I always loved In Through The Out Door. Lots of original Zep fans hated it and I can see why, but 'All Of My Love', Hot Dog, and 'Fool in The Rain' are awesome songs. Also on Presence, I really like Candy Store Rock it is a very underrated track. Still, I would have Coda and Presence last.

Led Zep IV is my personal favorite. Despite what most people say, Stairway To Heaven is still an amazing, moving song. ( unlike Hotel California, Dream On or In the AIr Tonight). Now these are overplayed in my opinion. They were an amazing band. They capture the 70's. Thanks for the post.

On any given day it could shift about but your ranking was sort of the natural pecking order that popped into my head. I too love the progginess of Houses of the Holy. You can get a second perfect prog album by taking In Through the Out Door, removing South Bound Saurez and Hot Dog, and putting In The Light between In The Evening and Fool In The Rain. It sounds like it belongs there and the result is a classic six song 44 minute prog album. Just saying. One of my favorite playlists it is. ;)

When Led Zeppelin I came out it was mind blowing I was a senior in high school (1969) so for me it is and always will be my #1 followed closely by Led Zeppelin II, the rest of their catalog is pretty much in order of release except Led IV @ #3, Led HOTH @4, Led III @#5 and #6 would be Physical Graffiti then the rest are pretty much tied for last.
BTW...I wouldn't consider Led Zeppelin prog at all, you hit the nail on the head calling them Blues/Rock, the only prog-ish element was John Bonham's style of drum playing no other drummer I've ever heard played like him and I think he's in MHO the best rock drummer ever.

Until I bought the Remasters bx set and then the Remasters 2 box set I only ever owned Four Led Zep albums and sold off one of them. The three LPs I still have are Presence, LZ 4 and The Song Remains the Same - which I bought after I saw the film when it first came out but have always until the expanded CD and DVD release a few years ago, wondered why they were adamant at calling it a Soundtrack to the film when Celebration Day wasnt in the film and a few other songs in the film werent on the album - they could have swapped Celebration Day for Black Dog or Over the Hills and Far Away? I also have never been a great fan of the extended Dazed and Confused and prefer the studio version of Stairway (though when I do hear it I cannot not think of the line 'does anybody rememebr laughter') but loved the pairing of The Song Remains the Same and Rain Song and always dug No Quarter.
Any how, the one I sold was Physical Graffitti, I always thought that was an excellent single album masquerading as a double and at the time I sold it I needed to raise money for other things - I also sold my Seconds Out and Santana Moonflower albums at the same time - interestingly I have since replaced those two but not PG.
So because I never had all the albums as they were released I have to rearrange the songs on the remasters sets to form the albums, and I have to agree that Houses of the Holy is my favourite all round followed by 4 then Presence, LZ2, Physical Graffitti, LZ1, LZ3, Coda, In through the Out door - it has perhaps their worst song to grace an album in Hot Dog - it might have been better if some of the tracks hat ended up on Coda had been on it instead..
LZ 2 as the Greatest Hard Rock album? - could be, though if I had to choose I'd rather listen to Deep Purple In Rock, and to be honest in my personal list of favourites LZ dont make my top 20 - that, however, is my personal opinion and despite it I can hear why they are many people's absolute favourite.

Not being a huge Led Zep fan myself, but it is amazing that your No. 1 is the only disc by Zep that I replaced when CD's came out. I love that disc! I just really don't get into blues rock, which is what Zep is based on. The same with Kansas. I love their proggy tunes, not their bluesy tunes. Plants vocals annoy me just like Geddy Lee of Rush. Both vocals come straight through the nose. I know, that's sacrilege. I also love Achilles Last Stand...what a heavy song!

I strongly disagree on the first album. In my opinion it is the greatest debut album ever. And I always regarded it as kind of semi-prog.

The Coverdale/Page album should be last....lol
I dont have much respect for Page. King of the overdub. John Pertrucci is his prince in that regard.
Page made a career of shamelessly ripping off blues artists, more egregiously than the Stones.
Plant, on the other hand, has done other things. When Bonham died, Zeppelin died. Plant is up there with David Byrne, Peter Gabriel, Mike Patton, in regards to singers who moved on. Unlike Vince Neil...lol
Physical Graffiti is their high point in my opinion.

The best LED ZEP album would be ITTOD if only the fillers were replaced with the 1978 recordings in CODA. (Ozone Baby, Darlene, Wearing and Tearing)
So when i listen to ITTOD the tracklist i listen to is:
    1)In the Evening
    2)Ozone Baby
    3)Fool in The Rain
    4)Darlene
    5)Carouselambra
    6)Wearing and Tearing
    7)All My Love
    8)I'm Gonna Crawl
Imo with this tracklist it is the best LED ZEP album.

Sorry about that. Just not crazy about the bluesy side of the band…it’s still a great record.
