Chicken Jerky Dog Treats | Ninja Foodi

- I've been wanting to try making Jerky in my Ninja Foodi, so let's try it out on some chicken for a treat for Allie Jean. This process would be exactly the same for making jerky for yourself, you would just marinate the meat overnight in whatever flavoring you want-I'm thinking a spicy, soy sauce, honey, garlic mixture of some sort. I've never given Allie many treats because I do not like most of the store bought options. If I'm going to make her food, I shouldn't give her snacks that are full of the junk I was trying to avoid in the first place. Using the dehydrator function in the Foodi, I can make her dried sweet potatoes, chicken jerky, salmon jerky, dried apples, dried sugar snap peas, all kinds of healthy treats. I did this round with no flavoring, but you can sprinkle with some turmeric or ginger if you'd like to mix things up for your pooch and add some healthy spices-but keep it simple.
Recipe
2 organic, free range chicken breasts
Directions:
1.) Pound the chicken breasts to an even thickness
2.) Slice the chicken into 1/4" - 1/2" thick slices - the thinner the better, but try to be consistent
3.) Place on dehydrator racks and cook in the Foodi (or other dehydrator) at 150 for about 6 hours
Note:
This can be done in the oven, just set your oven to the lowest possible temperature, place your chicken on an oven safe rack on a baking sheet, and cook for about 4 hours or until done.
Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to two weeks or in the freezer for 4-6 months

Howdy, and welcome to my channel! A little bit about me, I'm a native Texan that loves to cook anything and everything. I've had some health issues over the years, and through that struggle I have learned a ton about nutrition and cooking for all kinds of diets such as Keto, Paleo, Specific Carbohydrate, Vegan, and simply gluten free/dairy free. I use almost exclusively organic products, and make as much of my staples as possible from scratch. I would love to share some of my knowledge with you and just spend some time cooking and chatting. I live on my own, so I tend to do quite a bit of meal prep and freezing of leftovers so I am prepared if I have a run of days that I'm too exhausted or just not feeling well enough to make myself something healthy to eat. I work full time, so I do not have a ton of time to spend on editing and making these super high quality videos, but I'm going to do my best for you. Please follow me on Instagram and join my Facebook group (links are below), and let me know if you want me to test any recipes with you or have recommendations for videos. Also, please share any pictures or comments if you make my recipe. I'd love to see how you like it!

Thank you - you did a very good showing and explaining the process. I have to get some drying racks for my Ninja Foodi and can't wait to start making these for my dog! I will also make some for me, adding some marinating sauce. Allie Jean is adorable!
Good to know
I did not know you could do this a Ninja food
Thank you for sharing this great video.
I’m glad you liked it! And there’s so many options for marinading the meat too if you make jerky for yourself and want some flavor
Lucky pup!
Nice recipe simple, the grocery store here sells a large bag of this exact chicken for 25$ my dogs loved it im going to try this thanks
Hope it goes well! My pup loves it
I have a 10 year old 5 pound toothless chihuahua and he loves them. He just sucks on the till they get softer. I don’t have a dehydrator yet but till
Oh I love it! My old dog was a chihuahua mix that lived to be 18 with only 1 tooth left in her head and she did the same.
sweet doggo!
Thanks for the video!
I’m glad you liked it!
Great video!!! Going to try this!!
Thanks for watching, and I hope you're having an awesome day
I am going to make this. Love the video. You made it easy to follow. Except, i dont have the mallet and long knife. Will have to find a solution or buy them.
you can use a rolling pin or frying pan to replace the mallet and any knife can work-a fillet knife may be easier-but as long as it's sharp you should be good. Good luck and happy cooking!
Good idea. I do have a rolling pin. Thanks.
Great tutorial. Would this work in a regular air fryer?
Making these for before hurricane Ian gets here 😭😭😭
Hey; did yours come out crunchy and brittle or somewhat chewy? I think we'd want chewy.
Thanks
What about beef jerky for my pet human
Will it last for two weeks on the counter and not in the refrigerator if kept in an air tight container in a place like Chennai or any humid and hot area
As long as it’s fully dry, I would think so...the only concern is that it is not salt cured like most jerky, but the moisture should be completely extracted after this process
Thank you very much for the revert , I would ask one more question if it's not too much... How would I know when it's gone bad ? It emits a smell ? Gets discoloured ? Or so on ?
Again thank you very much for taking out the time to respond
The biggest concern would be mold which would be obvious. Otherwise yes, be weary of it if it smells rancid.
@@gingerspice920 thank you very much, you've got a new subscriber 😀 all the very best ...
I’m happy to help! Let me know if there’s any recipes you’re interested in seeing 😊
nice👍 but stop hammering the plastic into the food 🙄🤦♂️
Do you not need to pre-cook the meat to kill all the bacteria?
No, the dehydration cooks it sufficiently. The typical jerky we eat as people is cured in salt to extend the shelf life and prevent bacterial or mold growth, but that cure is not safe for dogs in large quantities. That’s why you need to store this jerky in the refrigerator or freezer and be sure to use it quickly.
My oven broke and I only have my air fryer, any recommadations on how to cook it in that?
If your air fryer has a dehydration setting-then you can use that. But if not, they typically do not go to a low enough temperature to adequately dry it out all the way through before the outside hardens .
Is it just perspective or is that a really big chicken breast looks bigger than a half chicken 😂
lol these were shockingly large chicken breasts 🤣
