  • They scam unsuspecting victims across the globe - but they’re victims themselves. Thousands of people are trafficked worldwide into Myanmar's war-torn east, where they are forced to trick people in Europe, the US and China into scam schemes. At KK Park, one of the most notorious facilities, those who refuse risk torture and even murder. DW’s investigative unit went to the borderlands of Thailand and Myanmar to track down the perpetrators behind this multimillion-euro operation. Along the way, they uncovered a vast criminal network leading to a notorious Chinese Triad boss.

      I am from Myanmar. 🇲🇲
      I was tricked into working at a gambling website developer in Myanmar.
      They get their money from their networks in China.
      The company is in Myanmar company directory list, it's name is Tamron Technology.
      They rented two office lot in Yangon, Myanmar Plaza office tower.
      Aside from gambling websites I believe they also involve in romance scams and other illegal activities.
      The company heads are Myanmar born Chinese (mixed with Burmese ethnic people called Shan).
      They speak Chinese, so it's so easy for them to get in contact with illegal networks in China. 🇨🇳

    As a Thai I would say that most people that got trafficked are job-seekers that got tricked to go work in Thailand but are actually kidnapped to Myanmar, not random tourists getting dragged off streets. However, the thoughts that people can be kidnapped anywhere here is definitely understandable as our government is doing very little to tackle this problem and not being serious about this issue enough to make tourists feel safe.

    I worked in one such compound. But I'm a dentist and they were desperately in need of one so I had much more freedom than most. Even then, my freedom was limited to inside the compound. I needed extensive reporting and waiting for a permit just to go out for a couple of hours a week. I didn't know the nature of their work before I went there but I figured everything out in my first month so I quit immediately although the pay was higher than I've ever made in my entire life (over $1200 in first month: which, for a country like myanmar, is ridiculously high income). I don't know if anyone will see this comment so I'll stop here. If anyone wants to know more, ask in the replies.

    • @jakob.k_design
      @jakob.k_design Před 4 měsíci +1

      they do not use traditional phones. All scam callcenters use services/software that work via the internet and then emulate basically any area code that works best.
      The only way to effectively fight this is by educating people and maybe by making the callsoftware providers liable, because some of those companies know very well that their software is used for fraudulent activity. But they do not care, because they do not face any legal repercussions.
      Also prohibitng corruption in those areas and actually punishing those criminals would work, but that is not gonna happen in those areas. There is a reason why call centers are located in certain areas, and it is not because everybody there is happy to scam people it is because corrrupt police allows it.

Traffickers generally don't want any type of media coverage or police interference since kidnapping generates media coverage.
