    Maybe an affirmation for you Micah but this shows what we clearly knew having watched you play for years:
    1-need to get more dialed in wedges (may be club up, let go of fogle)
    2-great mid to long iron player.
    3-need to get consistent with drivers. You should think about getting in fairways more often than Hitting it long. With your speed, you will get over 300 with easier swing. Those huge left or right occasional curves are also hurting you off the tee.

    I think unlimited access to an accurate lauch monitor is a definite advantage, especially for distance control.

    • @rickjablonski9669
      @rickjablonski9669 Před 8 měsíci +9

      Agreed. Accurate carry distance is an absolute must. Dispersion is a little tough for me on a LM. Especially indoors. Just hard to trust my alignment.
      Biggest takeaway from this video is to hit greens. Forget shooting at pins. I started doing the same two seasons ago. Used to play for throwing darts and trying to make birdies. Changed things up and instead went for greens and pars. Ended up playing my best two seasons in a long time. Even shot a 63 a couple weeks ago.

    This is one of the finest comparison vids i've seen on youtube, and Micah you're a fantastic golfer! Count me as a new subscriber with content like this!
    Having said that, i think it's obvious how you're a scratch golfer -- those booming drives, even if they're offline, put you in spots that short-hitters can only daydream about. That's not a knock on the rest of your game because that's fantastic too - it's just that those 75-175 yard shots that the pro hit so well just take so much practice to dial in, and so much practice just to STAY dialed in, that i think very good amateurs probably don't realize how much work it takes. Or the toll on the body either. Those guys are pros, and they've certainly earned their status. I don't think 99% of amateurs would be playing if they had to work that hard at it :)

    Very interesting and informative video, it really points out the weak and strong aspects of one's game. This was a great idea for a video.
    Matt Fryer just posted another interesting video: playing the same par 5 eighteen times. An interesting watch if you have the time since it demonstrates the importance of consistency and course management. His scores varied between 4 and 8 for those reasons, and he is a pro golfer (not a tour pro).
    You're approaching your goal by gaining knowledge of what it takes, good choice.

    When I was a 8 to 10 handicap I used a more for giving Iron set like-ping irons . When I got to be a 2 to 3 handicap I had to switch to more consistent golf club to control my yardage so when I hit the center of the club, the ball wouldn’t go 15 yards further I needed one that went 2 yards further from hitting around the center of the face so I went to Titleist blades. until I hurt my shoulder and I’m no longer scratch golfer. I’m still an eight but not a very good 8.

  • @Arrowheadgoodsco
    @Arrowheadgoodsco Před 8 měsíci +3

    Most scratch or really good players can look impressive off the tee but the biggest difference gets amplified the closer you get to the hole.
    Inside 150 yards pros are just wicked good and scrambling around the greens, not to mention they literally don’t miss inside 6’ (i know they do but they rarely miss) where as scratch golfers aren’t as consistent generally speaking.
    I have started to go into this phase myself for my golf game where my main focus is to improve inside 150 yards and work like a mad man on my putting.
    One thing that has made my putting go from average to actually starting to become a real threat on the greens is using a metronome. I set mine at 72-73 beats per minute and do a (I think its called 3/4? Beat)
    example being *beat takeaway *beat end of backstroke *beat right at the end of follow thru
    This will probably feel insanely slow to most people starting out but just practice this inside on the carpet or wherever no worrying about speed or direction just match up the tempo into a smooth stroke. Another great “feel” is to take the putter back and then pause and hold, count to 3 then release and roll the putt without “hitting” it. This will train you to have a smooth tempo without forcing a “hit” on the ball. It will make your speed control insane after a few attempts.
    Micah I hope you see this and hope you try out the metronome and pause technique. Don’t make putting complicated but please spend at least 1 hour each day working on putting inside of 10 feet. If you look at make percentages it shows that inside of 10 feet is what we need to work on the most and then a little bit of time on lag putts. But get deadly inside of 10 feet. Get smooth tempo and work with doing some around the clock 6 footer drills for something more fun. Don’t add a bunch of unnecessary training aids, tempo and if I had to pick one I would check out the “straight putt no matter what” as it isn’t very intrusive of a training but helps with Green reading and line choice.
    Good luck, hope someone gets better from reading this ❤

      @adudeuknow Před 8 měsíci

      What you said is accurate but I have to laugh because there's always that person and I happen to know that person. Haha. He is so incredibly inconsistent off of the tee. He can crush it but seems to miss fairways incredibly frequently. He is a scratch or better golfer. He rarely shoots above par. He makes everything after the tee box look like a joke. If he is within 200 yards you can count on his next shot almost being a guaranteed putt. He is constantly in a state of anger. He can slow his driver down and improve his accuracy but distance suffers greatly. He has been working on it with coaches for years and can never seem to get his driver where he wants it. It's a true anomaly. He was a successful D1 golfer. It was incredibly sad to watch him not reach his goals because of non-iron clubs.

    Difference between Scratch to PGA tour winner 12 shots. I’m off scratch and if I was on my game and playing my home course where i have local knowledge and know all the lines on the greens would still want 6 shots a side shots against a pga tour pro top 100 ranked golfer in the world. Even then I wouldn’t want to play for more than $10.
