    So pleased this has come out - I’ve been avoiding using my Big Shot because of my hands. My switch is coming next week😍 1 week later - all set up and it’s so simple to use! A lot of people are getting rid of their Bigz dies but I like them because they can cut so many layers at one time. I have the Fold-Away and was very disappointed because one side would not fold up. Made me so angry because I could not get anyone to help me with that from the company. I had given away my Big Kick so I kept the Fold-Away so I can use the Bigz dies. I have many other manual and electric machines. I would like to get this machine but I don't know if I can justify the cost. Thank you for the very informative video. I knew Sissix would finally get on the electric band wagon, it would just be a matter of time for them to do it and work out all the kinks from the other machines. 3D embossing folders can be a real problem and I think the Sissix machines handle them the best.

    • @sharoncurtis
      @sharoncurtis  Před rokem +1

      I flip and rotate my plates a lot, which helps minimise warping. I don't use a flattening method personally, I just keep using them, and when they get too bad I replace them. I know lots of crafters use boiling water and then put something heavy on top. for me, I feel life is too short! I just replace them when they get too bad.

    • @sharoncurtis
      @sharoncurtis  Před 11 měsíci

      There is a bit more pressure on the Switch, but it has been designed to have optimum pressure so it doesn’t warp the plates too fast. Make sure you flip and rotate them. I’ve never used the magic mat personally (but you do want to consider your warranty if using non Sizzix accessories as it might affect it).

    @NancyLynn Před 2 lety

    Hey Sharon, my first time watching you, by chance really as I myself just ordered the Switch but still waiting for it to arrive. May I ask, does the small platform that you demoed in this video, does it fit if you run it through in landscape position (in otherwords, the long edge of the platform goes thru first)? In my experience, the larger the clear plates are, the more they are apt to warp. I noticed this when I got my Sidekick manual die cutting machine. I use that one every chance I get (it only has 2.5 inch opening but perfect for sentiments and/or florals) and I've probably used it for over 4 years and the plates have not warped. So, the bigger the plates are means the faster they warp. However, as we all know, constantly flipping and/or rotating them prolongs their life. Oh, I absolutely love the size of your work area....that's a crafter's dream for sure! Thanks for the info, Sharon

    • @sharoncurtis
      @sharoncurtis  Před 2 lety

      Hi Nancy, yes you can put the smaller platform through either way, it fits both ways, and I agree, the smaller plates are better especially when you only need to use small dies - much quicker. I very rarely use the large plates as I don’t have that many bigger dies.

    Thank you very much for your tutorial! Question: You used a squar-ish sized charcoal base platform (it might have been about 6" square?). Its name? It sounded as though you called it a "chrome bass plate?" Also, I was not clear when that platform should be used. Thank you, in advance.

    • @sharoncurtis
      @sharoncurtis  Před 5 měsíci

      I do have another video on the accessories for the Sizzix machines that you might want to check out, and there is one specifically on the Chrome Precision Base plate. It's used for those really intricate, detailed dies that you'd normally have to run back and forth through the machine a few times to get to cut perfectly.

      Hi Linda, there are handles on the side (I think from memory I cover that in my unboxing video so you might want to watch that too). The machine is fairly heavy but easy enough to lift and move). No, leaving the plastic on the plates wouldn’t stop them marking, the plastic cover would soon get shredded and make a mess. It’s normal for the plates to mark, just keep flipping and rotating them, and place your dies in different areas to get the most out of them.

    I watched your video of how to use the Big Shot Switch Plus. It is not like my experience. I have done the same as you but when I hit the button for the platform, etc. to go through there is a loud grinding noise. When it comes out the other side, the cutting pads are bent, the top one more than the bottom. Why???

    You obviously know your product, so I feel that you will be able to answer this question. I have asked a ton of Sizzix reps and they just "fluff me off." They seem to think the sandwich for the Big Shot and Big Shot Plus is the same. Here's my question: I want to cut craft foam (to be used in shaker cards) using my Big Shot Plus. What is the order for making the sandwich? I will be using a thin metal die. Thank you.

    • @sharoncurtis
      @sharoncurtis  Před 10 měsíci

      The sandwich would be the same for the Big Shot and the Big Shot plus. For thin metal dies, it's base plate, thin die adapter, then two cutting plates. You can put your dies face down or face up. You will find mixed results with craft foam and thin metal dies - obviously they are meant just for card stock, so to cut something like foam, you need to make sure it's not too thick or too dense.

    Hi Sharon, can you tell me please if you are still happy with the sizzix big shot switch plus machine? I am a crafter in Australia and I can get one from our local Spotlight store, I was thinking seriously about getting it as I’ve just done a lot of die cutting with my normal big shot and its making my shoulder hurt, its an injury I sustained about 5 years ago. I was wondering why my shoulder was aching more recently and using the handle on my big shot has just made the penny drop! So glad I can use the normal plates too. Thank you for the very good review. Hi Sandy. Yes, I do, I tend to use my smaller, manual Big Shot day to day, and I keep the Switch under my desk to save space, but I've recently started using a lot of A4 sized dies from Carnation, so it's on and off my desk constantly!

    • @sharoncurtis

      Yes they will, most crafters like to use the same plate on top each time so that one stays fairly clear (stops your card getting so marked by any scratches).

    Pretty slick machine! Couple questions....why is it called the “switch plus”? Also, I noticed you did not angle the dies as you were feeding them into the machine....I’ve always seen people doing an angle (including Tim himself) that it puts less stress on the machine. Advice please….I’ve had my machine for some time but am finding the top plate is quite scarred from the back side of the die (I cut die face down). The scarring is transferring to the card stock. Very annoying. I place printer paper over the die to try to prevent it but the paper lasts only 2 passes and then it too transfers scarring to the card stock. It’s like there is too much pressure. And hints?

      If it's the movers and shapers that fit into a Bigz die then yes. The mouth opening for the Switch is the same as the standard and plus Big Shot, so you can use the plates, platforms, accessories that you use with the manual Big Shot's with the Switch.
