My sister had her teens plan, buy and cook one meal a week, with a set budget. Taught them so many skills!!
Awesome idea! Even for younger kids and pre teens!
Yea for homeschooling, great life skills teaching!
I am a disabled mother of three growing teenagers, a 14-year-old, a 15-year-old and a 19-year-old, and they can definitely eat and they eat a lot, I have started having them help me grocery shop online so that they can see the prices of what we are getting and they have taken that into account when asking for a different things and if they see that the price is too high, they either say they don’t need it or change up what it is altogether
I think it's a really important thing for them to see and navigate! Good job!
A cheap and healthy dip can be made by blending a tin of white beans to a smooth paste then adding flavourings. I like them with jalapeño peppers, but you can also make the dip by adding lemon & garlic, sun dried tomatoes, pitted olives, anchovies or tuna & lemon zest.
You are taking me back to my childhood, Mindy! Growing up, we didn’t have much money. In fact our mother raised us alone and was on a fixed income but she always wanted to give us a good food and she did it on a budget. She would make pudding for us (sometimes box, sometimes from scratch) and we loved it. She would make pies with it, too. Like you, she made the effort to give us snacks as well as delicious food. Great memories. Thanks for sharing.
We used to have graham crackers with icing on them for a sweet snack. We definitely lived on a tight budget
Glad I could bring back some good memories. Thanks for watching!
I make similar "grahamwiches" for my kids in the summer, but use a mashed up Banana or two mixed with some peanut butter for the filling. We call them Banana ice cream sandwiches. The kids love them and I eat one occasionally too. 😂❤
Ohhhh from the freezer. That sounds yummy.
I take my 11year old with me grocery shopping often
I set a budget and he adds it up in his head as we go and we end up making choices about our priorities
I wish I had done this with all of my kids
He enjoys it
My son is grown now, but he's always been good at math and we'd make a game of who could budget better. His favorite was to see how high of a percentage in savings the bottom of our receipt would show.
Ants on a log was a favorite with our kids. Clean an dry a celery stick, fill the channel with peanut butter, add raisins to the top as "ants". Chocolate chips if they hate raisins.
When I was young, I loved buttered toast with cinnamon sugar.
Oh yeah, those are good ones, too! My kids love ants on a log
I just want to say it's refreshing to see a mom on social media who respects the privacy of their children (like your daughter not wanting to be on camera). I've been watching so many videos recently calling out the awful behavior of Mommy Influencers (more specifically on the Clock App) who exploit their children for sponsorships and views. it's truly appalling, and one of the main reasons I prefer CZcams for my entertainment.
Lmao 😂 go cry
Mindy, you have so many wonderful ideas. Thank you for all you do.
Glad I can be helpful. Thanks for watching!
Fry flour tortilla slices like you did with the donut holes. Add cinnamon sugar. Childhood favorite!
Oh yes! I've done that before, good idea!
You could also make sweet treats with them, similar to the pinwheels in the video... A sweetened cream cheese with fruit, peanut butter and bananas, etc.

Nesquick in plain yogurt is a great flavoring to make chocolate yogurt or strawberry!
Great tip!
I have been adding protein powder to my greek yogurt to flavor it (usually chocolate and then a little scoop of nutella) and boost the protein which kind of helps to keep us fuller for longer!
we did little marshmallow, graham cereal, and chocolate chips. made that smore clusters. (we liked it without the caramel. ) at costco is 26oz for 12.00. (aldis honey grahams -2.49/12oz-mini marshmallows-1.25/10oz-chocolate chips 2.49/12oz) we made a huge batch and it was so good to take a handful- we fill our bowl with popcorn and then take a little of the smore mix and eat them together. Such a sweet savory treat. We pop popcorn every weekend.
Great idea!
Paying bills is the biggest budget buster of mt grocery budget
ha! I'm with you...it feels tricky these days making all the pieces of the budget fit together.
I know I've said this before, but I'm saying it again. Your channel is a blessing to follow. You always share the best recipes. Can you please share some kid friendly breakfast recipes?!
I completely agree! Her channel is a blessing! 😊💝
Thank you so much 🙂 I will try to get that one on the list!
@@SeeMindyMom you're so very welcome. Thank you.
Love the economical snacks ideas! Would love more videos like this!
My son loves the Nutella spread on a flour tortilla rolled up. Usually get the great value brand hazelnut spread since is a little cheaper and always keep large packs of tortillas on hand from Sam's club.
My favorite summer snack is still just a family size box of cherry Jello.
We make the "grahamwiches" sometimes with some hot cocoa powder mixed into the whipped cream to make it extra chocolatey!
Oh that's a great idea! I would not have thought of that, thank you!
Someone mentioned Nesquick (strawberry and chocolate both) earlier re: the yogurt, and I bet that application could work here, too.
A spin on the muffin cups I like is the cheap fruit muffin mix and adding berries I need to use up in the fridge with cut-up breakfast sausage links. I have also used vanilla protein shakes instead of milk depending on what I have on hand.
Great ideas!
Those 24 count muffin tins are at Belk. I got 2 of them last year because I cater cupcakes and it is so much faster to bake them in these larger pans! Also on Amazon for 17.99
I've seen them at Hobby Lobby.
Good to know, thanks!
For the corn dog muffins I put a little bit of batter on the bottom, put some corn dog pieces on top and then finish filling them with a little bit more batter and couple of pieces of hot dog. It’s good with the hot dogs throughout the muffins -Sarah
We ate saltines and butter for snacks!
I remember those days😊
And grape jelly.
We ate bread and butter with a little sugar sprinkled on top, and saltines with peanut butter!
That is such a good snack
@@SeeMindyMom oh yes... and sometimes mom would break out the cinnamon, too.
I love making cornflake delight as a snack! It’s really easy & cheap!
I watched this video with it minimized in the bottom corner of my phone while I put every ingredient you mentioned into my Walmart cart online. 😂 I love your rule about prepacked snacks!! As we go into summer and will get even busier with camps and activities, I think I'll try this! Also, for muffins, I like to make them with the dregs of my pancake mix packages. We like to sometimes get different flavored mixes, sometimes the high protein ones, too, and when I get a package or two down to the last cup or two, which isn't quite enough to make a batch of pancakes for us, I combine everything, beef it up with some plain mix, add a few eggs, milk, and frozen berries, and voila, muffins!
Great idea!
Because we do have a toaster at work, I often will do a toaster waffle, peanut butter and banana plate for either breakfast or lunch. So easy. So affordable.
Could not agree with you more about the visual of prices. My husband, doesn't typically handle any food related purchases, the other day we were out and I wanted a Mexican pizza (if you know you know). His jaw dropped when he saw the prices. He was like, you tell me but .... to see it in person was a huge eye opener for him. (To be clear I was only getting a pizza not a meal, cause this lady is not paying three dollars for a drink!).
Yes, I definitely think it's eye-opening for people who don't usually do the shopping and food purchases!
Agree. My husband went with me to WinCo this week. He eats cereal several times a week and he saw one of his favorites on an end cap, and he said That's a really good price! He was right. He's never really cared how much groceries cost if it was something he wanted.
I used to make something similar to the cheerios when I wanted something sweet. I would put the sugar in with the butter and vanilla then added the cheerios once the sugar began to melt so they would be candy coated.
I actually thought about doing it that way, thanks for letting me know it works out!
We like toast, peanut butter, banana and honey for a quick breakfast or snack. You have some great ideas for me to try!
Snacks! I am always forgetting to give my kids snacks and then they are So Hungry by dinnertime that they go raid the pantry when I'm cooking. I need snack ideas in my life, for sure.
Oooo I asked for this video! Not sure if it’s coincidence but I’m so excited 😅
I just made the cinnamon sugar cheerios and they are addictive. 😋
Instead of peanut butter and banana, I like peanut butter and apple...on bread or just dip apple slices in peanut butter
My son is in his peanut butter and apple phase right now! LOL. He eats that all the time!
@@SeeMindyMom
SOOOOOOO GOOOOOD❣️❣️❣️❣️❣️
I love PB and apples! So filling and yummy. One of my fav snacks ❤
I know not everyone is a celery fan, but boy did I like celery with peanut butter or cream cheese growing up. Especially in the summer when the celery was so refreshing.
@@yvonnepalmquist8676
Yesssss!!! Also really good❣️😁
Just ordered the popcorn popper and bought kernels at the grocery store. It won't take long for the popper to pay for itself - Thanks for the link! BTW if you don't care about color they are on sale on Amazon
These are great ideas!
I do take my teen son shopping often times (though it always increases my grocery bill when he is there lol) and he is always so shocked by the prices of groceries
Yes meat and snacks will blow your budget. TFS ❤
Great video ❤
Oooh that cheerio recipe looks tasty!!!
Just melting butter and throwing the Cheerios in and cooking them a while is a great snack. Also homemade rice crispy treats are a good snack.
Great idea!
Yes! Thank you for making this video!
You bet! My pleasure!
Thank you so much for posting. All your videos are so helpful for me and my family
I'm so glad! I really try to present realistic, easy solutions and ideas.
thank you, great video.
My pleasure! Thanks for watching!
The 2 dozen muffin pan can be found at any super Walmart in the wedding pan section. I got mine 10 years ago there. As well as some fancy cake and muffin pans.
( it may be called event bakeware or party aisle. )
What spectacular snack recipes Mindy I love to make the oyster crackers with ranch seasoning and I’ll also seasoning mine with the various types of popcorn seasoning I have in the pantry. I love using the microwave popcorn poppers so easy to use and they hold up so well for years to come
Such great ideas Mindy! Thank you for sharing them with us.
Thanks! Glad I can give a few ideas during this super hectic month for a lot of us!
My kids still have a week and a half of school left so I appreciate having knowledge early so I can prep some stuff for them. Also great for road trips or long rides on vacations.
That’s a good point on the vacation snacks
Great video!
Thanks!
I got my 24 cup pan at Hobby Lobby and I love it! Got it about 3 years ago.
❤ love your content!
Thank you so much!
I do the same thing with yogurt and drink pouches!! We do plain Greek yogurt, super budget friendly!
I see your PB & Banana and raise you a "grilled" PB & Banana... Treat it like a grilled cheese sandwich. A little butter or mayo on the outside of the bread, grill both sides in a pan... warm, gooey deliciousness
(not a snack... a sandwich)
I have wanted to throw that for a while!
Over the top!
The “Elvis”
Oh heck yes to this! I haven’t had one of these in awhile but tomorrow’s breakfast has now been decided.
I really enjoy your posts!! I look forward to your advise!!!
Thank you so much!
Hi Mindy, Great video as always! Hear hear on having kids go with you for shopping, do believe they need to actually see what it’s like nowadays. Looking forward to more videos that you mentioned. Take Care❤😊
Great video Mindy😊
Thank you!! 😁
Thanks for the great ideas
My pleasure. Thanks!
I love popcorn! Just tried making it in the air fryer and it was awesome!
How do you do that?
Line the bottom with foil, add kernels and pop for about 8 minutes
Great suggestion Mindy. My kids are grown up and out of the house, but there are some ideas I can use for my husband and I
Hi Mindy Great video thanks for sharing 😊❤️👍
Thanks for watching!
I buy large packets nuts sultanas divide into snack sizes pop corn fruit yoghurd are great snavks
Im going to make the smoke sauage and cornbread. I think it would be great for a small breakfast.
Hope you enjoy
Great ideas as usual… ✔️
Thank you! 😊
cool
Really liked the makeup today
Thanks!
❤❤❤
I'm gonna make the Cheerios
I hope you enjoy them!
Im raising boys by myself ... ive made a conscious effort to involve and include them in all household jobs...budgeting being #1.
It has educated them in how much i work to provide and the value of $
Not only do I take my kiddos to the store, but they each have to plan a meal each week during the summer. They have to find a recipe, make a meal plan, make a grocery list and then we go to the store so they can shop for it. Most times I give them a budget and every so often I won’t just to see what they come up with.
That's a great idea!
We limit snacks too and we have to finish what we have before we buy new. I also make a lot of homemade options for them to choose from.
I've decided to go vegetarian. It's been 5 days and i feel great! I make faux meat from beans etc. It's healthier, cheaper than meat and shelf stable for the dark days we are in.
@seemindymom Regarding the ranch crackers, we don’t use seed or canola oils, so what would you recommend replacing it with in that recipe?
My family isn't a big fan of pork, but I've explained before it's usually more affordable and available so that's why I buy it
I made GF blueberry muffins yesterday! GF and other specialty diet snacks are soooo expensive!
Smart tip on the grapes and your daughter. My son complained of no $ so I told him to write down every penny he spent for a month - at the end he discovered he was “eating” up his money. Looking forward to the meat video
As a New Zealander, these ingredients are so foreign to me……. Just interesting seeing the snacks from another country
I got my mini muffin 24 count pan at Walmart
Good to know! I’m glad they’re available!
Hi Mindy! These all looks delicious and yummy! Do you have them all typed up or in a pdf anywhere? Have a great and safe weekend! ❤
Thank you! You too!
1/3 of the way in the video. I guess I'm old school, lol. I still like cook & serv pudding better. Other than that, all of the ideas sound great 👍 can't wait to try. Me & my son will be home this summer. My school is almost out & I'm glad 😊 my kinder class is so ready!
I also like the cook n serve.
I have just heard weather reports of storms and tornadoes in USA. I hope this will not affect you and your family.❤
We're doing okay in Tulsa, but lots of places around s have had a tough spring.
Meat is killing my budget
We used to go to a local meat market and get one of their meat boxes that had ground beef, chicken, pork, and sausage in it. It was cheaper than buying individual packages of meats.
Try a few meat free meals. Curries are often naturally meat free like dhal, or a spinach/butternut squash/ chickpea curry. To be fair by OH isn't on board, but they're my preference.
Try a spaghetti sauce made from caramelised onions with tomato paste tinned tomatoes. Maybe some mushrooms as well. And herbs of course, whatever you may have.
That topic is on my list to address.
One thing that helped me was just reducing the amount of meat. Like two chicken thighs with a bunch of veggies for a chicken soup. Instead of using a pound of hamberger in my spaghetti I just used 1/2. If you add in veggies with that you can bearly tell the difference. Or I just make smaller portions for that meal and if I'm still hungry just fill up on veggies. Mushrooms work great as a meat sub too.
I'm going to make some of these snacks. Yum! I can't keep Michael in snacks. I don't know where he puts all those calories either.
I just read an article- in my area, (phoenix) Aldi, Winco, Costco and Target are lowering their prices to combat inflation- in hopes that public will purchase in bulk. Lots of meat prices plummeting. Is this true for your area as well?
I have heard the same thing.
Loved your hairdo in beginning of video.Great ideas for young and old as all enjoy snacks 😊
Thank you!
Amen to taking older children grocery shopping and having them see prices and h3lp select items for the family
You have a new Yeti coffee mug!
Yes! My kids got me another one for Mother's Day!
Meat and my daughter’s diet restrictions. She is gf and df and it’s so expensive where we live.
Thankyou in advance for this
.....8 months ago I swore off buying packaged snacks for my 4 kids, aged 7-16. Its been a struggle. They have fought me on this. But since September, 8 months we've been staying the course. Our grocery budget is for food, not snacks, but ingredients to make snacks.....get me?
In April, our GROCERY, budget
...not snacks, just whole foods was 1343 Canadian dollars. For 1 month to feed 6....
Help me please in the snack ideas. I can't afford to pay for store snack foods anymore.
It interesting for me watching this . I have five children who are all grown up now. We never had a snack cupboard or really did snacks in the way I see these days. I also grew up on the 60’s-70’s in Ireland and the most we’d get for a snack would be some plain cookies with butter on them and a bottle of diluted juice for a children’s picnic. My children had their main meals but we didn’t really do snacks as such. Of course they could access the larder for nuts and crackers and bread etc if they wanted them in between and they went to the shops occasionally, but spending most of money or making specific snack foods just wasn’t a thing. I feel as if we can’t go a couple of hours any more without eating snacks or having a drink. Maybe we should re think snacking . There are too many people in the world starving to death so if we consumed a bit less there would be food to go around. I’m not judging but just asking a genuine question and the snacking culture which is growing into a huge industry.
Totally agree, this is a big contributer to the growing diabetics...
Yeah.... this is why >60% of the US is overweight or obese.... the endless snacking on ultra processed foods loaded with carbs, sugar, and seed oils. Even in normal weight children, we are now seeing pre-diabetes and elevated cholesterol and early metabolic syndrome. My mom used to give us something to drink and tell us to wait for dinner.
I grew up this way too. The only time snacks were in the house were holidays or special occasions. When I was a teenager I would eat something when I got home from school but it was usually a fresh cucumber or tomato out of the garden. My Mom did make koolaid but with much less sugar.
I try to meet people where they're at, and a large majority of people, especially with those with young kids, wanted an answer to this question. Let them glean from it what they can, and make decisions for their own families. I try to simply give realistic answers without being the food police.
I’m not being the food police I’m simply pointing out how things have changed . I think we normalise the changes and never think it could be different. Sure have snacks and do what you want for your family , but to stop occasionally and ask do we need to do this or do I really want this for my family is ok too.
as nice as those cinnamon cheerio's sound, couldn't you just eat a box of cinnamon cheerio's? no need to cook them with butter and a mountain of sugar
The Honey Nut Cheerios are one of my favorite snacks but I don't snack very much.
Really enjoy this channel! I'm just shocked to see people are still using vegetable oil😬
Bc so many don't believe what we're saying. Some bc it's cheaper. I honestly don't eat much premade items. But my friend has boys and they're eating her out of the house
You could probably use spray kind. Your just using it to create something that will make the flavor stick.
My mom uses it and she's 89 and dad is 92...having said that I don't use it 😂
❤️❤️❤️
