  • In this video I am reviewing the Sizzix Switch with embossing folders. Embossing folder was the craft tool that destroyed my gemini so I wanted to make sure that the Switch could handle them in case I have to return the machine. I am so happy to report that the machine was able to handle these folder without difficulties. I also was testing the different sandwiches I can use with the machine. I hope you like this video and it gave you some information that you might not have known.
    thank you for watching

    Thank you for the info. One thing I've learned is to slightly angle dies especially straight edges they feed much smoother.

    Wow, this is an excellent and very helpful review, thank you! Great that you showed different sandwich combinations, with and without the Magic Mat. Love that my investment in the original 6” and Plus manual machine accessories is not lost as they can all be used with the new Switch electric machine.

      The Magic Mat, is the exact same thing as fabric self-healing cutting mat that you can get at the $ store. I actually bought a Magic Mat & discovered that it’s the material.

    Wonderful! For the magic mat, it you put it on a tray and cover it with really hot water, not only will it be evenly flat, it will clean all the micro pieces of paper stucked on the surface

    I didn’t realize you could use all the other plates with this machine. I just purchased one and paid $399.99 without tax. It is unbelievable how the price has increased I know I’m in Canada so there is the exchange involved. Into have wrist problems so I’m looking forward t getting it to do my Xmas cards. Thank you for this video

    I didn't know about that magic mat until I watched your video! That sounds like a great alternative to the hard plastic plates and it's great that you can heat it to get it straight again! How does it compare in price to the regular Sizzix plates? Scrapbooking Made Simple has the white and black machines for about $169.00. I don't know if they have any left or not but they started selling them on Saturday. They are drop-shipping from the manufacturer. I bought one when I realized all the things it can do. I can hardly wait to get it in the mail and start using it! By they way, it can't break by putting in a sandwich that's too thick. The sensors will refuse to feed it before that happens and will just push it back at you. It's a brilliant design! I'm glad I bought this instead of the crank plus machine, as you can use a precision base plate in this but not the crank plus. That allows you to cut fabric even with wafer thin dies!

      Hi there, the magic mat cost $9.99 and about the same price as the sizzix cutting plates. But it is lasting longer. I use the magic mat with the die facing that mat and then use regular sizzix plate for top cutting mat. Thank you for watching.

    I have a Empress machine that I love, but I want this one because it will take my 3D embossing folders, and the Empress won’t. That being said; there are no Sizzix Switch to be had anywhere! Frustrating. Great video.

    I love that you showed all the different platforms, but should have made note that using non-sizzix bases and plates void the warranty. Also, wondering why you did not use the actual bases and plates for those of use with only those plates and base? Very good information. Thanks!

    • @scrapinmaniac
      @scrapinmaniac  Před 2 lety

      Thank you for that info. I did not use the plates the system came with because they are large and most of my dies are small. A small platform works best.

      I still love my switch and it’s the one I use the most. I use the big shot multi-purpose platform. It perform just as good as the Gemini and you can use all dies and embossing folders. I have the Gemini also and use that for my large dies because the Switch platform that came with it is huge. I have a special sandwich for the Gemini that I use for these large dies and are easy for me . If you looking at the Gemini, and you can only get one machine, I would get the switch. The Gemini can’t do any sizzix 3D folder or some spellbinders. And it does not do bigz dies. I have the chrome plate for the sizzix if I am having issue with intricate dies. However, good quality intricate dies cuts very well with the standard sandwich on the switch. I hope this answers the question. Thank you for watching!

    That happened to me with my manual die cut machine. I had a Big Kick and I was cutting a thin die and the whole sandwich got stuck. I couldn't get it out. But i did have it for a long time. Then i got the Big Shot Express, an electric die cutting machine. That broke in less than two years. So I got the Gemini Jr. But I can't do the Sizzix Bigz dies in the Gemini Jr. :-/

      So sorry to hear about the issue of plates getting stuck. These machines are not cheap. So far I had not issues with this machine new. I use the recommended sandwich and brought the precision plate for intricate dies and it cuts them very well.

      The sandwich would be just the base plate from the sizzix machine, then folder then clear cutting plate. Basically you take away a cutting plate.

    Anyone having real issues with plates warping or is it just an annoyance?

    • @scrapinmaniac
      @scrapinmaniac  Před rokem

      Plate warping is common to everyone because the sandwich that works for sizzix thinkers die may not work for crafter companion dies or anna griffin dies so we more pressure than needed and the acrylic plates warps. I like using self healing mats. They work better than just using the acrylic dies

    • @scrapinmaniac
      @scrapinmaniac  Před 2 lety

      I don’t need to force it. It goes in with just holding it and once the plates hit the sensors, it goes through.

    Be careful with that Magic Mat..my Switch was working great with it and then one day it ate the Magic Mat and almost destroyed my machine! Since that happened, the machine won't take anything but Sizzix plates. If I try to use the Magic Mat, it jams. Other people have been having this issue as well and have contacted Sizzix for warranty repair only to be told that use of the Magic Mat has voided the warranty!

    • @scrapinmaniac
      @scrapinmaniac  Před rokem

      Thank you for sharing! I was not aware of that issue. Now it makes me think that I should always have a sizzix plate on top of the rollers while keeping the magic mat down. Since sizzix plates are economical, it may better to just use their plates.

      @shannonfox617 Před rokem

      @@scrapinmaniac I was able to use my magic mat last night, but it absolutely has to be on the bottom with a Sizzix plate on top! I just place my dies down onto the magic mat since I can reshape that one easier than the acrylic plates
