Muhammad Ali the old lion with his condition should have retired years before this match. He still showed a glimpse of his old greatness against a younger, hungrier, more fit fighter. He brought both tears and joy to his lifelong fans.
Even in the end of his career, Ali was strong and brave, but time beats everyone, as Rocky told Creed. Ali is a legend, we miss you forever, RIP, Ali. PS - Ali should have retired in the end of the 70's.
Muhammad Ali is a great personality that we cannot give him his due, no matter how hard we try to describe him... He is better than wearing boxing gloves and the most noble of them inside the ring throughout history... May God have mercy on him and fulfill his wish for I heard him say I want to see heaven
"Ali's reflexes are gone. He knows what to do, but he can't do it." "He's got the moves....he is just too slow" "I hope he never fights again" *STILL CANT PUT ALI AWAY*
I saw a fight from Ali that he could have one on points. The Judges gave Ali a few more years for giving the decision to Berbick, but I believe (Yes, I am biased in Favor of Ali) but I had heard the fight was lopsided in favor of Berbick, but the video tape shows that the Judges could have given the decision to Ali on points.
EXACTLY... it's Amazing what he did in that condition to still be able to fight and even go the distance and take that punishment...CRAZY!!...Its like when the bell rings he goes into a trance and becomes a fighter and when it rings again he becomes a man in a weakened condition because of the P.D.
non of us can tell a warrior to quit, we have no right to tell someone to quite the thing he devoted their life to since he was 12 years old, a modern day gladiator - I am sure he would have been happy to die in the ring..
I don't think he looked that bad, he actually did well in the beginning, even outlanding Berbick, but then he ran out of gas, he came in the heaviest he'd ever been and that played a big part.
Much respect to the Greatest Of All Time, Muhammad Ali. Father Time catches up with us all, but he went out on his feet, swinging like the true warrior that he was.

That's why the fight is in Jamaica. Nobody is Canada or the U.S would sanction the fight. ALI has always been my favorite, even though Berbick was Canadian I still wanted Ali to win. They had to skirt around so many rules to make this fight, even in Jamaica. I know Ali losses this fight, but still have not watched it. I know TB was supposed to ease up on Ali, but I heard he did not. Nope, I still wont watch it. I prefer to remember Ali the way the way I do. Beating up on the Cocky Leon Spinks to regain his title. I WILL watch Mike Tyson beat up on Larry Holmes for his betrayal, on repeat.

When Ali gets in the ring if you watch his trainers ALL OF THEM KNOW THIS IS WRONG! Like the commentator said " Nobody's smiling"...the unnecessary punishment 💔😢...RIP Ali 🙏
This is sad that they actually allowed him to fight in this condition. Berbick was classy. He said he said to him early in the fight “do your best”. He really didn’t want to hurt him.
Ali was greedy for money, and he forced champion boxers to have to injure their conscience in fighting him, you can't respect an egotistical punch drunk idiot who doesn't know when to quit

Lets put it this way. It was a disgrace it was allowed .... BUT... for an Ali that was ailing this was a tremendous performance. He went the distance with a future champ, got in some nice combos and even won the odd round!! Amazing man! A better way to go out than the Holmes fight.
SuperLaney81 I couldn’t agree more. It’s like the story in Rocky Balboa. Fought well at an old age and went the distance. He won my respect. Be fucked if we was finishing in that shit year of 1980. No one was going to stop him fighting in my lifetime and deny me that.
He should not have been fighting, but he looked really good in this fight. Parkinsons is worse some days than others, and his symptoms were clearly on the good side the day of this fight.
Honestly, he looks better than George Foreman in George's last few fights. It's only in retrospect, knowing how quickly Ali declined after this, that it's really sad.
What are you talking about with Foreman? He was a beast in his mid 40s. His last fight was one of the worst rigged decisions in boxing losing to Briggs at 49 lol. No, Ali had the weaker genetics. @@TheMt45

@@solomongrundy1467 You guys realise boxing was his job, right? He was a prizefighter- ie he fought for money (like you, I assume, work to earn a living). It's easy to romanticize his career and speak about how he had nothing to prove after beating those guys but he had an expensive lifestyle and there was money to be made. He earned 6 million $ for fighting Frazier in Manila and at least a similar amount the following year when he faced Norton in their rubber match. Who turns that kind of money down?? Just so their fans can talk about how they had a great record and proved their worth?? All those things you talk about are secondary considerations in the overall scheme of a boxer's life. I know it's sad how he ended up but that's often the nature of the game.

Nashville Dude The issue is not how they trashed talked, but that they trashed talked and became the highest paid boxers because of it. Ali invented that philosophy. Become a villain to make the million. Floyd, Roy, Camacho, and Prince Hamed followed that method, Floyd was the most successful at it.

Ali has gone the way of so many great champions. He fought past the point of immortality. Exactly when that was I am not sure. All I know for sure is he did!
Even with unmistakable signs of early Parkinsons Ali outpointed Berbick. Amazing. Berbick only won because he compensated for his lack of ability with a lot of energy.
Ali is definitly the hardest chin of the history of boxing. Watch him fighting against berbick, one month away from 40 years old, already struggling for almost 2 years against parkinson desease, out of shape ( 238 pounds) and still see him ending the fight standing up is amazing. The man is definitly the hardest chin ever and the greatest of ALL times. I can picture in my mind, Ali in his prime against this Very same berbick... He would fool around for 3 or 4 rounds, then he would Get serious for more 4 or 5 rounds and KOs berbick somewhere around 7th and 10th round. Ali the GOAT
win or loose? he is always the champ! you only have to look at the crowd to know who is the greatest of all time. without him, there is no boxing, only $$$$$$.
WITHOUT ALI : BOXING sport IS NOT ANYMORE AS FAMOUS!!! EVEN "MAYMONEYMAKERWATERFLOYDMAYWATER " will never come close to the greatest .... ANYONE COULD BEAT AN UPCOMING PARKINSON BOXER !!!!
Going through with this fight showed incredible heart by Ali, though in a way it is also sad that his career ended in such a way. First the disaster that was the Holmes fight and then Berbick shown here. He will forever be regarded as the greatest boxer of all time nonetheless, and Trevor Berbick was fortunate to receive on the job training in what it means to be a champion.
Sad to see a hero deteriorate like that, but so impressive to see someone about one third of the fighter he use to be still hold off the top contenders.
In life everything changes but the great ones such as Muhammad Ali remain the lion whose roar was his enemy trembling ,,,, God has mercy on him now he is in paradise ,,, Mohammed Ali legend will not be repeated Everything done was beautiful and distinctive I loved him I was 10 years old now I am 55 years old I will love him more and respect him for ever
An absolute warrior. He ended it with his boots on and even pushed himself to dance late in the fight. Maybe soaking it in one last time, pushing himself to the edge. And even in this bad of shape, Berbick couldn't put him away.
I don’t want to be disrespectful for Berbick in anyway, but he fought a 40 year old man, with very noticeable symptoms of Parkinson, who at that time was slurring his speech, and barely winning. This really show how great Ali was.
this fight + larry holmes fight (begenning of parkinson)+ leon spinks fight (very old ali)..don t even exist in my mind lolllllllll anyone can tell something is off with him.. he moved like he was an old man.. but still tough as hell still had enough to keep it going ... ali lost only against jo frazier and ken norton "that he beated in the rematch"
First time I ever watched this fight, I'd always heard it was a massacre, but this fight was closer than I'd heard. Ali took some punishment for sure but he still had his moments and didn't really humiliate himself. In his prime Berbick would have been gone in two rounds.
I usually score this fight for Berbick, but today I scored the fight 4-4-2, a draw (96-96). This has always been a fight, even in Ali’s condition, where I thought it was always close enough for Ali to have won it. The last time I scored this fight, I’m pretty sure I scored 6 rounds for Berbick and 4 for Ali; but it just seemed closer this morning. Berbick still pulled it off, but an old, shot Ali with the first signs of brain damage and Parkinson’s still showed a fighting heart and spirit. Maybe he shouldn’t have been in there, but given that the damage was already done - it’s kind of nice to see him end his career this way in a 10 Round UD loss than a 11th round TKO against Holmes. I’d rather have seen this Ali against Holmes, but I still don’t think Ali could have lasted fifteen at that point. I just love this fight because Ali still had something and since the damage was already done, it was a fine fight to go out on.
Ali's physical skills disappeared by this time but his heart never left him.
Sadly, sometimes it's better to go down. He took far too much brain trauma in the sad twilight of his career.

At nearly 40 years of age, and way past his prime and in the early stages of Parkinsons disease he still went the distance with a future world heavyweight champion. and lots of people thought he`d won that fight.. Ali is the greatest of all time.. In his pomp he was unbeatable...
He lost to Frazier and Norton in his prime.Norton at age 31 you can kinda argue that but most boxers master there skills at age 30. My all time greatest what if’s Ali vs Tyson and Rocky Marciano the only undefeated heavyweight. I don’t take stock in the mock fight rocky win over Ali.

EXACTLY... it's Amazing what he did in that condition to still be able to fight and even go the distance and take that punishment...CRAZY!!...Its like when the bell rings he goes into a trance and becomes a fighter and when it rings again he becomes a man in a weakened condition because of the P.D.

I don't think he looked that bad, he actually did well in the beginning, even outlanding Berbick, but then he ran out of gas, he came in the heaviest he'd ever been and that played a big part.
