  • Air-taxi startup Volocopter announced that it hopes to carry passengers with its VoloCity aircraft during the Paris Olympics. But will the company get its aircraft certified in time?
    I explore the company’s plans at the 2024 Paris Summer Olympics and take a look at the future of eVTOLs.

    Do you think a single seater air taxi would save you time?

    great opportunity, far faster + cheaper than a paris taxi . That will need 30 minutes for 15 km and cost you 60€ simply due to long time.
    Velocopter needs 10 km direct route instead 15 km by taxi and charges 35 -40€.
    Obviously there will be a high demand at such prices, especially later when 2-4 seats become available.

      Are you sure about that, i mean its still in Testing/trial but if you think about the long term use, theres already a flaw for this type of vehicle

    Certification is neither an easy nor a quick process. It will be nearly impossible to obtain certification for commercial flights in the next year.

    This is cool. But it’s not a car. It’s just a drone. Car would need wheels and be amphibious (sky, street). Anyway very cool but I don’t know why they label them “cars”

      Whatever they do at the Olympics (who can afford to attend?), the future of this technology is for rich people in a market between limo and full scale helicopter and only in highly dense and high traffic cities. And they can say what they want, it is loud and windy.

    I would feel more safe if they put parachutes on those things, just in case.

      @thetimwinter Před 11 měsíci

      These won't fly high enough for a parachute to open in time. But look how many propellers this has. If one goes down, you have plenty of back ups to get you down safely. I prefer the Archer Aviation model than this one but regardless, looking forward to air taxis!

    Didn’t they already have this at JFK with helicopters to Manhattan. It’s a great idea until one crashes and kills people.

    They cannot make money on single passengers and passengers can't afford single flights.

    • @typxxilps
      @typxxilps Před rokem

      I can afford it easily. Lot cheaper than a taxi in big cities . If you fly 10 km across Paris, then the taxi will drive 15-20 km and will take 3 times as long as a 10 km flight.
      And guess what you will pay for a 15 km long taxi ride that will take about 30 minutes?
      60€ - while 10 km flight is about 40€ and much faster.
      No business case, but better way to start with a prototypr certification and 1 passenger and later more than to wait and miss the opportunity .

    This is just a gimmick. This is a strategy of going to market with a prototype and hopefully getting more funding! There is no other intention here
