Years later and this is still the best/heaviest cover of "Imagine". For me personally, as much as I love John, this captures the spirit and message of the song perfectly.
Many of John Lennon's songs were dark -- even back in the 60's. He was the dark Beatle, so to speak. Try Working Class Hero by John Lennon for a darker song than this one.
knowing how John was he would be totally supportive of the way they're singing. he would say that they have their own style and they put their own emphasis on the song, John was just that kind of guy. sadly he was taken in his prime but at least he left a really good legacy behind without him we wouldn't have this wonderful version of this song Maynard obviously knows who good artists are.
@@Dizzy-izzy. first off John Lennon was very young and in the Beatles he had drug problems and he was a broken individual not saying it was right that he hit his wife but he actually apologized to her and tried make up for it. You don't have to like him but you know what? Nobody's perfect with your logic you might as well go and say Martin Luther King jr. And Mahatma Gandhi and all that were bad individuals for what they did to their wives to , at the end of the day they were all human.
original DAMN hard to beat but I must admit it is at LEAST as good. and that is saying a LOT. Definitely one of the many more "ballsy" covers by Maynard and crew, such a simple song yet SO profound and powerful, the words could potentially inspire not just a REVOLution, but an EVOlution of humankind. So so powerful.
Anyone else think about zombies when listening to this song? They have no war, greed, possessions, or religion. In fact now that i think about it, they seldom eat a person, they usually just bite them and turn them into a zombie. Holy shit guys! Zombies have a utopian society.
Until reading this, I never thought about how zombies are probably the most peaceful forms of humans... Society is so cruel, but you ain't ever going to hear a zombie criticize you for what you are wearing or for how much you weigh. If you're fully alive, they'll follow you to the ends of the Earth! Once you are undead, they'll travel with you in hordes!
Tabitha Pickett Zombies are not forms of humans. Zombies do not exist. And in cinema, the only medium in which they do exist, they eat people. Thus, not peaceful. Shut the fuck up.
Sean Byrne See? That's what I'm talking about. If I had said all that to a zombie, he wouldn't have tried to be a douche and tell me to STFU. You may have not realized it when you posted that comment, but you actually helped me prove the only point I was trying to make. Thanks for that :)
Zombies are flesh-eating undead, or in the most realistic sense, people with a missing or severely damaged frontal lobe (afaik). A hippie, from my understanding, is a person who values Love above society's unwritten laws and expectations. The real zombies are who's identity is dependent on a sick society.
This expresses the cynism that goes in pair with the "hope" of a better tomorrow seeing what we're doing with this world... A perfect ... circle... yes of course... and picture of the world we live in.
I am religious, but I believe all people have the right to live their lives as they please as long as they don't harm anyone else. Due to this fact, I see this song as nothing less than beautiful. The trees and the grass are different, but they don't fight one another. The world is different, but it lives in balance. I don't believe it's possible because of abundance of cruel people in this world, but I do hope someday humans can live in peace.
I think their cover made it make for of an impact for me. It takes the dark feelings of the taboo subjects in the song, and converts it into the music. I love it.
Just beautiful... I can't praise APC enough for their ingenious eMOTIVE album. It certainly makes my search for the "100 greatest covers ever" playlist easier. The harnonies are as ever haunting and primatively universal if I can be so grand. I love this cover. This is a gem in world of fairly average covers. trust me I've listened to a few.... check my playlist. you'll love it.
Just because something is unlikely doesn't mean you shouldn't strive to accomplish it. The reason racism and hatred are so prolific is that cowardice has become something we reward. All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good people do nothing.
Let's all create a project to build a utopian space frontier in which all sustainable life salvaged from earth will co-exist and we will have enough of everything for everyone and we can name it "Maynard" .
i agree with everything J. Lennon (in this case Maynard) has to say EXCEPT the things about religion. Religion is a beautiful thing if you ask me. Personally I am a Christian but just seeing other religions like Sihkism, Buddism, and Judism are all amazing. I think learning about their ways are spectacular, inspiring and beautiful.
@TheCrazyplayer95 People just call Rock and alternative/punk music demonic because we have the balls to say what they wont. Only we put it to music and we actually have MEANINGFUL lyrics.
@stonecoldatheist93 I think you've misunderstood me. I originally stated, "I can imagine what this would be like. but unfortunately, this would result in the end of the world. even though it'd be nice." I meant that there would be no peace UNTIL everyone was dead due to everyone having different beliefs. This is what this song is about. Peace. Its what John Lennon wanted. I'm sorry if i stated it weird man! Hopefully you can understand what I mean now. No disrespect my friend!
MJK took a song and freakin revitalized it, made it so much more modern then John Lennon did. The peace movement isnt limited to the Beatles fans, but to alternative fans and fans of every genre. I love this song, lol. Old and New-but APC is simply amazing
Wow.. I actually like this version better than the original! Ps. you might want to add some more tags, so that it gets easier to find :) Because it's a great song!
too* good TO be true....and no its not......its' people like you who don't believe that make people think nothing will change....but yet you have so much power to change things around you.
in alot of ways i like this version more than the lennon version, i think that the rock style they added works well and that his vocal cords work excelently with the music and lyrics but there will always be people who prefer the original and i can see that, lennons vocals and more upbeat style was alot more happy and "enjoyable in that sense" but i still enjoy this version
We are so separated because the powers that be fear us. Look at what we do when we do come together. Look at the peace and understanding men in the million man march accomplish every time they gather. When we come together as one, the universe fears us. As well they should, because we truly are the species capable of showing complete love and understanding of every being out there, or we can bring total devastation to this part of the universe!
@popularguy3 There can't be a heaven or hell for the rest of this song to be compatible. I hope we never see the physical manifestation of this song, but sadly, I think we will and in that day the world becomes one, everyone will have the eyes forced open to the true state of men... and wallow in the despair of their own imaginations. Man is not sick but dead.
even though i am 11, i understand wat this song means....i think that this is one of the best song EVER written. and if i had a geni bottle i would wish for john lennon to come back!. this song is even better then nick jonas's and justin beaver's and lady gaga. if anyone agree's replie wat u think!
There are no such things as womens problems or minorities problems or black and white problems. There's only human problems. The day we understand that anything that hurts one hurts us all is the day that the dream is realized and we can all work together for a better and equal world
@Raisume24 I concur with the thought. I think John Lennon was taken from the world to soon, but who knows? Perhaps there was reason to that despicable fate of the great musician.
@marinesmakepeace also, to say everyone who doesn't believe in your god is going to hell is pretty offensive, which people who questions christian doctrine hears every time. They tend to refuse to accept any possible flaw to point out in a possibly flawed interpretation, and so they say "god doesn't like you! You're going to hell!" If you wish to see christians be treated with respect, actually meet the points others make
@xphoenixdownx i understand that and i accept that. its just my view and i stand by the fact that i dont like it. i just have something with originals and covers, i mostly prefer originals. not all the time but in this instance i do!
Years later and this is still the best/heaviest cover of "Imagine". For me personally, as much as I love John, this captures the spirit and message of the song perfectly.
Of all the versions I've heard, I must admit, this is my favorite. Maynard is my hero.
Yes
John's makes you think "Imagine what the world could be." A Perfect Circle's makes you think "Imagine what the world could have been."
That gave me the chills
Very well said.
I was literally just about to say the same thing. I love this version
Here I am reading this in the year 2021 and thinking "Imagine what the would has benn" considering this cluster fuck of a year.

Chris Cornell's cover is the best version.
John Hosp he was just stating his opinion no need to get all defensive about it
DAAAMNNN!!! This cover is amazing!! I really loved this dark sound they made to the song! Solo is epic! Nice vid, bro!!!
I listen to this song on dark stormy days with all the lights off and the minor key melody is very haunting. The song sometimes creeps me out.
I love the word style and pretty much everything about this vid.
I think they did more with this song than Lennon did. This is amazing
i love lennon's version but this one is awesome as well. perfect circle did an amazing cover. :D lennon's lyrics are beautiful
