  • The Problem With Blind Spot Mirrors: SOLVED - I Found The Solution!
    I firmly believe that drivers should add small blind spot mirrors to their regular side mirrors in order to improve their driving safety. But I've always thought blind spot mirrors had one big problem, one that always really annoyed me. I won't say what that is here, but the main thing is, I found something that solves that problem, and it's simple, easy, and inexpensive. This worked really great for me and I hope it's something that could help you too. Thanks for watching!

    I reuse my old blind spot mirrors - I just remove/clean off the old adhesive pads from the mirrors back and attach some new pre-cut double sided adhesive pads from the Dollar Store, etc to the mirror back.

      You can even get 3M double-sided outdoor tape. It's work to clean off back of your mirror, unfortunately, and that promotes waste, but you can use the rest of the doublesided tape for other things...

    Thanks Stan! I am trying out this exact mirror setup (SAE + blindspot mirrors on inner bottom corner)…could you possibly make a video of this setup demonstrating how cars move from the rearview mirror into the BS mirror then into the SAE setup mirror? Do you get any car image overlap in the mirrors or do they pass from 1 mirror to the next? The setup itself and the demonstration would be a great video for your viewers to help understand how it helps eliminate blindspots! Thank you.

    this is exactly what I need. I recently bought blind spot mirrors & wasn't satisfied with the placement. So I made the mistake of trying to remove it & reposition, only to have it fall off & break. Then I spent about an hour getting the adhesive off the mirror.

      These have worked great for me, and haven’t come off since I first installed it, so I’m very pleased with them. I did finally go with placing the blind spot mirror on the outer edge of my driver’s mirror.

    I decided on this position for the blind spot mirror as well, especially given that the SAE method leaves that very area "blind". I had an incident recently, where a dog somehow got into traffic and came up my left side, at that time my mirror was set to the Standard Method, and I noticed the shadow of something dark whiz by in the mirror, I was right near going to make my Left Turn at a busy intersection. Immediately alerted the traffic across from me that there was a loose dog. If I had the SAE setting, I would miss seeing that dog. You never know what can surprise you. The SAE position is great for seeing the blind spot when lane changing, but you still need the visibility of what is close to the rear of your car (also parking). Shoulder checking is always a must regardless.

    • @HowSkills
      @HowSkills  Před 3 měsíci +1

      Yes, I still use the SAE method for my main mirrors, but I feel like I also have to have blind spot mirrors to go with it for things right next to my car and for backing up and reverse parking. SAE + blind spot mirrors gives me a pretty good view all around my vehicle.

  • @realmisr
    @realmisr Před rokem +2

    Hey Stan, I picked these ventom mirrors today…Did you have to turn them a certain way before putting them on the side mirrors? For some reason when I place them on the side mirrors, I can’t seem to turn the ventom mirrors to “lock” them in place. Oddly enough it stays even when i give it a tug, so technically it works? But I’m puzzled why I couldn’t turn it clockwise to tighten it like you did with yours in the video. Fingers crossed it doesn’t fall out…

    • @HowSkills
      @HowSkills  Před rokem +1

      That is very odd. I didn’t have to turn them any specific way before I put them on my mirror. I put them on and off several different times, and had no problem getting them to turn and attach securely. Maybe the ones you received were defective somehow. I didn’t have to turn mine very much to get them to fasten tight…maybe 1/2 to 3/4 of an inch? Hopefully yours will stay attached, but you could always return those as defective and have them send you new ones to replace them.

    Great video, but I'm assuming that you live in an area with a relatively warm climate. Unfortunately, I think both adhesives and suction cups tend to degrade rapidly in winter/freezing conditions. I was looking for some blind spot mirrors that could stay permanently mounted.
    Have you had the chance to test the performance of these blind spot mirrors in below freezing conditions?

    • @HowSkills
      @HowSkills  Před rokem

      No I haven’t, but I’m wondering myself how they’ll do. Our winters routinely get below freezing, so I’ll see what happens. I imagine that could be a problem.

    You have yours tilted down. If it was tilted any other way, than all the way down, would it vibrate and work it's way pointing down by itself? In other words, how tight is the tilt-adjustment? Will the adjustment stay in place in other than the bottom pointing position?

    • @HowSkills
      @HowSkills  Před 5 měsíci

      Mine is tilted down, but currently, it’s not tilted all the way down. I have had no problems with having to readjust the mirror because it has moved from the angle I set it at. I’m really impressed with these mirrors. Not once has it lost its grip on my main mirror causing me to have to reaffix it. These things are great in my opinion!

    I am not an advocate for the blind spot mirror. Is it (at all times) causes someone's headlights which are brighter than the center of the sun to shine right in my eye. But I do what people used to do on a regular basis and check my blind spots I don't understand why that's an issue for a lot of people. For someone with a neck injury that I can't turn their head sure. But how often is that?

    • @computertutorials1286
      @computertutorials1286 Před 4 měsíci +2

      Imo the great thing about these is more visibility, especially when parking.
      Typically you only shoulder check when changing lanes, personally I want to see into my blind spot at all times, even if I have no intention of moving over.
