    I find it quite shocking how many of these Olympic venues end up abandoned. All that money spent for just one event then left to rot

      Well, this particular one is hard to make useful after the event, as ski jumping isnt exactly something Joe and Jane Average can do.
      But in general its true, Olympic Games are for the prestige of the hosting nation/city, the profit for the IOC, the entertainment of the plebs and maybe most importantly, the athletes. And not so much sustainability.

    • @The_Original_KL
      @The_Original_KL Před 8 měsíci +3

      The IOC needs to look at a way of having venues like this in a kind of pool, then rotate around them to stop the waste.

    The first building you came to was where the judges sit to decide how much points to give. Ski jumping positions are decided on distance and form/style. The style points are decided by the judges from that box. The room at the top of the box is occupied by the organisation mainly for safety. The series of benches/railings after are for the coaches. They give a signal to their jumper to go down the slope and make the jump once a green light is shown. The blue cage is where the ski jumper goes from. It's normally got sponsor board at the high end of the gate behind the jumper.

      To the left of the big hill is the cable 🚡 system that takes the ski jumpers from the bottom to the top of the hills.

    The blue machines - "Cables pull a miniature ice resurfacing machine up the inrun to produce the ice that is a few centimeters deep and 13.5 centimeters, or 5.3 inches, wide. The machine also produces small grooves in the ice so skis will not stick"

    its mad to think something so huge would be built for such a small group of people competing in the Olympics, you'd think it would have to stay open for both tourists and future competitors training - such a massive waste of money when you think it sits abandoned - the resources used to engineer this is a marvel in it's self - complete and utter bonkers

    This town is still a ski resort in winter. The chair lifts you showed look like they will still be running during the season. Not surprised the ski jump wasn’t used enough after the games as this is a quiet village, near the busier resort of sestriere, and ski jumping isn’t as popular in Italy as elsewhere in Scandinavia, Eastern Europe etc. Shame it has been left like this.

    You need to carry on round to the bobsled track, and buildings. They are vast. There is also a derelict monorail that sits at the bottom of the station it was left in, in that town which was massively over developed for the olympics and it’s hardly been occupied since.

    What another epic explore lads one that I am sure took a fair bit of exertion to complete. As much as I enjoyed the video, it does make you question why organisations around the world are allowed to build these facilities without having a future plan and funding for its continued use after the main event. It's little wonder why environmentalists and the general public feel aggrieved about how public money is spent!

    What a wonderful video! I was lucky enough to visit Holmenkollen ski jump in Norway. We could only go to the level where the take off is - the sheer size both up the hill and down the landing place blew my tiny 11 year old mind! I just looked up Holmenkollen to make sure I had spelling correct and went down a bit of a rabbit hole of info about just how many re-builds it's had since I was there in around 1978 - my now 55 year old tiny mind is blown again at just how much bigger these hills have become since then!!! Presumably skiiers kept outjumping the hills! Thanks for the trip down memory lane and the education! @@TB-us7el We're living through tough times in a tough world. I'd heard, although this was on social media, so be a bit cautious, that rocks are being disturbed all of the world, not just in Turin. I live in quite a quiet, rural part of the UK and i'd heard that someone had done the same sort of thing here. If it can happen here than I can only imagine that the practice is widespread, and maybe, without trying to be alarmist, could happen to a greater extent in places such as mountains or even quarries. Stay safe out there and may god keep all rocks in exactly the position that they're meant to be in.

    As it is, the site seems to have little to no intrinsic value. Why not create or acquire drawings, inventory lists and photos of structural and mechanical components that comprise the site. Invite creative people to come up with alternate uses for it all. Just giving the materials to builders and artists would be better than just letting it all sit there rotting and rusting.
