  • After bypassing my contact at GMG Racing about the issues with the new roll bar for my Porsche Cayman S, I finally get some answers ... just not good ones ...

Enjoy your channel Cliff and found it very helpful when I was fitting a valved exhaust system to my Cayman.
I've not worked with GMG, but I know it's possible for welded assemblies to shift a bit as the welds cool, even when work is done on a jig. That may be what you found with the alignment issues on your bar. From Jeep and Landrover experience, a ratchet strap can provide the pull needed to line things up.
You might use a heavy duty magnet to trap the loose foreign object inside the cage (assuming what's rattling around in there is metal) and just leave the magnet in an inconspicuous spot while you are figuring out a more permanent solution... hopefully GMG makes things right for you.

Probably not a unique situation. Sorry to hear the issues but also appreciate it for my future purchase.

Such a bummer, I'm a big fan of GMGs work but that is an unfortunate situation. Fitting a roll bar also looks like a massive pain, its the reason I went with the Brey Krause truss bar instead. The harness bar is really the only functional element I wanted

I believe Cliff made a comment that harness bar alone is dangerous.

@@hasonlavajunk9774 not sure why that would be the case. The BK bar is hard mounted in 4 locations that are all meant to be load bearing..

@@dudeisnotcoolio I believe he mentioned harness bar belt setup traps your body in an upright position; and in a rollover, you get crushed. Therefore, a roll cage is also necessary.
Otherwise keep a stock seatbelt setup so your body can contort in a rollover.

@@hasonlavajunk9774 Ah fair enough. Will only use harnesses for autocross and keep using the 3 point for HPDE.

I have a CMS cage in my GT4. It’s great and they have always been responsive and helpful.

Thank you for the update! Seems like you were more than cordial. You’d think they’d take the opportunity to save face but oh well. Will be happy to avoid

The net, avoid GMG Racing like a plague. Thanks for sharing. This will save many of us the headache you went through.

before i watch this video. i'll say that it should be interesting how they go about justifying the poor workmanship.
from experience i can say that these kind of outfits create a jig that is only an approximation of what might fit the car then they cut, and weld the tubes while clamped in the jig. the heat from the welding distorts everything. they don't care. THEN then drill holes by hand such that ONLY those pieces will fit together using those holes. and voila you've got a POS that only goes together one way and with those pieces and doesn't have a chance in hell of fitting anything.
BTW, write this one off, i doubt it will even protect you in a rollover. and this time i think i'd find someone that has a cage that's been installed and that can testify to the fact that it fits. maybe a porsche dealership or an independent garage or some guys you know at the track.
