i don't understand how this channel doesn't do 300k+ views a vid, they're hyper-well produced and edited.
ikr
Thank you so much, we are trying hard. Looking forward to those days
recently I learn to bake and realise that the culinary content is actually very old. Probably one of the oldest book published in US is some sorts of cook guide or recipe note. So, the content is diluted in the market and be treated as ordinary products. Well, that’s how market functions (kind of)
Ye
time will tell. someday this channel gonna be big. a lot so good channel going so slowly but one day, it will be hit. i believe that
Here are some banh mi suggestions for you:
- Bánh mì Bình Định (Binh Dinh’s style is quite unique)
- Bánh mì xíu mại (meatballs)
- Bánh mì cá (fish pate) Hàng Xanh
- Bánh mì cá nục (a whole fish in a banh mi)
04:56 - little gem for the linguists:
Chí Chương is phonetic-based romanisation (or Vietnamese-isation) of Chinese word 赤酱 (literally red sauce) - not to be confused with Sino-Vietnamese pronunciation of the same words (aka Hán Việt) - which would be xích tương.
This is an interesting phenomenon, in which Sino-Vietnamese is avoided (because it's perceived to be too formal e.g. you don't call the First Lady "vợ tổng thống", you always call her "phu nhân tổng thống"; also why Vietnamese names are typically also Sino-Vietnamese). Instead, phonetic Vietnamese-isation of such words, usually based on a Southern Chinese dialect e.g. Cantonese, is preferred for layman things (usually food) that have Chinese-based words.
Examples in the North:
* chè đậu xanh (mung bean sweet soup) is lục tàu xá (绿豆沙 - lục đậu sa - literally mung bean sand)
* chè mè đen (black sesame sweet soup) is chì mả phủ (芝麻糊 - chi ma hồ - literally sesame porridge), etc.
Examples in the South:
* thịt viên (meat balls) is xíu mại (烧卖 - thiêu mại - literally cook and sell - you will notice that this dish has nothing to do with the Cantonese siu mai, the word was borrowed and took on its own meanings)
* hủ tíu Nam Vang (literally Phnom Penh rice noodle soup) is another interesting example. Nam Vang (南旺 - Nam Vượng - Phnom Penh) is used for the dish name instead of official name of the city (Phnom Penh) or Sino-Vietnamese name (Kim Biên - 金边 / Nam Vượng - 南旺)
Wow! Super interesting. Thank you.
this is cool, I didn't know this
2:47 the fact that the veggies are given separately says a lot. When I go to america, I didn’t know so many adults (or young adults) refuse to eat vegetables. In vietnam, even though you can ask the cook to leave out the vegetables, our standard cuisine is full of it, and thus we grow up being more accustomed to it
Yep. And banh mi that doesn't automatically come with veggies is highly influenced by Western eating habits.
Pha Lau is originated from Chinese cuisine. Which is Teochew people who have travelled to Saigon for 100 years, Banh Mi is the optional to suitable for Vietnamese, the original is eating that with noodle, most people prefer eat it with instant noodle. I'm Saigonese live in Australia, every time I come back home, I always get at least 3-5 bowl like that
Hi Chad, thank you very much for following my recommendations; I really appreciate your efforts. I am also sorry for not giving you more details about the banh mi ga vendor I mentioned in my previous comment. From the camera's point of view at 0:28, the banh mi ga cart will be on the right side, there is an alley there and the cart is right at the alley. She normally opens to sell following the students' time: 7:00AM-9:00AM - 15:00PM-18:00PM every day, and she also sells on Sunday mornings. I don't know if she still sells at that time or not as I have not gone back to this place since 2020, but I still ask my friend to do me a favor by buying her banh mi ga every Sunday morning (around 8:00AM). I have just had one last Sunday, April 21, and it still is as delicious as it was😋The one in the video seems strange to me; I remember her cart was red; my friend said that she has added her name 'Phuong' on the cart now😄Anyway, maybe her banh mi will taste average to someone, but it is just a perfect fit with my taste. So if you have time to travel back to this area, I hope you can find her. I also hope the banh mi ga I recommended is worth a try😊Thank you Chad!
Here before Chad ✋
Layla was a wonderful co-host, very informational!
We had a great time, I’m sure we will have her on again next time she is in town
Absolutely love this series since you get to see all different varieties that exists and that people are not aware of. You should definitely continue this series for more type of dishes!
Thank you for the feedback
Love me some Chad first thing in the morning 🤤 Motto for the day... "Put your glove on and stuff it!" 😅😂
🤣
🐾 @7:53 the sign with pictures of a dog said: "NOTICE: This is Tam's grandchild. So cute I just want to display, nothing more!" 😂
He is a funny vendor
Another great video Chad!
love your content ! keep up the great work my man !
Love these programme's! So good.
jady is so adorable!!
Thank you so much
Love the collab!
Great video!
Honestly, As a northerner, I prefer banh my with fried eggs, spring rolls and pate. It's a very basic combination in Hanoi
Keep going with this series bro! It's interesting and funny to see you try new food. 😂
7:54 almost die laughing seeing that🤣
Thanks for the fun and honest review. I like to cut my bánh mì in half. That way I can eat it from the middle first, therefore my first bite is always good.
I was in Vietnam this past January and had a flight between Saigon and Hanoi. We had banh mi Ba Huynh delivered to the hotel before heading out to the airport. During the flight, while everybody was eating their not so impressive looking airline meal, we pulled out this extravagant box of banh mi, feels like first class haha. The enormous loaf really hits every spot.
Awesome t-shirt Chad. Was that your merch?
My love for banh mi is immeasurable. However, my daily limit is 2! 😂 I liked your S tier picks. I wish there was a place in the States that served the grilled, cut-up banh mi. I've never eaten that one. Please bring Ila back. She's a joy to watch.😊
This one was jam-packed with bánh mi awesomeness. Now I have to eat again before bed😂
Let’s get a part 3, 4, and 5!!
In France we have tripes cooked in white wine with carrots and tomatoes. Delicious, although they are not as popular with the younger generation.
Good content, I enjoy watching your videos. It's a shame that these videos do not get many views. Best of luck in future endeavors!

@@satakilil3620 Bị gì vậy ? Ở đời không như ý lên đây tỏ vẻ nguy hiểm ???
More please!
With that much pate & vietnamese mayonaise in the Banh My Huynh Hoa or Ba Huynh, the veggies will be extremely soggy and mushy in 20-30 mins if you put it directly in the banh my right from the vendor. Not many people eats it right after the purchase like you in the video, so they do that to keep the veggies fresh and crunchy for everybody, and will make the banh my less greasy.
Here is one Banh Mi suggestion - It is Bánh Mì Cô Linh. Not the absolute best but definitely one of the best we tried. It is in District 3.
If you are there, say hi to them from my side. Introduce me as the Indian guy who still chats with them in Zalo :D
There is a bomb bánh mì gà on Nguyễn Thị Thập street in D7 near a Circle K outside HAGL apartment complex
Quá ấn tượng😊❤😊❤😊cảm ơn bạn
Chúc bạn vui vẻ🎉🎉❤🎉❤
Love all the banh mi you had, I would love to try the roasted pork sandwich and the intestine one. The second to the last one we also have that kind of sandwich here in California.
i love bánh mỳ cá hàng xanh in Bình Thạnh and bánh mỳ nấm 362. you should give them a try.
Love your video, just only one warmly recommend for the puffing pig gift, you shall make sure it has been washed before
nice choice chef !!!
Very surprised you didn't try Banh Mi Chao in Saigon but great list nonetheless. I will surely be visiting a few of these next time I visit HCMC.
Banh mi heo quay in S tier is a SOLID choice sir! I felt the same way when you rank this episode LOL. Same goes with Banh Mi Pha Lau, it’s a hit or miss with some vendors, deserved to be in A tier for sure!!!
Glad you enjoyed it
Bánh mì + Sữa Ông Thọ Vinamilk Delicious 😆
You should try Bánh mì cóc on Nguyễn Thái Sơn street, Gò Vấp district
Bánh mì bột lọc is also nice to try
HI Chad Nice Day, Enjoy your FOOD😋😋😋
I think BANH MI is a great success
of Vietnamese and French fusion
I think they can compete with McDonald's or KFC👍👍👍
please include the previous Banh Mi from all episodes in the Tier List screen. It will be like an achievement board after a year!
banh mi crab is amazing
Try the other style of bánb mì chả cá ! The one from Nha Trang, with the thick spicy soy sauce and thai basil
We definitely will 👍
I'm visiting Hồ Chí Minh and Đà Lạt and I will definitely be visiting a couple of the places in these videos! Have you been to Grandma Lu? I'm the most excited to try them out! They use a bizarre (to me) ingredient called unlaid chicken eggs, so I cannot wait to see how it tastes.
I think I recommended it to you pre-covid / during covid on Instagram before you moved to Viet Nam
To add to the Bo Kho one, Ca Ri with bread is phenomenal as well. With my favourite one being in Da Lat (Curry Chaaa)
Docking points for extracting involuntary labor, haha! I respect it
You should rank bánh mỳ chảo. Northern style
Banh mi chao is coming but I don’t think I have ever seen/tried northern style
I love Banh Mi Chao, my favorite place in Hanoi is on Thai Thinh Street, very easy to find.
You should try Banh Mi Que, its pretty good
if you cant find any then just eat a local Banh Mi Que
You should try Bánh mì chấm sữa Ông thọ, which is very simple but a childhood memory of most SG children.
Also, you can try Bánh mì hấp and the northern Bánh mỳ trứng ngải cứu
first episode including :)
Banh mi chao when???😊😊😊
Nice
🥖 I love it so much
Hi chef, I think maybe you can dedicate an episode to pate. I personally consider it the best contribution the French influence made to Vietnamese cuisine. It tastes so good! But it is not that popular in Anglo-Saxon countries like the US I believe. I think more people would benefit if they get to know about this special culinary invention.
since you already did banh mi with stew, you should 100% try Bánh Mì Chảo, unironically the best one I had was in a random vendor on a highway that I dont remember, its somewhere in Quảng Trị I believe, but generally you cant mess up Bánh Mì Chảo, you should try it. Also also your production quality is very good btw, your vids remind me of Sony from the best ever food review show
or banh mi Bo kho
No no Mr Chad! Bánh mỳ phá lấu is SSS tier period 🫡
BANH MI treasure hunter
In Hai Phong, we actually have Bánh mì que with chí chương separated and we dip the bánh mì que in that.
As for what’s different, Chí Chương is chilly sauce but it’s really spicy and more liquidity.
Edit: you should try Bánh mì dipping with bò sốt vang, or “Beef au Vin”, or “Beef Bourguignon”(?). The sauce is more condensed than bò kho, and the flavor should be really different.
I’ll look for it, thank you
Bread dipped in cocoa has been a thing as far back as I can remember and I’m 50 this year.
Okay, you have to try "Banh mi Chao" also
Bánh mì Chảo
I just saw a Bánh mì cá kho stall right in Tô Hiến Thành District 10. Sounds very weird to me lmao but I'd like to suggest you to try it. I don't wanna take risk >.
S-tier CZcams channel about food, especially Vietnamese food!
People need to watch these videos
Banh MI Grilled with Salt and Chil loosely gives me Aussie HSP vibes
Ahhhh that was the university I went to years ago
Would love to see you eat a couple of different fish banh mi...maybe find a ground up fish one with dill and another type of fish banh mi. The ending with your daughter is too sweet! She's obviously daddy's little girl. LOL
I will, thank you
Original Haiphong's bánh mỳ que must have pork floss along with pate. Nowadays they just cut it to reduce the cost. It's sad that people never knew.
Yeah I have never seen it with pork floss
Danh sách cho phần 3 nè anh ơi:
Bánh mì xíu mại
Bánh mì chả lụa - loại ăn với muối tiêu
Bánh mì bơ sữa
Bánh mì cà ri
Bánh mì bò né
Bánh mì ốp la
Bánh mì nem nướng
your daughter is the most adorable thing I've ever seen
damn, I though you had Inga Lam as a guest for a hot minute there
Nếu bạn muốn ăn bánh mỳ phá lấu, nên ăn ở quán dì Nũi cách đó mấy căn, ngon hơn
Chí chương and chilli sauce is different in the way they are made and the taste of them
It's great that Layla has time in-between training pokémon to eat banh mi.
😂
It’s been awhile since I last had phá lấu. Tho I rather have it with noodles than bánh mì.
The second one feels less of a banh mi and more of a toolbox with a list of chores.
You must try Banh Mi Khong Ten in Vung Tau, it's insane.
Awesome I’ll check it out when I’m in town
Huynh Hoa is great but it islike 75,000 for one. They do put double the ingredients in but it would probably be better to go to your own favorite place where one is 25k, ask for double the ingredients except bread and give them 45k.
Sẽ là thiếu sót nếu Chad không thử bánh mì Tiến Lợi ở 102 đường Nguyễn Lâm P6, Q10 đó.
Sao đây là những loại bánh mì mà bạn nên thử nó
Bánh mì Khô bò đen ở chợ Dakao, bánh mì bò nướng lá lốp tương đen,bánh mì bì, bánh mì xíu mại, bánh mì phá lấu (Nguyễn Đình Chiểu q3) , bánh mì cà ri Dê ( quán Musa q5 )bánh mì cà ri gà vịt, bánh mì bò viên (Đối Diện Huyện ủy Huyện Thuận An tỉnh Bình Dương )
😎👍
I like the packaging for ba huynh but it really is unnecessary 😂
We do have pickles in banh mi in Hanoi. What are you talking about 😀
😋😋😋
Most of the heo quay stall in Saigon originated from Chinese immigrant. Of course you won't Chinese immigrant in Hanoi except Gò Đống Đa 😂
That's some dark joke bro 😅😅😅
even as a viet, i find the cacao dip banh mi weird. It's like our equivalent of dipping fries in milkshake
Even stranger to me, 🤣
giga chad
Banh mi Pha Lau. Finally I see a westerners talk about it.
Sonny showed it on his channel years ago.
Have u try banh mi with ice cream?
I have, so unique
You keep said open restaurant but don’t see it
Pulled chicken would not go well with banh mi for 1 simple reason: it is too dry. Banh mi goes well with fattier meat, not dry one, because the bread loaf itself is already dry.
She didn’t drop the yummy face
🤣, I think she was a little nervous
Lol
I can’t wait to go back to Vietnam in May.
Get to see my extended family in Hue.
Food coma everyday
I hate my first bite also
Bánh mì hấp….,??
Banh Mi food poisoning :
2/5/24 Đồng nai - 529+ people 🤣🥱
20/4/24 BanhMi Tứ hải - Quảng Ngai : 23 people
3/4/2024 Thuận An - tỉnh Bình Dương : 50 people
14/3/24 BanhMi THu hà- sóc trăng : 153 people 😂
21/09/23 BanhMi Phượng - Nha Trang : 313 people 😂
the girl is just hungry. She needs to understand what S tier means by us, what we American truly meant.
Hello, I'm a Jehovah Witness and i can't eat blood.
Does banh mi contain blood from any animal ?
Thank you, your content is great
No, but it does contain parts of the animal(s) unless you count egg(s) then, yes, that is a hen's period/menstruation.
Xé not xe 😭
