnacle in his deck
Wow, crazy good video idea. Excited to see how they play out.
Seeing that soul cauldron on thoralf's side makes me feel bad for tomer, but then again, Tomer has a sideboard
We really need more of this, definitely one of my all time favorites from the card market crew
We'll be doing this more this year :) it was really fun!
1000% shows the power of a side-board and knowing before hand what decks are in the field to prepare such in advance! That said, next time it might be better if everyone knows its best of three with side-boards after game one? But other then that, excelent video and fun challenge.
Other ideas would be brewing on a budget (i.e. 50$ or less kitchen table magic) but this was a fun video!
From the name didn't know if I'd like it, but after watching this video I love it. I normally watch a lot of cooking shows like this with my family and seeing the whole cooking show chef giving you curveball ingredients for your 60 card decks is an awesome idea. Everything about this video was awesome. Now one of my favorite styles of Cardmarket - Magic vides!
Such a fun video! Maybe a series? Brew with jank cards?
Blood for the blood god was also exiled, the dragon copies the exiled cards
true, but it gets cast so it goes to graveyard when it resolves instead of going back to exile, but also the card says “exile blood for the blood god”
@@VestigeX3The copy gets cast, not the original card, which stays in exile no matter what
Wonderful recipes, but it's your garnish of banter that makes this game appetizing.
Great content 😉
I love playing Capricious Hellraiser in Modern. One thing to keep in mind though, you cast a copy of the exiled spell, so the original stays in exile. It didn’t matter in the video, just don’t want you or your viewers to play it wrong in the future
🤓👍🏻
Very fun games!
23:10 I think he should has drawn a card, since fury is the biggest creature when it enters, nücht?
That's so coool. It reminds me of the budget decks challenges from LRR, in a great way.
Yes! When they’d rummage through the boxes at Yellow Jacket and film their build process. Those are some of my favorite MtG videos and glad to see a similar premise here
I loved this segment when it was part of the Community Cup! Thanks for showing it some more love
18:22 the card actually says, "make a copy of it, you may cast the copy" so it would have gone to exile
Blood for the blood God also exiles itself l anyways. Also, game 1 Tolf lost for failing to draw off Harmonize;)
@19:00 Watery Grave and Faithless Looting were discarded as well, but are presented as Tomer's hand. Small mistake but it was driving me nuts the whole time sorry hahaha
I thought I was going crazy. 'I'm glad you confirmed that's what happened.
@@shaneg9081 First time Tomer reads Preordain he also says "draw two" but only draws one as he should.
They also forgot the Silvala trigger at 23:13, since Fury was the highest power creature on etb
They said something about a new editor on a recent video. I'm not sure if this is another one that person did, but it's hard to find people who are amazing at both editing and rules right off the bat.
Absolutely brilliant!
Love this and could see this as a whole series.
Get all the guest on this show and make them brew around terrible cards.
Maybe give them a bit more time like 2h or so and then get them to play it out.
I imagine frank karsten vs mengu playing some terrible brews but having epic plays :D
The idea is great ❤❤❤
I love the chef costumes and the brewing cameras following the players 😂
If I may add a few ideas, here are my thoughts:
- 2 cards brew around seem to provide more flexibility
- more brewing time like one day to fill missing cards and achieve "deep" synergies (this can help create more playable decks, as well as get people to visit the card market site to buy them)
- format selection
- all players have a side board
This is fantastic! that guy in the back room just trying to work was pretty funny too lmao
Comes as absolutely no surprise that the best new MTG video format comes from this channel 😘👌
This was so much fun and I hope to see one every month! This is something I think I will show my buddies and try to do as one buddy has an entire room of magic singles and bulk from collecting cards for over 15 years.
I'd love to see one with nothing and crafting cards for a future video.
Am I missing something?
At 20:00, I think Thoralf could have used the cauldron in response to the fury to boost the kami to 4/4. Which (assuming I am not misreading Tomer's hand and he had no gaz on top of his library), would have allowed a helix win on the next turn.
I don't think that there were any creatures in the graveyard to exile to the cauldron.
Oh, missed that anger exiled. Thanks.
I love Toffel's evil grin in the thumbnail.
As an Elfball EDH player, that Umbra Mantle and Helix Pinnacle are already some of my best cards to generate infinite mana and win on the spot haha
Jup wouldn't call umbral mantle a "bad card" as it is 1 of the easiest infinite mana combo cards
@@damohebianchi3590 But it's terrible in 1v1. Too easy to disrupt.
@wafflehaxxx eh, it's still one of the tougher ones to disrupt, really. because the tap is for a mana ability, and the untap is part of the cost, your only window to interact is in response to the equip (which costs zero). otherwise they just make infinite mana in response to you trying to prevent them from making infinite mana.
I got like thirty seconds past where the cards were introduced and was like "oh, you just build a regular elves shell with Umbra Mantle and Helix Pinnacle in it." I didn't even think of Viridian Joiner. Stuff like Priest or Titania or Elvish Archdruid is easily enough, and if you don't draw your umbra mantle you can still sink that tons of mana into Joraga Warcaller or Emrakul or something.
hell, even Dubious Challenge isn't terrible in that. Your opponent chooses between... an elvish archdruid that doesn't help them, or another elf lord that doesn't help them. and you get the one they don't pick, which does help you.
Omg a Cooking show that has magic in it where both players share a deck and compete for ingredients would be amazing
Man, Thoralf got half of an infinite mana combo and a payoff for his prompt, Tomer is in trouble 😂
EDIT: Or he's going to get to 8 mana and hard cast magma opus lol. Fun games!
Yeah, what?? "Bad cards..."
And then hard cast Omniscience!
Feeling so bad for Thoralf post-sideboard :) We love Tomer!
this is definitely an incredible video format, please do more!
Here's an idea for another challenge that our local playgroup really liked: every participant gets to build a valid EDH deck that, aside from basic lands, costs no more than €25. The total cost is calculated using any deck builder -- if you can manage to make it show a total cost of €25 or less ignoring the basics, you're game. Then all participants play the decks they've built! And for extra spiciness, whoever builds the cheapest deck, gets the title of Beggar King and starts the game being a Monarch!
Honestly the best way to test players skills, I'll take this kind of matchup vs "who can go infinite first?" any day.
At 23:15 tomer should have drawn a card. TECHNICLY, the fury was the biggest creature on the battlefield which would have triggered selvalas ability. Amazing video regardless!!!
Reminds me of the LGS brewing videos from LRR where they went to a store and built budget decks with only cards that they found there.
It's a bit harder to replicate in your environment because you have soooo many cards around and there are fewer stores in europe that actually have large collections of singles.
If you're planning on doing something like this again I would suggest mechtitan core as a fun card to build around
Btw, when are we getting the card market team tokens?
Thoralf just forgot to draw three off his harmonize
This was a lot of fun, I loved the cooking-themed smack talk. These decks were pretty fun!
This is peak MtG content. All those channels out there who have enough bulk, do this. It's like a really awesome cube
"Please don't eat the cards, Thoralf" is actually an official ruling in Gatherer
Near 15:01 blood for the blood god should be exiled as a part of resolving it.
I would totally watch this type of video every day. 10/10 idea.
Thoralf made me do it.
"Thanks Tomer, I don't like Canada but I like you"
Now this is Kitchen Table Magic!
At 27:36 why not play Omniscience??? That probably would've been the game with the cards he had in hand!
Isn't he missing 1 mana for that?
@@kosimochaosbold7544 Not if he shocked in Watery Grave, then we would have had enough and could've played his hand and drawn more cards, etc.
I was looking for this comment… he probably wasn’t even considering that hard cast was an option
Now this is a video idea I can get behind! As an avid watcher of cooking competition shows and magic player this is my jam.
Jam is a great choice of words here👌 specifically
Tomer and Thoralf actually have incredible chemistry together! Maybe my favorite duo from the cross over, though it's hard to pick just one!
This could become a great serie : 4 of each of 3 different cards, improvise a deck and duel! Love it
tomer remebering the sideboard is such character development
You still exile the "Blood for the Blood God!", but only because it says to at the end of it's resolution.
9:45 you can complain when you eat it. Brilliant thoralf . Brilliant
I was screaming at the screen when Thoralf just ignored Dubious challenge. Like... blink effects exist... they are RIGHT THERE... and suddenly you have collected company/umbra turbo in this Jank Format lol. Love the series. Want way more!
This was a lot of fun! It was a great idea that turned out well. Poor Dubious Challenge...is there any way to make that card not just awful?
Yes charming prince combo hard with it the important thing is having cards that return or flicker card to there owner. So one Emrakule and one prince if your opponent take the Emrakule you flicker it with prince.
Seth did a against the odds dubious challenge it's one of my favorite decks to this day.
This video was SOOO fun to watch. More in the future maybe? perhaps? pretty please?😄
Impressive knowledge being displayed. Knowledge of cards to find and which set to find them all in. I can barely find which box I put my rares in.
“Umbral mantle is bad”
- Laughs in CEDH
I love dubious challenge, it works really well in decks where your creatures will do basically nothing for the opponent and they need to choose between something kinda okay or giving you a bomb
Best example is enchantment decks because sure you could take something that affects auras or a constellation effect but if you aren't playing those cards you just need to pick whichever will hurt you less
0:46 tomer sporting the magic player run.
Thoralf really taking advantage of mana burn being an idea left in the forgotten ages past...
Never expected Tomer to pull the mask off and reveal he was a Khorne Berserker all along.
Fantastic concept! This would make an amazing series. Could even just the decks based on different criteria like an Iron Chef sort of scenario. Like sure, your deck contained all of the required cards . . . But how much did it make a cohesive deck based on them?
Great stuff as always!
Hear me out. Cutthroat Cardboard. You start out with a pool of cash that each player has as a budget for their decks. But before deck construction you auction off potential sabotages. "Your opponents can only use basic lands.", "Your opponent's deck must contain 80 cards.", "Your opponent can only use commons and uncommons", etc... then with the money you have remaining, you build the decks. So someone might spend half their budget but force their opponent to deckbuild with a ton of restrictions.
This was a great idea, guys :) Would love to see more like it.
Please make more of these! It was very enjoyable!
I really love this as a concept and would love to see it as a series
I think (like MasterChef) it would be cool if both players had to use the same base ingredients, i dunno how you prevent their decks from being too samey though. Maybe it's 2 card playsets instead of 3?
This is a fun idea! It would be neat to see each person get a card chosen by the Card Market team, one chosen at random and one chosen by fan vote or something. Different spins on the choosing would be interesting
Moooooore, this format is genius, don't let it be a one timer please
I find it really funny that when Thoralf says "like the brussel sprouts, they look cool, but you don't really eat them" or smth like that I was eating brussel sprouts
It's a shame they didn't gave Thoralf the cauliflower-looking forests ! :D
I liked this concept. Thank you for your content and the time that you spend making the videos. As an older MTG player (Beta to Mirrodin block) I would love to see videos where you have to build decks around two or three cards from older blocks or unglued and the rest of it exclusively type 2 (is that a thing anymore?). I think it would be cool to see the players be challenged with interactions of very old and new.
My first thought with Dubious Challenge was putting in a cheeky 1 of Flickerwisp and Emralul (each). Emralul even works with the infinite mana! Oh Thoralf! That would have been so cheeky and fun!
So may puns! I laughed sincerely so many times =D
This is the new best video series on this channel. This is so good.
What a fun show. It's nice to see tomer playing other formats too and seemingly enjoying himself. Lets see some more of this!
Dude the professor from tolarian community college would suit this series really well
I love this idea.
I've thought about something in the same vein, where you're given a random commander AND a random theme to build a commander deck from. Randomness means you might get some awesome combination of commander and theme, but you might also end up with something completely stupid like Xenagos, God of Revels as your commander and "oops, all spells" as your theme.
... spells that make big tokens?
I mean, you can't actually play "oops, all spells" in xenagos edh because it's a very specific combo deck... and several key pieces are out of your color identity (balustrade spy, undercity informer, your win conditions)... but you could do just an instants/sorceries heavy deck.
Wurmcalling seems great here :p
and red has plenty of payoffs for casting instants and sorceries.
@@someguy1ification
> I mean, you can't actually play "oops, all spells" in xenagos edh because it's a very specific combo deck
There's your problem.
The entire point is to get away from "you have to play it that way" and into new games.
Loved the friendly trash talk
Thanks for the great vid! Seeing Tomer play a different format is refreshing and these innovative deckbuilding episodes are great palate cleansers for my commander tired tongue.
I made an infinite combo deck with Stone-Seeder Hierophant and Umbral Mantle once. It put Overgrowths on a land and then used Rhys the Redeemed to power out infinite tokens. It was very janky, but I somehow managed to assemble it my first game with it. I found out then that finding infinite combos is a lot more fun than playing infinite combo decks.
This would be awesome to keep going. Maybe make a side thing where someone can win a game based on the amount of times their special cards are on the stack in order for them to be more useful for the deck? I think that would be cool and make them more necessary for the game.
Such an amazing idea for a video!!
Turn it into a series!
So many posibilities!
Card with same name in the card (karn's ___), cards from the same block, etc.
Pls more!!
That’s one spicy meatball! I would love to see more of this. Maybe even a team version?
honestly it feels like this wasn’t the first time carl has had to say “please don’t eat the cards thoralf”
Loved this, Tomer was the perfect guest for this sort of episode!
Magic is more than a game, it's a platform that can be built upon. And you are doing a great job showcasing this fact!!
